IMO, the most important thing that could happen with a campaign is for it to have an AMAZING story. I mean...freaking splurge on it. Pay Day mixed Bioshock or Mass Effect...
MWO is already phenomenally fun...I'm sure there's lots of metadata that could inform AI programmers to have enemies that "roll damage," pop-tart, NARC-then-rain, stay grouped or wander too loosely, etc. so enemy would act "realistically." HUGE maps could be laid out

I personally don't understand the thrill of "walk to this spot, shoot at that guy who will be walking up in 10 secs". It makes me think of the Sega CD interactive movie games from the 90s. I am not going to say it is wrong for people to like it, I personally really just don't understand the appeal.
As far as it providing a story line. I would feel better about watching a series of short cinematic trailers released than knowing they had to spend a HUGE amount of time and resources for me to interact with it only to be completed and forgotten about after a few short hours.

After completing this mission where you're hired by the DCMS to put down some "local rebels" to stop "arms dealing", you are presented with a news report from a local news agency about you, the lone mercenary 'Mech, that disregarded civilian lives and fired on a corporate building, killing a security guard and janitor before going on to engage and kill the freedom fighters that responded to your presence. The mission takes 10 minutes. The flavor text is like, 5 paragraphs, but it tells a better and more memorable story than 90% of MW:O drops.
Nobody remembers 12v12 team deathmatches. They remember stories, narratives. They remember the Trials on Alshain in Ghost Bear Legacy. They remember this guy.

Isn't that what we do in PvP right now. We Walk to Delta7 and engage the bad guy there. What is missing is a reason for me shooting you. I have been shooting you since Closed Beta. I have shot you with lasers, I have shot you with Missiles, I even shot you with ballistics and what did I get for all that shooting? Nothing. I wand a reason to shoot you besides the sadistic thrill of crushing you.

<Shrug> I'd never really played anything seriously PvP before this game. That's a huge part of its appeal for me. Every time I start a single-player game now, I just feel lonely. Everybody has their thing.

If you want SP, why?
I want single player but like you said don't wast time (at this point) trying to do it
as to why
I played my first PC game in 1980 in AF Tech school so I have been around PC based games for along time
99 % of the time I played the games at the beginner level
this is my first on line game and I always pictured on line games as a place where gaming experts beat up on newbies that happened to wander into there game
I bought two games that I have never played because they turned out you need to sign up on steam and what not
Anyway it turns out I was right about on line games it is in fact worse than I thought
With an old style store bought game the game is the game you can’t go crying on some forum to get them to change this or that
The computer controls this game to me it’s obvious
I am not complaining I am still having fun but I prefer a game I buy in a store no nerfs no ego's no one calling me names in chat

I can see that. Depends on the game though, for me. Battlefield or CoD? Pass...just gimme the multiplayer. But single player is where the best stories can be meticulously crafted for epic moments and characters.
Like I said, gamplay is solid...if they could give you a bunch of crazy good characters, contracts/missions you choose between which unfold the plot differently depending on your performance and choices...AND make it 4-player coop with challenging AI?
That would be dope.

Battletech games at the base on Video support were PVE.
And it worked pretty well.
Why not here too?

You obviously didn't listen very well then or missed the details. Russ stated this would NOT even be in the think tank until after CW was finished and more then likely not even until 2015. So lets all just relax!
Not to mention this kills two birds with one stone....we get a STORY mode and any new players have a AI difficulty then can set until they become familiar with the game and its controls. Serves as story and training mode. Also MORE DIVERSITY in our game is never a bad thing. Be great for those nights when the Internet is out/slow/down or when they servers are offline and you forgot to DL Test Server. Tons of viable options and reason this can and should happen after CW is 100% finished and BUG FREE!
I listened to it just fine. Which is why I said I know it is a long way off. My last sentence of what you quoted is where development should focus to keep the game alive. No one plays SP campaigns more then once typically maybe twice on a harder difficulty. The only way the game can have staying power is a robust MMO experience. Heck most AAA titles have to put in incentive's to even play the SP. I stopped playing them long ago to skip to the Multi-player part. Only reason I played BF co=op and SP campaign was for the unlocks.
You make a great point for SP being a tutorial and a way for new players to get acclimated to the game controls because as it is now players get brought into the game on the highest of difficulties.

And to address old man Josephs buzz word he keeps throwing out there: We get it your old (I am not to far behind you I am sure) but epeen has nothing to do with why MP should be the main focus of development for me at least and I am sure others. MWO MP is the hardest level of the game. It is where I get my ass handed to me on a daily basis to make me realize there are situations I cannot always win no matter how well I do. It challenges me and tests me to get better more so than some robotic AI ever could.
Even normal or easy level in MWO SP would be hard for people, believe that. I played my fair share of SP titles like Half-life and loved them but they didn't have replay value once they were beat and you got through the story. Now the mods of Half-life MP games that are still played to this day are where it was at for me. I played some MW games that had no good MP during those times and I played Counter-strike and other games around those times that had fun MP games that were far and away more developed than MW games could come up with. Now the MWO that we have now actually has a fun and compelling FPS MP experience. It should be the bread and butter for longevity. The only thing that matters to me is a good gameplay experience. No fluff. no cut scenes, no drawn out storyline where I fight it out with AI. Good mech on mech crime fighting my peers for the IS is where it is at for me. I would rather a R&R, salvage system, trading system, collisions system, destructible environment, etc. etc. be put in before we see a SP part of the game.
It appears they developed the game backwards for a lot of people though.

I'm not a big PVP person, never got into UT/Quake/battlefiled... and CoD up and turned to **** when they went all 'l33t PVP skillz'...
Truth is, I find most 'l33t PVP skillz' players are little better than a decent AI in a single player, they get predicable with their behaviours, even more so if you start to see the same names over and over. For example, when I drop as a PUG I often get tagged in a bracket with three or four names I've either played with, or against, and they always have the same mechs, so I know how they like to play, and how to kill them quickly and efficiently, and the same can be said for me, anyone that knows me, knows how I like to run my Timber Wolf.
When all is said and done, I love to see something with a story to it, they have the basics for it already in the works with CW, and I'm no game DEV but it can't be that hard to write a script with several acts (read three to four) that last three to four hours each, perhaps contain 5 or 10 missions per act. Even better would be a branching story, that if you win W battle it opens up X or Y mission, lose W battle get mission Z, Being realistic though, that would take a lot of effort, time and resources then I'm sure PGI would be able to devote to it after CW is done.

If I want to interact with people, I have friends in the real world that I can hang out with. But sometimes I want a good story, and the freedom to play how I want without needing to deal with boring meta builds, and morons in chat complaining about how it was their team's fault they died 30 seconds in. Give me single player any day.
