There's the Merlin but it doesn't excite. Aside from nostalgia, why choose the Rifleman over the Lancelot or Anvil?

Cause of the Ballistics - the Lancelot is just another pure energy boat - the Anvil is well a Lancelot with a face lift - that doesn't has hardpoint inflation

- Merlin isn't it a 3005 Mech? It got all the stuff - ballistic, missiles, energy weapons - a smaller jumpcapable orion - or a heavy shadow hawk

Anyhow the 60t weight class is - meh - you will always have the mobility of heavys and the armor and fire power of mediums - and always the 55t Mechs will be more effective

Hmm the Bushwhacker would be mediocre at best. :/ I hope ppl don't go with nostalgia so hard they forget how sucky it is to roll in a weak mech. I'd rather get the Assassin, Lynx, Rajin or even the Vulcan.

As far as heavies, I'm hoping ppl will choose quality. The Lancelot or Anvil would be a great choice.

Bushwacker mediocre? Why? it would have about 8 mixed hardpoints and could even mount dual gauss rifles. It's the IS mini-Ebon Jaguar.

And nostalgia is one of the key factors people buy a mech, so it is THE reason.
Rifleman needs to be in the game, like all the Macross designs. This would put to an end the greatest upset in the Battletech history. It is a big deal, not only for MWO, but for any Battletech title in the future.

This was specially true when we had 3/3/3/3, where people min/maxed their mechs. With the new tonnage-based system, things might get different (and the class lower tonnage mechs will be more useful).

Aye the tonnage based system was bad for several Mechs.
While a fast heavy/assault was a good choice in 3333 - its a liability in a tonnage based system

This is not exactly the fault of PGI - ok they should have known this fact.

I think the best example for this: Gargoyle vs TimberWolf:

Consider PGI allows OmniMechs to have ES and to limit the number of fixed Heatsinks:
it still:
TimberGod: 12t FF ES 10 DHS and 32.5t modul space
vs
Garagmel 11t FF ES 10 DHS and 31.5t modul space

so considering those additional "structure points" of the gargoyle equal towards the additional ton of armor for the Timber - they are equal.... that is bad bad bad - because the Gargoyle has 5t more - it should not be equal it have to be better.

So the same happens with 55t vs 60t
DRG-1N - 22t available
WVR-6K - 20.5t available
looks fair? right? 5t more weight for 1.5t more loadout

but say we want to increase speed?
WVR-6K 17t
vs
DRG-1N 16.5t

This calculation is nothing new and its a pity PGI did nothing to fix it - you have to consider that the heavier chassis is bigger and you have the same internal crits available.

So for maximum vanilla for the IS - the new chassis have to be 35, 55t 75t and 85-90t (depends if you want it jump capable)

To be fair, the Lancelot has two in-timeline variants that carry a ballistic/energy mix: the LNC25-03 & the LNC25-05.

Basically, the Lancelot's main advantage over the Rifleman is that most of the former's variants start with a high-rating Engine (XL 360 for the 01, 01X, and 05; XL 300 for the 03; STD 240 for the 02), which means that most variants would be at or near maximum Engine rating (400) as their limits.
In other words, it's a metagaming issue.

I may have been harsh with my judgement of the Bush but honestly it wouldn't have the tonnage to seriously do dual gauss.

I guess nostalgia is fine... I just wish it didn't mean getting a mediocre mech (Black Knight anyone?) Nostalgia will probably get us the Champion too.

Yea, I'd love to get the Champion. I know it isn't anything too special (that nostalgia creeping in), but it would be fun to play (in a nostalgic sort of way :) ).

If there was one creative license though, please make it reverse-knee joint. Maybe that distracts from what makes a Champion a Champion, but it would look weird as an oversize Jenner.

Maybe do a leg similar to the Crab. That would be cool I think.

Can we not mess with the Champion's legs? They're fine as-is (as forward-knee/"man-walker" legs). ;)

Aw, i was hoping for an Archer, i would by that. but the Jagermech 1.0 Rifleman just looks so sexy, i just might break out my wallet. (but let me see the info page on variants and hero first)

Really, those gun arm assemblies look menacing!

And we have another machine to look forward to in Battletech!

Wow! It has shield arms! That's how it becomes different from the Jäger. Pretty sneaky, Alex. :)

Looks like they took some influence from the Lancelot but gave it beefy arms. I'd venture the shield arms will differentiate it somewhat.

Wonder which unseen will be next, I think it's between the Phoenix Hawk & Archer.

It would be a big surprise if PGI released the hero actually heavier.
