I've been toying with the Spider for lets say two hours. Wow. I'm a fan of jump jets but have only used them on cats and phracts, no jenners or ravens. I can't bring myself to pilot mechs that resemble poultry. Now I loaded up anywhere from 6 to 12 jump jets (that's right 12!) on this anorexic 30 tonner to see what it can do. Wow. Swapped out the standard 240 engine with some 200, 240, and 255 XL's that have just been lying around the shop collecting dust originally bought for some crazy cataphract experiments (like 3 gauss phractenstein). Speed is anywhere from sober 108 kph (like the speed of my Dragons... yawn) to a brisk Hawken-esque tempo 137 kph with no tweaks. I decided to level them up honestly the skill chain rather than use my GXP to max them right away. I want to learn to play them like my other mechs. I'm also buying the D variant last and avoiding ECM at first. I have it laying around the garage from a Cicada 3M that underwelmed me last month. Honestly, I'm not worthy of piloting the ECM spider until I learn how to pilot the spider. The mech really does fly. The K with 4 machine guns feels less like a mech and more like a WW1 biplane swooping down on mechs Red Baron style and raining machine gun... something other than death.

Can the Spider do any real damage to anyone except maybe another spider or commando? Who cares. Does it explode like a firework finale on July 4th high in the sky for everyone to witness from the second streak SRM impending hit? Yes. Yes it does.

But here is the point of this thread. I'd like to keep a log of superhuman, physics and logic defying feats that this lightweight can do that is as mindboggling as it is useless to the rest of your team.

Thank you.

Hats off for you. How does those MG feel like damge wise? Are you able to hurt your targets?

I just watched someone jump over a hunchie and head shot (or something) the hunchie and it went boom. It was QUITE impressive.

Just for fun I jumped onto the radar dish on forest colony. The mech made the jump with ease.

Nice view over the whole map, from up there. Good cover too (except from LRMs).

Will look out for other high places to jump up to.

**** one out with ferro/endo/dhs and a pair of MPL. Then max the armor, go 255xl and collect tears. :D The damn thing can fire all day long.

I was being chased by a Jenner at max speed, XL255. I jumped, turned all the way around in the air, shot the jenner while still jumping and moving faster then him, while going.. Backwards. Landed, hit the throttle, shot right past him and into the clear.

I <3 my Spider.

I'm having a blast with my 5V, 250xl, 12 JJ, 2 mpl and BAP with the sensor range mk II, 360 target and target ID modules. I'll have try that radar dish trick if I ever get Forest :D Wonder if the 5D can get that high..ECM+BAP+sensor range mod = spotter from HELL!

Yeah the 4 ballistic 1 energy spider is fun but useless.

The mech simply cant load anything but machine guns. You can't even put a single AC2 since you dont have tonnage to carry ammo to use it to fight.

I put 4 MGs and 1 ER large laser and chased a commando for 2 minutes firing MG's and ERLL into his back. I think he noticed me after a while, turned around and 1-shot triple SSRM'd me down.

heeheee...

Jedi moves so far:

1. It can literally run up a sheer cliff in forest colony water with a slight incline off 90 degree wall (say 75 degree incline) with aid of its jets. It looks like its doing a parkour wall run.

2. It can hop along roof tops along entire map in frozen city and river city without ever touching the ground like Assassin's Creed or them ninjas from Japanese anime.

3. It can scale the top of just about any skyscraper, mountain, and crane in the game usually without needing to climb ledges as stepping stones.

4. It can ascend full vertical climb from top of a skyscraper and come crashing down to the ground without using its jets to slow descent which means a free fall of roughly double skyscraper height and sustain standard damage to its legs. Yes you sustain damage to your legs, but you just did a free fall of over 100 stories to you and your 30 ton hunk of steel. By all laws of physics, you and your mech should resemble a cat thrown off that height yet you come out almost unscathed and hauling off breaking the netcode barrier.

5. You can outrun the slow LRM's and bolt out of their 1000m reach like the SR71 Blackbird or Clint Eastwood's Firefox with cruise missiles burning out behind them. You need a distance of at least 500 meters between you and the LRM boat. As he fires you sprint in opposite directions and watch the missiles detonate outside of their 1000m range. If you're feeling them catch up on you, jump in the air at full speed as they are coming down in their arc to give you a bit of an edge.

6. Why even bother outrunning the missiles when you can just dodge them like a Shaolin monk catching arrows out of the air? And I don't mean ducking behind cover as they approach. A slow Atlas shmo can do that. I'm talking dodge guided missiles headed straight at you and you're too cool to even flinch and run. You stand on top of a tall building so that the missiles already don't have much room to climb above your targeted elevation. You have to time it right. Not too soon, not too late. Right before the missiles start their descent to your doom, you do a vertical leap standing still and watch the guided smart missiles pass right under your legs and proceed to fall behind you. Jump too soon and the LRM's will adjust their flight path resulting in a spectacular firework explosion high in the sky for everyone's amusement (especially beautiful on river city night map if everyone wasn't lame and watching it in heat vision mode). Jump too late and you don't gain altitude quickly enough, causing the missiles to hit your legs instead of your center. But get the tempo right, and you are truly jedi. You can stand there if you wish and let the LRM boat fire salvo after salvo without taking a single hit. Powering down briefly as soon as he fires might help, but I haven't tried this yet.

And this is all without ECM magic or lagshield magic. With powers like these, do you really need to deal any damage?

I got a DFA earlier today. Granted it was against another spider that was all red on internal pretty much everywhere, but still....

It was on Frozen City near the wreckage, right by the hole in the middle. I was running from the said Jenner from my first trick, I think he was making for the whole. I clipped him as I was doing some jump running and blew him into little pieces. I saw the exlposion and thought I died, then realized I was still running.

DFA on the first game, sexy... Sexy indeed.

So what you're saying is that you executed a move where you jump and spin in the air as an evasive maneuver to gunfire return fire on the offending mech at the 180 degree point of your spin and continue on to finish a 360 degree spin like Lebron James taking it to the basket. Cool!

Not quiet. I jumped over a ridge on Frozen city, did a 180 in the air, shot my follower while still in the air, cut the jets then hit the ground and shot past him going the other way.

Maverick: "I saw the bogie close up for Goose to snap that photo because we were inverted."

Neo: "Are you saying that I can dodge bullets?"
Morpheus: "No Neo. What I'm saying is if you're the One, you won't have to."
(Speaking of which your Spider can easily recreate Neo's impossible leap of faith from one skyscraper to another as a tutorial.)

Can you mount AMS to protect you from LRM's? Yes. Can you mount ECM to prevent LRM locks? Yes. Do you need to resort to such elementary and wasteful tactics to dodge missiles? No. That being said, it never hurts to mount ECM.

I've been jumping onto that dish for months and it provides awesome cover against all weapons. I even used to mount an ER Large Laser on the Jenner's Left arm and snipe from up there.

It's a fun mech, but is it just me or is it prone to sustain leg damage from short jumps? even when just running, my legs glow from impact damage if I go over a shallow depression.

So you completely reversed course as you hit the ground and ducked under the befuddled Jenner. Classic misdirection and reversal of momentum like Aikido. Kudos to outfaking a Jenner.

Give the sucker a module that lets it carry a Vibrosword (lightsabers in battletech) and maybe you've got a niche for it.

The thing can jump sure, but it's not a fighter.
