I have a nvidia 550ti which has 1gb ddr5 bandwidth and it runs MWO at highest settings, and it's only costs aroung $150

The GTX 660 Ti is a great budget card. I have a 560 Ti and I have no issues running the game on medium settings.

The one in the link is a bit over $300, but I am sure they can be found for under $300 on other sites.

I have a Radeon 7770 and the game looks awesome. But this engine is optimized for NVidia cards.

You can run MWO on its highest settings with some AA @ 1920X1080 with an AMD 7870 or Nvidia 660 , or better.

But if you want to be safe I'd go for a Radeon 7950 or Nvidia 660TI. Personally I like the Radeon more due to the 3gb of memoy and it being just as fast and costing the same (well depending on rebates and who you buy it from). But if this game ever incorperates Nvidia PhysX then that would be the better card.(unless you didn't care about PhysX which I don't but to each his own)

But you need to make sure whatever card you buy, your PSU can handle the TDP of the card you purchase. You also need to make sure that whatever video card you choose will not be held back by a slow CPU (if you have one. You posted no system specifications, which is also why I mentioned the power supply being able to handle whatever card you choose)

Also memory bandwith is not something to base your decision on when buying a video card. Its completely irrelevant if a video card has a 384bit memory bus but a GPU core that only cranks out 10FPS. You need to be looking at overall performance.

(But my laptop has an OC'd 460M which runs this game like a champ you may want to look at reinstalling the game before buying a new video card)

This alone is not a good reason to get a new video card. If your performance was okay before, and then dropped, it may be unrelated to your video card. I would encourage the following steps first:

- Delete the Shaders folder in the MWO install directory, and let MWO re-create it the next time you play
- Update your drivers to the latest version, making sure to do a clean install (one that wipes the old drivers / settings out first, to avoid problems)
- If the above two don't fix it, try uninstalling MWO completely, deleting the install folder for it, and then installing again

I have had problems after previous patches which required one or more of the steps above, and it would be good to exhaust all of these no-cost options before investing in hardware.

Now if you do want to get a video card, given your price range I would highly recommend the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 or 660 Ti. I have the 660 Ti and love it! As others have noted, though, make sure that your power supply can handle the wattage and has the right power plugs... and also make sure there isn't something else bottlenecking your system (a slower CPU, for example).

They raised the graphics in the game, and soon will raise them again as we're still on DirectX 9.

Warning on both vids... They're kinda loud. These were recorded during NDA but not released until very recently. Talk about a world of difference in graphics. Can't wait for DX11 support to be put back in.

Frozen City, DirectX 11 July 2012. Not much action, look at that beautiful map. Note: At the time I did not know anything about this map. Worse... Even today, I had to really think to figure out where I was because it looks so different... My twin Radeon HD 6870s which play the game on max settings now, could barely do High at the time. Hence the video lag. Not much action. Enjoy the map.

Forest Colony, DirectX 11, July 2012. Jenner kills two Atlas with flamers. One afk, one fighting. Note: All mechs had standard engines, XLs didn't exist yet. Nor did any pilot trees (so everything was much more fair).

Far as cards, most of the people telling me about issues (I've been issue free) are Radeon Hd 7970s, Nvidia 680 and 660ti users. I'm told the 7970s fixed it with an update. 660tis fixed with an update. The two people with 680s however complain about not being able to play the game at all. Food for thought.

660 is a good choice for your budget, I'm using the 660M (laptop) and get a reasonably steady 40-50fps on high, much higher if I drop to medium.. Haven't really experienced much of a drop in frame rates after the new patch, but am getting a lot of other bugs - kaleidescope, blackscreen etc, hopefully these are just temporary though, and for the price I've been extremely happy with the 660M... (performance on other games - PS2 on ultra 50fps+, SC2 ultta 80fps++, path of exile maxed out never drops below 60fps, etc)

I just got a Gigabyte GTX 660 from newegg, and I love it. No drop in frame rate at all so far anywhere.

I have the chance of a nvidia gtx 550 ti for a very cheap price. My previous card (a 9800gt) has died :D

Will a gtx 550 ti run mwo (i have phenom quad core 2,4 ghz and 4 gb ddr2 ram) at low settings? I am not looking for anything more thatn 30 fps at low setting for the mean time.

Sapphire 7870XT is best bang for buck gaming card out atm.

Just make sure ur not trying to pair it up with a old Intel Core2Duo/Quad ,or any AMD other than the new FX series.

Sorry but 660TI is over priced garbage. You can a 7950 for the same price. A 7950 is equal if not even superior to a GTX670...A 7870 is equal to a GTX660TI and cheaper too.
Nvidia has dropped the ball. AMD is detroying them with their new drivers.
EDIT: Dont listen to the people saying get a 660/660TI they are misinformed hardware noobs. Only get a 660 if it is cheaper than AMD's equivelant (Not happening).

I have a HD7850. I overclocked it to near HD7870 level. Its doable from AMD software, its literally 3 clicks and stays that way every on startup.

It cost $170. It outperforms a GTX580, eats ~100watts less. Feels good man.

The HD7870 is overclockable for the same amount. Even at stock it wipes the floor with the 660TI and is alot cheaper. Also no yellow screen or 4fps issues.

The HD7870 is different from the HD7870XT(LE).

The XT (LE) version of the 7870 is a Tahiti GPU with 1536 cores rather than the 1280 cores of the original.

While a 7850 may OC to 7870 performance, a 7870XT is not a 7870

I can't comment on the CPU but that graphics card should be fine. I run a GTX 560TI - only a small step beyond the 550TI, and I typically get 45-55 fps at 1900 x 1080 with all graphics settings maximised apart from motion blur which I hate. You should be good to go.

Not sure if anyone asked yet or not but what is your operating system? In the forums it reads they are having lagging issues with windows 7 users. I had no issues till the jagermech patch and now since then almost every match it lags a bit. Unbearable yes but not every match does this. If you want to save even more money wait for the next patch to see if they fix this issue. I really hope they do alot of people are running into this issue
