I personally don't think hacking is rampant as some people say but it is becoming more suspicious.

[Redacted] What can be done?

If you see somebody that you think is using a hack, then please file a support ticket with PGI.

Report suspicious behavior, but be advised that some people are just good at getting head shots. And if you drive a catapult, it was never an aimbot, you have a huge head.

If someone feels the need to use Aimbot and pay whatever per month they are charging then they are a very sad lot of people.

I mean with a good mouse and modding your User.cfg you can get head shots so freaking easy.

I mean come on its not super fast paced so you dont need rubberbanding aimbot. Seriously an aimbotter in the game that pays the fee really really has to be such a lonely loser thats on the verge of ending themselves to even think about it. Or just be that effing stupid.

I got curious and did a google search for Mechwarrior online aimhacks and boom first result is a download page. What can be done?

I agree completely. They need to put in an antihack program. Hire or asign a couple people whose job is to look up hacks and update the antihack software accordingly.

What can be done by us the players? not much really.I reported someone a few months ago for hacking. We played a few games together and he told me about the things the hack could do,and showed it to me in action.I submitted the report with screen shots of the conversations and hacking in action. That player is still playing the game to this day.Far as I can, tell PGI doesn't care.
It's not really rampant enough *yet* to severely impact the game overall I don't think.Every online game has it's fair share of lousy hackers.MWO is no different.

Stuff like this can be and probably is monitored statistically. There are statistical anomalies that will pop up when people are using these kinds of programs that a natural, unaided player would not have.

and if you ever happen to spectate someone using a bot you will be like "wtf" at the strange behavior.

I have never seen anyone "hacking" ,personally, in almost 3000 drops played. However with 5000+ kills and a 6.5+ k/d i have been accused of "hacking" quite a bit. Perhaps you should refocus your efforts into improving your game play rather than googling for cheat sites.

What kind of changes would you recommend? And why are we even allowed to change those settings?

Theres 1 "legit" Hack that I know of for MWO, only cause the place that does it has a well known rep. All the other ones are most likely just around to steal your account, like most hacks... Though for the guy saying to hire anti-hack people... Its not quite as simple as you make it out to be. Since MWO really does not lend itself well to hacking, there is not many ways to hack it. Though the ones that they are able to do, are the hardest ones to detect by software means. That is, unless they go intrusive and monitor your computer remotely, which I'm sure no one is going to consent to.

Plus I hope no one recommends they get Punk buster... that pile of crap needs to die already.... Its so good, that PB itself left a backdoor in to their system wide open for years, till one guy decided he wanted to have fun with it.

We are permitted to modify the user.cfg file to make up for the fact that certain features that should be under game options aren't in yet. Mouse sensitivity is one, you can aim better if your reticle moves more slowly (you could also just turn down your DPI if you have a gaming mouse).

The other one people change a lot is FoV, just for immersion's sake. Both of these are thing that should eventually have a slider in the game options.

The only cheat I have noticed is people messing with their connection to give themselves a lag shield. This is a problem in many games and is a tricky one to stop IIRC.

Not punk buster but a program like it yes.

I was one of those people for Day of Defeat. Staying in the know of the hacks, running VAC, recording demos while spectating suspicious people and then playing back the demo with the hack running to see if he was being guided by the hack. It's certainly not hard. There was a team of us and we each did our own viewing of multiple recordings after multiple reports, gave our own vote, and the majority of the votes won.

People intentionally did what they could to avoid detection. Always getting the latest that would go unnoticed by VAC (which we were aware of and used for our demos), using them as a guide and not using them to play the game on their behalf. My favorites were the wall hacks. Stupid players would actually track the enemy through the wall and shoot the moment the enemy came around the corner. Smarter (but still stupid) players would simply aim at the corner and wait for the enemy to come around it. Smarter still didn't bother with that. They used the intel to go where they knew the enemy wasn't, get the jump on the enemy from behind, etc. but never camped to take people out as they rounded corners.

Of course when we switched to using VAC, we had some regulars complain so hard...sure enough, VAC picked them up. They screamed false positive until we recorded demos of them and it was suspicious enough to think that it wasn't false positives after all.

You would be amazed at how many we would pick up for hacking on a monthly bases. Permabanning a dozen or two accounts per month. I'm sure some were the same people just coming back on new accounts and a new IP (we often banned both the account and IP).

But then think of this game. No anti hack program like VAC or Punkbuster. What we see spectating isn't accurate to what the person being specated sees (this was obvious with lag shield where they had to lead while we actually saw where the light was). No demos can be recorded and then played back within the game client.

Open invitation in my opinion.

As for the lag shield issue. Seen that one today as well. An ecm commando tried to circle me so I full reversed and turned. This, quite literally, put the commando in front of me and I didn't even have to turn my torso at all. His angular velocity was completely nulified by my back turning. Yet, despite every single laser connecting on my screen, no hit registered. My crosshairs did not turn red. This wasn't an aim thing other than lag shield because I had cancelled his circling completely.

I certainly hope state rewind fixes that one. That way, those shots would've ripped him apart.

Thank you.
Changing the FoV is usually used to gain an advantage in other fps. I am not sure if we need to change that at all.

They will have trouble with rubber-banding and lag shield on everyone else though.
