Meaning, person who will win doesn't necessarily mean they are top player. Just means they are decent player who can put in ton of time sink to gather the aggreggiate score points.
For example, if I had siblings or friends who play MWO we could take turns on a same account droppign much as possible to rake the points in.

Play more. That's the solution. And you get 50% more space bucks from doing it in a hero or founder.

You make some very good points here. In theory players might be able to get solo sync-drops to work and those who choose mechs they did not play during the initial Elo tracking period would be under-rated and would get easier matches to start.
I guess the purpose of this competition is a test of the Elo matchmakig system though it might be more effective if a solo and group competition were running at the same time to get the largest total number of players involved.

Tournaments are great, and I'm sure there will be a good amount of diversity to them over time. And obviously PGI can run whatever they want. But a tournament in which one of the primary--indeed, necessary--factors is my ability to timesink an entire weekend into the game? That does not particularly excite me, even if I had the time to invest and the desire to do so.
Nonetheless, GLHF for those who do.

In theory all the ECM lights should end up in higher difficulty matches. Non ECM lights that were easy kills over the last few weeks will have an Elo score lower than the player skill.
I think this competition will be decided by the most under-rated players who are able to spend the most time in game.

I hope it is not a sum total but instead a fancy system that creates an average. They say they will "weigh" a variety of things.
I hope it is a sum total because that would prevent a player that played one match from winning
