This will not end well!

Predictions:

We will see A LOT of ALT+F4'ing, exploiting and massive sync dropping.

Light = Raven-3L
Medium = Yen-Lo-Wang
Heavy = Cataphract-3D (see poptart)
Assault = Atlas D-DC

The swami predicts top 3 lights..

1. a raven 3L
2. a raven 3L
3. a raven 3L

Anyone wanna take a poke at predicting any other classes?

Also no cheating from me, 100% legit.

It just sucks cause it starts tomorrow at 1:00pm for me and I have to be to work at 2... which especially sucks cause I have lots of errands to run in the morning and am going to be dog tired. Hopefully I'll be able to get in some good games Saturday before work and plenty on Sunday.

I think the Trebuchet has more potential than the Wang. And probably the splatcat for Heavies.

How about throwing in some free Hero Mechs as rewards?

Opted in just for the heck of it and will be looking for my name somewhere at the bottom .... if the list extends that long. Also because of this ->

This is somewhat of a dry run. We're testing out a bunch of systems, getting ready for stats in March, and seeing how many people are interested. Expect these events to continue and get bigger with support from the community!

Will be interesting to see who ends up at the top though.

Lets see, 9 'winners' and thousands of 'losers'. Like the Olympics, only the best get rewarded. Since I am not an Olympian (disabled vet) nor an Elite high kdr Mechwarrior I certainly do not belong in this 'glorious contest'. I can read about it later in the forums. Thanks guys.

Ok... in order for me to participate in this event. PGI will have to have a few things fixed. Get rid of the HACKERS!!!!. Make it so if a person ALT+F4's they still get the stats from the game. I hate those guys and that's before this contest started. What are you inflating, just your ego, KD means nothing yet. Sync dropping will be a huge issue... having up to 16 people dropping at the same time, some to win and some to lose to inflate the other teams stats. I fear that this will be won by the hackers. These are the reasons why i will not be joining in this silly contest for some silly little banner... hell make it worth 1k MC and you will have everyone and there dog join in. But PGI doesn't wanna lose any money by giving out real prizes... just so you know, War Thunder just had a tourney in there Beta and the winner got 100k GE, if you don't know what GE are... they are MC in MWO. you have to spend real money to get it and they are giving out 100k of them to the winners.

This is a good move by the devs to seed/test the Elo system. Maybe they'll be getting some balance information as well by comparing success/stats of the founders mechs vs optimized builds of the same chassis/weight class.

Look like it's gonna be fun.

Don't know how many matches I'll be able to play but I'm curious to see how I'll compare to the other Med pilots.

The Choice: A pretty banner with no discernable impact (woo-hoo?, I guess - it's like owning a shiny Rolls Royce that doesn't run) vs. Responsible Gaming

The Issue: From the original announcement: "For the Light, Medium, Heavy, and Assault Champion challenges we are using an aggregate score that weighs Win/Loss Ratio, Kills, Kill Assists, Capture Assists, Spotting Assists, and Games Played." (emphasis mine)

and also,

"1st tie breaker goes to the player with the most matches".

Doing it this way is automatically cutting off a massive population of players: those who have inconvenient things like jobs; families to support; a healthy set of other interests (e,g, female companionship or motorcycles or Terry Pratchett novels or what-have-you); you know, gamers with lives. I am in no way saying that if you as a player have the time and the responsibility-free lifestyle option of being a dependent on someone else's tax returns that you shouldn't spend every waking hour having fun playing MWO, because I can say without hesitation that I would have done the same (interstitial PSA: kids: don't spend every waking hour playing video games, even though it's awesome).

But I AM saying that to give preferential treatment to those players who can forsake everything else for the sake of playing this game is to denigrate a substantial portion of your paying player base.

Of considerable importance for the Piranha Games executives to consider, perhaps, is the concept that it is precisely these sorts of players who play regularly, but less frequently (i.e. those who have jobs and therefore disposable income, if not necessarily disposable time) who are most apt to give you cold hard cash for the privilege of playing your game.

As it stands now, you have set up the rules for this contest in such a way that someone could be a serious butt-kicker in every single match she plays, but still not be recognized for thoze mad skillz because she can only play a tenth of the number of matches that another player can.

I understand you want to promote playing your game (duh!). I also state without fear of contradiction that you have good reason to do so because it's a great f-ing game. But what you're saying with these rules is, as machine puts it, it's "a who has the most free time contest".
