this idea is dumb for several reasons.

1. it is basically saying **** off to any player outside the us with much higher ping rates, especially places like australia.

2. the game is too umbalanced to give accurate skill ratings

3. you will most likely see the top 100 pilots in the light class all pilotting raven 3ls exclusively

i have not been in a game all weekend without at least 1 raven 3l, some games contain 3 or more, enough is enough

oh did i mention the fact that not everybody is a jobless, girlfriendless loser who doesnt have a house to keep and has 24/24 hours to sit on their fat arses playing mwo while their mum makes them snacks.
a bit like this...

pgi.. sort... it.... out...

the last thing the games needs is a totally pointless unbalanced competition during beta phase (that says it all really, you cant have a fair contest in an unfinshed game) when you could be spending that time getting *COMMUNITY WARFARE finished

And if the score is based of the match score, it'll be whoever brought the most LRM's for 72 hours.

Like many others, I'm disappointed with the weighting that number of games played seems to have been given for the scoring. Being in the UK, I played about 30 matches last night after it opened (at 6pm over here.) I was somewhere between 35th and 18th on the Med leaderboard. Then, being human, I needed some sleep.

Got up this morning to find I'm 135th on the Med, and the top players on the board have 4 times the number of games I've played. So if I want any shot at the top 25, I'm playing catch-up from now on. I'll also lose the final 8 hours or so due to time zones (midnight to 8am over here, and I have a job.)

The way it's going, the top players are probably going to have played more matches this weekend than I have in the last month.

It's fair enough if what PGI want to do with tournaments is reward the real hardcore players who can dedicate an entire weekend to the competition. In games and sports of all descriptions you're going to have to give up a lot of time if you want to reach the top.

I suppose I just find it disappointing if that is the idea. I like MWO as a game I can play in short periods - just the occasional match when I've got a spare few minutes. I hope it doesn't go the way of EVE where you have to sink most of your life into it if you want to have any impact on the game - particularly when faction-based combat is implemented, or if a Solaris mode is brought in.

Yes of course I understand what you mean.. I'm in the same boat really.. but here's what I recommend.. forget the class leaderboards if you can't keep up in matches played.. try for the overall leaderboard.

i'm betting those people who are on the top 25 of each class are basically playing that class and that class only..

which doesnt help them in the overall leaderboard.. which seems to be much easier to gain ground on...

I have played this many matches so far:

Light: 5
Medium: 10
Heavy: 10
Assault: 5

20 matches

and I am ranked between 650 and 950 on the class leaderboards.. nowhere near the top 25

yet I am ranked 107 on the overall board...

and i have a quote from Bryan for you

I want to play only the light bracket, which seems to be the hardest to get on top of. Last night I was 130, after 4 hours, now I'm 169. After work, maybe 200? I wonder if I can catch up. My WLR is similar to the top players, and I'm usually doing well, if I just could play as many games, I could be up there.

The reason that Founder mechs are unmodifiable, for the most part, is that they are unique variants, such as the mechs you can purchase. The fact that we get to even modify it with a single color, nearly inperceptable as it is, is unique also. The mechs are supposed to be older than dirt and handed down from generation to generation. I would, however, enjoy seeing a decal that is unique to the Founder mechs that you could get...maybe a Founders rank decal or a decal of a quote or the mechs name of the players choosing...

Umm no?

I'm looking at my HBK-4G(f).
1 Gauss Rifle, 2 MGs, 1 AMS and an XL 260

Seems I could modify it pretty much as any other mech.
My CPLT-C1(f)
stripped 2 MLs off so I could put two extra tons of LRM ammo on Haven't done much else with it because I generally don't play it.

My friends who have bought Hero mechs have modified the crap out of them. Heros and Founder mechs can most certainly be modded.

Simply because not many people are playing all four classes of mech.

I think you're right ... especially since none of the top 10 overall (as of right now) are in the top 50 in any of the weight classes. If a goof ball like me can play 50 matches rotating through my founders mechs and be (as of right now) in the top 3% overall, it's definitely not skill based.

I hope PGI gets whatever data they need out of this. It would be interesting to see a comparison of the rankings vs. Elo scores, but they'll never release that.

Original poster I was quoting was inquiring why we can not VISUALLY change the Founders mech...paint jobs/cammo...not weapons loadout.

They are unique variants. They are not uniquely LOADED out, however, each of the Founders mechs are VISUALLY, slightly different from the standard versions (you may have to look very closely, but there are differences). Head shape of a Jenner, the nosecone of the Catapult, etc... The Founders mechs feature a roughed up exterior that is supposed to represent generations of use and wear and tear.

I'm top2 right now in the heavy bracket. (not much longer because I'll sleep now).
If you're going for the overall hero you can't play enough matches in one class to be top in one of those brackets.

I really dont think that would work.

200 games now for some of the top players.

Perhaps in the future dividing the victory & medals into actual games played, ie at the end of the tournament have a bracket for the winner with more than 1,000 games played (no doubt someone will..hopefully they don't die from lack of sleep) and then bracket this down to 500 games played, 200 played, 100 played, 50 played, 25 played, and 10 played, etc.

I was kind of interested in this and began playing matches. Over the course of last night and then this morning I have come to a conclusion that this is first and foremost a battle of who has the most free time. Instead of escalating my commitment I will cut my losses in time now.

I wonder if a better option would be like the old fishing games with no matter how many fish you caught the score was based on your top 5 biggest caught. Your score is based off of X amount of games played, if you played more you could drop the lowest one to improve your overall score. That way it gets people to keep playing to try to improve their score and if you do really well in only the minimum amount of games you still have a chance at winning.

Not a bad first attempt at something like this, though if nothing else all those people playing hero/founders mechs will have a nice wad of cash at the end of the weekend. This is also a good way to get ELO data from people.

I have to say, so far I'm disappointed. This is becoming a "who has the least life and can play for 3 days straight" competition... It rewards the number of games played far more than the skill of the pilot. The scores should be adjusted to an average per game to make it more fair for those of us who actually have to work and function in the real world.

Realize !!!

For example - 1st Assault Pilot At the moment got
# Pilot Score Wins Losses 1 Posted Image R**** 233 136 50

Which gives 136+50 = 186 Games

Counting about average match time 5 min gives

930 Minutes of constant inmatch play plus additional mionutes in mechlab loading exiting .. make it 1000 minutes

1000 / 60 = 16.6 HOURS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHOS MAKING THAT KIND OF EVENTS !!!!! ? ????

Event is for for drug addicts ?? or what ??

Show me normal person who plays 16 hours non-stop

We got lifes families work we need to eat **** sleep poo and any other things you can imagine ..

so I Personaly Call for a change in the method of calculating the ranking, from the "matches played" to the the average obtained from all matches.

Why the hell force us to play alone? This is a team game. Forcing a team tournament would finally make most of the idiots out there understand this.

Just adding to the "games played" scenario. I think it should be capped at 25 matches per category once you "opt in". No replacement, no reset, DC only within first 3min or score counts. In the light category, I've played 15 matches.... going 14-1, with an average of at least 1 kill per match, average 300+ damage per match. Rank??? 400's. Guys at top??? Going 56-35 or 80-60 with win-loss. Yeah... who can spend ALL weekend on the game.

just in case you didnt see it

look guys, i get it.. i'm a casual player... at least i think so..

i've only played 28 matches since this thing began.... i have no chance at the class leaderboards..

i probably have no chance at the overall one, but i'm a lot closer to the top 50 in that than in the top 25 in the class ones..

but why are you getting upset over it, really.. it's just a friggen cockpit banner..

just play the game, have fun.. let these people who win this have their day, everyone will know that it rewarded them for how many matches they played, as much as how well they did in them..

look forward to future challenges..

this is the first of it's kind in this game... PGI is testing the waters.. throwing this out there and seeing what results, what kind of feedback they get, etc..

It's not the end of the world if you don't make the leaderboards.. i see no reason to feel any bitterness towards those that do, as if they don't deserve it..

I could care less about the banner and/or anything that came with the reward. For me it was trying to see where I compared to others on a skill based tournament.

It just turned out to be games played, hence why most of the leaders on the board wanted to cap or quickly end it with a deathmatch. How they scored the matches was completely vague (by points). They should have added more detail to the tournament. I wouldn't have tried it if I had known.

From the looks of it, based on the leader board. I am losing my skill by not playing a crap load of games.

The winner in each category should get a solid gold Hero Mech of the type they won in, Of course that will make a great target! :D
