Unless I mis-read the announcement, they are taking a player's top 3 scores in each class over the tournament period and aggregating it. If a player is good, their scores should be pretty consistent from match to match and if so, it should not take more than 5 matches per class to put up some decent scores.

The only time number of matches is going to count is when there is a tie and I think that's just for 1st place (someone correct me if I'm wrong on this).

This is a test run only and since Phase 3 just kicked off with some really odd match ups occurring, how can the results of this tournament be considered to be anything but something that's just for fun.

I hope this is the way it works, would be nice...I was thinking along the same lines...if they took like your top 25 or so games played over the period of the tournament.

I don't see the "top 3 matches" thing anywhere. The only "top 3" I see mentioned, is the part where you only place if you're in the "top 3" of that specific class. I may be mistaken as well, but....from the looks of it, whoever can stay up the longest, get the most matches in, and still shoot accurately, is going to win.

That said....I stocked up on Mountain Dew and microwave burrito's yesterday. I'm gtg lol

So much negativity. It's obviously a tournament type challenge. And tournament in any field of play or profession usually aren't targeted to people with a passing interest.

And it seems to me like it's an incentive for pilots to go pugging, and help out PGI figuring out ELO issues for solo droppers.

I'll opt in.

See you in my splatcat though.

Everybody Like this topic all the way to the top!

The percentage off of the Hero Mech's should be Very High (60%>) because PGI loves to give back to the community that support them.
Who knows. Maybe if they notice after the event, that the community purchased A Lot of Mech's because the prices were so much more reasonable - they may consider to lower the prices of everything.

It is basic Economics, if the price is there a lot more people are going to want to purchase it.

***
Oh, PGI. If you happen to see this post. I'm afraid I have a complaint:

You have not allowed us to tweak the colors of our 'Founder' Mech pattern.
It only allows you to select one single color and it is a tiny almost unrecognizable stripe.
The other 2 colors are blocked and are unmodifiable.

Not only that, but you cannot change the Skin of the Founder mechs. Those fields are inaccessible.

I'm sure that this just got overlooked as Founder Mech's came out before the launch.
Because you certainly have done well on designing a great game!

Could you please correct this problem, and maybe re-do the founder Mech skin? :)
I noticed that you guys have really improved on your Skin's...
Maybe even make a Skin that represents Founder Status.

I picture Legendary Ominous with Lighting Bolts..

The reason that Founder mechs are unmodifiable, for the most part, is that they are unique variants, such as the mechs you can purchase. The fact that we get to even modify it with a single color, nearly inperceptable as it is, is unique also. The mechs are supposed to be older than dirt and handed down from generation to generation. I would, however, enjoy seeing a decal that is unique to the Founder mechs that you could get...maybe a Founders rank decal or a decal of a quote or the mechs name of the players choosing...

Been thinking further about this tournament and the only issue I would have with it is this ->

1st tie breaker goes to the player with the most matches.

If the tournament is about skill, it should be based on the least matches not most. The way it currently is sends an entirely different message about the tournament i.e. this is not a serious tournament, it is just a way to get people to get online and play more.

Ah well, since it is a test run, let's see how they go about the next one.

That's a great Idea...tie breakers should go to the player with the least matches. +1 for you!

What the hell is this PGI??? If we needed any more proof that you're catering to the casuals and giving the units the shaft this was the last nail in the coffin. You wont talk to us, you dont listen to us and now this "thing" that takes into account not skill, not gunnery or teamplay, just a all out grindfest. Uau. When i thought PGI was on track you revert to the old ways.

I'm actually disheartned and speechless. Now i understand why CW was put to the middle of the year, PGI really think the units arent important! The amount of dissapointment is beyond words, you destroy our way to sync drop in 8v8 for our unit campaigns with elo and then start this "my gun is bigger then yours" COD style tournaments which has zero lore, zero community relevance but just to catter to the casual ego of said above style tournament. Singular awards... Last time i checked Russ said this was a team based game. Another lie i see.

I've said my piece, i'm a honest man and will always say how i see it, dont actually care for the ammount of ignorant and uncivilized and self grandeur replies will come after this and the attacks on my person, its the internet, here everyone is big and "scary", in the matter of fact i dont actually think i'll care too much about this game now, i just got fed up with lies and empty promisses.

No, you grouped up games just don't count towards the tournament score.

Dude, calm down. MWO is a team based game, albeit some players do not understand that as a Lone Wolf...this harkens more to a Solaris VII event more than anything else. I'm sure that in the future there will be team based events and unit based events. Be patient man. Give the game time to develop and morph. You're obviously a passionate team/unit based player and you sound very dedicated. Don't give up a game that has so much potential...

Repeat after me "This is a test run, it also helps refine your Elo when you play as a solo rather than in group"

If all things go well, I believe Joseph Mallan is correct when he mentioned that the next event may possibly be for groups, subject to any technical constraints that may apply.

are you sure? this sounds to me like nothing would count after a group-drop at all:

Players who are within a group of 2 or more people for any match played during the event, will not have their scores counted towards any leaderboard challenges.

and this would suck ô.o

Do I have to use one mech for this?
Or can I use a Hunchback a Centurion and a Trebuchet?
Is that summed?

You are not disqualified for playing in groups. Your scores will not count towards the leaderboard challenge if you are grouped.

The wording there would certainly indicate to me, that if you join a group at all during the contest, you forfeit.

The way it reads, imo, is that you can compete in any weight class and the scores for each weight class are weighted seperately...so if you do crappy in lights, it won't count towards your medium matches. However, if you are competing for the Championship, ALL four weight classes will be taken in consideration. Anybody read it differently?

Championship - All four weight classes
Light, Medium, Heavy, Assault - Individual weight class

It says by weight class. It says nothing about chassis.

Well damnit... I have just been informed that I will not be able to play for 40 hours this weekend, and yes it is my damn birthday tomorrow!

Therefore I have decided it best to dedicate myself to one 'mech type... instead of my original plans which I may not speak of :)

Yeah but are they summed up or individual? It would suck to play 4 different mechs through the 3 days and get a quarter of what you intended to. I agree that summed up would be implied, but it would be nice to know.
