HUGE disappointment there, guys.

2 years waiting for just another F2P MMO. Great.

We can´t tell at this point anyway. And if it really creates a good atmosphere, with good and skilled players (www.mektek.net :)) I can consider a single player campaign less important. The last few years I only played Mechwarrior 4: Mercs online or in skirmish anyway. Finished the campagin when the game came out and then focused on multiplayer. And I think many people did so too...

Not sure why the OP is so dead-set against F2P MMOs. It's not like 90% of the details of how the game plays have been released yet.

I disagree fully with the OP.

A Mechwarrior game with a TF2 or Bettlefield style set up is... a dream come true.

Im really disappointed as well. I wanted the full Battletech experience, a cinematic singleplayer campaign, and now all we get is a ****** multiplayer game????

Come on! -___-

disappointed? perhaps i was too. then i read the dev blog and the article on PC gamer and i became hopeful. i've been waiting for some mechy-goodyness for a decade now, so i'm happy that something is coming. I am also a hardcore fan of the cinematic singleplayer but i think the online version will provide more of a challenge.

Not what I expected, but prepared to keep an open mind, and can't argue with the price

As far as I'm concerned, this is the best of both worlds.

The progression and meta-management of the single player merc games.
And the challenge, replayablity, and excitement of the multiplayer matches.

At this point I would rather have a multiplayer-only MechWarrior game over not having a new one at all. We should be glad that Piranha Games was able to at least come up with this game.

I've been waiting a decade for anything MW. Heck, I even got upset the the acronym "MW" was stolen by the Modern Warfare series! That belonged to MechWarrior!

I am sad too :'( but better than nothing.

Maybe if we get a good map editor some fan could make some fan-made campaign ( Hanse davion thing, kurita revolt etc..).

let's hope for the best .

Was alittle dissapointed at first, but the more I think about it and read the Dev Blog the more I like it. IF Piranha Games can pull this off and include all the features they said, this could be one of the best 'Mech games yet (And it's free so...). I believe we are in good hands with Piranha, I read the PC Gamer interview and was pleased. They seem to be true Mechwarrior fans. A few of Russ Bullocks tweets were things like "Going to go play some MWLL" or "Battletech tabletop with the guys".

Everyone if freaking out over this F2P thing but I'm not realy worried. Instead of thinking how this could fail think about what it could be.
It could be an epic (And well deserved for waiting 10 years) Mechwarrior game with great features like:
Customizable cockpit
Roles
Merc Corps
Persistant Universe (This I like the most.)
[See Dev Blog 0 for the rest]

Another thing is that even though there is no singleplayer there is the persistant universe, which in my opinion almost makes up for it. Instead of having the singleplayer story told to us, we will be telling the story :) .

Anyways, It'll be fine. There's no reason to be worrying at all, we barely have an information, screenshots, trailer, etc. And by the way Russ tweeted "Prepping a blog post for the #Mechwarrior Online forums. Why F2P is the best direction for Mechwarrior!" So look out for that.
.

I have and always will play MW for the on-line play.

While dropping in single player and blowing away the computer can be fun every once and a while, I have never EVER had better times playing against the computer than against/with other people either making them laugh or cry.

Mostly cry.

Tell that to the MPBT Community - This is EXACTLY what we wanted and there's a reason that hundreds of people from 15+ years ago are still in touch with each other.

Heh, funny that, but it irks me too. "MW" will always and forever mean "MechWarrior" for me.

I was a little disappointed when I heard that the game would be all PvP. But five seconds later I was picturing myself and my friends in our own lance, blasting away like we did in the old days. It's been ages since all of us were stoked for the same game. MWO will be the first time in years that *all* of us will be playing together again. My initial misgivings are now ancient history.
