So no single player campaign, no coop, no local multi, no 3015.

It is disappointing not to have a single player setup. However, two things come to mind. First, its a new mechwarrior!!! Everyone has been waiting around for it. Second, the devs did say that while the initial release won't have co-op nor single player, they are atleast considering it. If enough interist is shown in having a single player campaign, they are will most likely add it. I say both wait and see what comes out as well as show them what we would like and see what happens

  • i think the op is a little harsh, I've been a mech fanatic since Mw2:Mercs AND have played World of Tanks since closed beta last year. World of Tanks is an awesome skirmish game, and not pay-to-win, most money tanks have weak points you can find and exploit. I am excited for this to be F2P. My gripe is a story/game play one. I do agree, that setting this in 3049 is a turn off for me, cause now I will have to wade through legions of clan kiddies and their egregiously overpowered mechs. 3015 would have been an awesome blend of mechs, mad max, and poltiics...clan invasion will be something more like battlefield only one side is given future tech for the sole purpose of bad writing/balancing.
points to anyone that knows the character behind my name :)

first to rebuking the op, they never said they are not implementing such, in fact co op is likely, with them mentioning that its will foucse on team based gamplay, and the fact that a lost of games of this nature have co-op vs survival challange or score attack like modes (usally not at launch, but its likely to come) personally, I loved mechwarroir 4 mercs, the didn't hold my attention, but the controls and feel of the game was great, It impressed me for a while that with the weight each mech had, and how it handled It didn't feel like I was just doing the same thing I do to control a person, but moving a mech. but thats not all, where most sim games lose me with the learning curve, the controls here where inuitiive (well perhaps not intutive, I had to do the tutoral to figure it out, but there where easy to get use to) and the customization was great, I felt like anything used well could be a good option, and fun to drive. unfortunatly this was all I experienced of the game, after clearing the campain I tried to get the updates applied so I could see how well this beautiful game was with others, but I couldent get it working, I short, If this can refine the feel of what I know, and expanding on the customization I enjoyed, this game has my money. the only problem I have with it being free to play is that the pace of getting new equipment and items is often a slow grind, and in a game where a lot of the fun was customization, this means it could be a bit of time investment (or money investment) before a aspect of what I loved about MW4, what brings me to this game, is in the experience, but aside from that, shut the **** up and judge the game on the game (you don't judge yet!)

this all said if they decide to make take the game in a direction away from what was great about mw4, I'll still try it, but It would have to have some other great merit to sell me on it, the mech sim feel is what I'm here for

I've always enjoyed the SP campaigns with the unfolding story and every mission being a page-turn in that story. At first, I would play it through trying my best to survive at all costs; then I would play it again trying different tech; then I would replay it trying to win with less and less tech and lighter class mechs --- I got a lot of great fun and experience out of SP play. Some kind of randomisation of forces on replay would have even made it even better (hint). I'm a bit disappointed at no SP campaign as well

However, I'm ecstatic about a new MW game and I have total confidence in what PGI is doing --- They seem to be doing something like what many of us were dreaming about years ago. They are well aware of BT, MW, the lore, and our history. Let's not underestimate them.

As for SP, Who really knows?.... Perhaps they will surprise us?

That the first part, the 3015 etc part, was what they wanted to initialy do... but could not due to the big publishers not wanting to put the money needed on it, basicly not beliving in the project.

So they had to reevaluate, and now we are in 3049 instead... and a online game with no singleplayer campaign, instead of what would essentually have been MW5 with a singleplayer campaign with multiplayer added as well if they had got to do their initial idea.

Could you kindly quote a developer or publisher regarding the 2nd part starting with "no single player campaign"?

[EDIT]...or something regarding canceled co-op mode...

He's not being harsh, more like talking like an ignorant fool.

I was very disappointed when I read no single player campaign but after I read the PC Gamer interviews and the Dev Blog 0, I totally understand and sympathise with the situation PGI was in. And I truly support them in this endeavour.

I also read on Dev Blog 0 the following.

We spent some design cycles adapting our previous concepts and quickly realized a synergy between F2P and the BattleTech universe.

@OP: Don't be overhasty with conclusions about how the game will look like on release.

I actually prefer it happened this way. I'm sure the devs don't, but quite honestly, I don't want any console ports of Mechwarrior. To me, this is a game meant to be played on a PC. If they had to develop this game with consoles in mind, us PC gamers would be getting a game that was built to run on the limitations of the console.

The truth is we really know nothing yet. Maybe 5 months down the road if there are bad signs we can start discussions like this, but for now it's to early to tell what the game will be like and what will or won't be added in the future.

There is always something to complain about I guess...

Start lobbying for expansion packs. It's a feature of these persistent games.

When do F2P games ever have solo campaign when they are FPS?

MWO will hopefully be, WoT style with Mechassault arcadishness with Mechwarrior Customization.
Log on, pick mech & fitting then join and it lobbies you into the next match.

Like WoT each team will need light, medium and heavies/assault mechs.

Except in WoT you don't need light or medium tanks. That's why there are no light or medium tanks in clan wars. It's all T10 heavies with a spattering of T9 heavies for when you're T10s have been destroyed and are on cooldown.

There are no objectives in WoT besides killing the other team or getting a simple flag cap by sitting in the enemy's spawn area for a few minutes.

Unless MWO has huge maps with multiple objectives and actually allows uneven team sizes (i.e. two 45 ton mediums in place of a single 90 ton assault on the enemy team) lights, mediums, and even most heavies will be nothing but a burden on the assault mechs.

I don't see how this is a problem. If anything, a Mechwarrior MMO is even better!

It's in the FAQ at the top of the page.

"Q. What year is MechWarrior® Online™ taking place?

A. MechWarrior® Online™ is running an offset timeline of the BattleTech® Universe. As of this writing it is 2011 and the year is 3048 within the game. In 2012, when the game is launched, it will be 3049."

I am going to give this title the benefit of the doubt, even though I have huge reservations. However, one aspect I am extremely disappointed with is the 3049 timeframe. That sucks bros. 3015 would have been more interesting, and more salvage tech, would have have been epic.

Sweating. That's what I remember most about MW multi-player games from the past. Really got me into the game and really remember being nervous waiting to join a game. Single player is great, but nothing like battling a real person.

Online play is where most games find their longevity. A good single player is a bonus, but doesn't make or break a game in my books. I'm just happy MW is finally getting some love and attention it deserves.

I will say I'm nervous about the F2P aspect of the game, because that title carries a stigma with it. Although, my excitement right now for this game outweighs any other feeling I have about it. Hopefully we're not kept in the dark with the development.
