So no single player campaign, no coop, no local multi, no 3015.

The real fun is online - community, skill, tactics, teamwork, etc.
Get over it..
I want a online planetary league-like setup. Fight for planets.

Also, in a single-player game, you can't make your own Merc outfit with your friends and patrol the Inner Sphere. This is why I have thought for a long time that MW would make a fantastic online game, whether they had done an SP title or not. It opens up a lot of possibilities, and I think it is gonna be awesome.
I second this sentiment.
My only qualm is that it isn't set during the final Succession War, even if it meant my favorite faction wouldn't have existed. It is going to be a headache and a half for the devs to figure out a way to include the Clans. They're bound to make someone mad no matter how they do it. If they let them be playable, it splits the community and brings in the issue of technology imbalance. If you only let them be NPCs, people will feel like they are being teased by not being able to play as their favorite Clan.

You don't get into a "Massively Multiplayer Online" game expecting to solo; the word "multiplayer" is built right in. If you want to solo, go play a console game.

Pretty much what I though when I heard about this. Battletech has so much potential for great stories - instead we get another MMO where people don't win because they're better but because they spend more time playing and got better equipment. We'll see how good this game will actually be but I must that that I am disappointed as well.
What the heck are you talking about, what MMO,where did they said its going to be MMO jeez, get your facts straight!
And if you read their blog 0 you would understand why they went with Free To Play model.

2 years waiting for just another F2P MMO. Great.
I feel you there, though the explaination of why there is MWO instead of MW 3015 made sense.
But really, I feel you there. MW was one of the first PC games I ever played, it had such a profound effect on me that every now and then I will hum an old MW2 tune and get deja vu.
But really the biggest damage to my personal entertainment comes from the fact that it is PC exclusive. Now that the home consoles are the main form of video game entertainment, none of my friends will be willing to even try Mechwarrior since they have a great aversion to playing video games on the PC.
It will be a lone wolf... or lone fox path for me.

And if you read their FAQ (specifically, the later questions about 'pick my faction?' and 'custom 'clans'?' and 'online character/game persistence?') you'll see that what they're describing is part of the new field of Massively-Multiplayer-Online games that break from the existing cliche of WoW/EverCrack/etc. MMO-RPGs.
Also, I would ask you "What does 'MWO' stand for?"

Hah. I don't think they even know how to use the computer besides using youtube.
I dunno though, I'm the only one of my IRL group who likes Sonic and Warhammer 40,000 so this will just be one more solo title to add to the list.

Speak for youself.. I know tons of MMO players that strickly solo in those worlds.. SWG, EQ, WOW, COH, STO, DDO.. shall i name more? More people than you realize solo in these kind of games, infact its a fairly large % so much infact that there is tons of content geared exactly for solo.
The game is defiantly not going to be an MMO right out of the gate, but ill bet there are a lot of people that would love a mech based MMO, and perhaps if not right away, eppisode style content, like they have been adding to MMO's like STO, and DDO, and CoH. Short story based missions that run 3-6 missions, something that can be completed in an evening, solo or with some freinds if you like.
A mech based RPG is a lot higher on peoples lists than you think, And single player RPG's were born on computers, so not sure where ya got that idea from. You can have a shooter/skill based game, that also is an RPG,.. I don't know why people are so against the concept and trying to push any player away that would love to see that type of game play.
wouldnt it make more sence to invite those players in, and perhaps try to add things that suits those styles in the future?, giving the game more money to develope things that everyone would love?
A new eppisode would mean a whole new map you could add for muliplayer combat.. Perhaps another eppisode is a raid on a clan base.. wow look, now you have a new rural mountain map, and a destroy base mulitplayer map to play on, and you got them because lots of people would shell out money to buy these campaign missions.
Im glad they are going this way, cause with the FTP model, the game developes by what the players buy. If they start adding some campaign style stuff and it sells well, you can be sure that more will come. And more players, buying more things, no mater what they want to do, multi-player pvp, or pve, Or campaign style, all that means is lots more money to expand the game further. To me that is a good thing

I figured I'd randomly support your arguement, no real intention in mind.
It'd be telling to know that the biggest name in all of Massive Online Games(World of Warcraft) designed their last expansion: World of Warcraft Cataclysm to have completely soloable content from level 80-85. You can do 100% of the quest chains in WoW Cataclysm solo, in fact Blizzard removed aggressive group content from the quest progression because people didn't like being pushed into grouping!
