Why Is Mwo So Hard On New Players And Casuals?

Trust me that the dev team are looking at concurrent users, new users, how long new users play before quitting, what percentage of new users continue to play and who just quits and trying to improve that.
Games which don't get new players do not make as much money as games which are rely on an existing player base. If they don't make money, the game doesn't keep existing. The Dev team has an agenda here.
That said, I don't think MWO is actually *that* hard on new users. The Cadet bonus gets you a mech and lets you customize it, and if you're really into the game you'll either MC-purchase another couple or you'll just grind out the money for a different one. Chances are you'll find something that jives with your playstyle early on and you can focus on those.

This is bang on.
Seriously, the game is a bit more difficult than a typical shooter, but that's a massive part of the appeal for me (and I can only assume many, many other people on here). The game requires some intelligent thought, with any luck it won't be dumbed down to satisfy the instant gratification A.D.D. gamers out there (there are enough games for those people already, including some that are sorta big stompy robot types).
Having said that though, I think there could be a middle grounds of sorts.
Simply having an actual "Training Grounds" (the vids explain a bit, but not too too much), where people can walk around in their 'Mechs, test out their weapons...etc, would help with all the crying.
Although, I doubt that most of the ADD gamers would bother with the tutorial.... Can't win, I guess.

There was someone yesterday posting who wasn't aware you could drag items off of your mech to put them into storage.
He was selling and re-buying items every time he fiddled with his mech.
Sure, I knew about it, but it's not actually mentioned anywhere this is something you can do, if you don't think to try it and don't ask how would you find out?

You're right. There is no shame in that. What is shameful is your ****** little post that implies that these players are noobs and not fit to play mechwarrior (I presume you're not quite shameless enough to pretend otherwise, but if you post a defense, save it; any forum veteran has seen those words a thousand times and knows exactly what they really mean), when in fact the game is not functional in this regard, and highly insular. If I were to do the same thing back to you, I'd propose it's not your fault you're a snide, sneering, and venial jerk with ****** typography, you're just a product of your environment. Hurrhurr.
So let's be clear about this: LoL and WoW might not be good games (or at least not anymore), but their approach to new players strictly dominates the one in MWO. That is, it is flat out superior for everyone, in every case. MWO does not communicate it's purpose well. Period. New players have about fifty different things to get the hang of even BEFORE you consider that elimination style games are inherently difficult to break in to, because you get so little opportunity to practice approaches each game (i.e. you get one). Picking this up is like picking up CS 1.6. You've really got to want to be here.
A strong tutorial is mandatory if you want this community to keep growing. Because I want to focus my efforts on figuring out the timing on an enemy raven coming around that ridge and flanking instead of trying to determine if my PPC has a minimum range or not. If what everyone is saying about having to suffer 10-20 matches before you can really play is true, then I will tell you this: most players aren't going to have our patience, and this game is going to hit a wall a month after release.
LOL and WOW are set to ***** level. That is why I do not play them. My coworker has a 7 year old with a max character who raids in both. Your attack on me for stating the truth about them is your personal hang up and I am sorry you cannot get past it. Your personal attacks do not invalidate that those games are for kiddies.
Note I said we needed in game tuts and experimentation map. This game is NOT hard, it just takes more thought than playing something on the Xbox or Playstation. Some players are not the right people for MWO, as I said, no shame in that. The game should not address the lowest common denominator because that niche is ALREADY filled by other games.
I am sorry you take being a poor player so personally that you have to make new accounts to attack people. Perhaps a job outside of your basement will help develop your skills.

MWO on the other hand is perfect, 10 min match, instant action, quite deep game that can be played when you have 1/4h to kill, for me is perfect. So for the "time" casual this game is good.
Now if you are referring to the "complexity" casual, yes then this game is not for them and I do not think that tutorial are going to help with that, the game will still be complex and hard to master, because its nature. It is what I would call a semi-sim, if you do not want to make the effort of learning you are in for a world of pain. Resource are available but even a great tutorial cannot teach you tactics, environmental awareness, the role of the mech you are playing, what kind of upgrade you need to fit your play style. Most of this you need to research by yourself.

If they had stuck to the original design it would've been ******* epic.

This.
The cadet bonus pretty much means 1 free custom equipped mech after your first 25 matches, almost regardless of your performance.
Personally I'm a fairly casual player and have only played 198 matches (according to http://mwomercs.com/profile/stats) and my mechbay contains the following:
Stalker 5M
Raven 3L
:edit:
Both purchased & equipped with CBills. MC purchased but only for cosmetics.

I'm not being sarcastic. and on top of being a better than pc's, having better games than pc's as well, consoles also have better graphics. I don't have to spend thousands of dollars on a computer for sub par graphics when i can spend 300$ on a console and get only the best.
look and weep losers, this is why microsoft is the best company in the world, stay jelly with your terribad 1200$ computers and your bad games and graphics.

and this is why consoles will always be superior. bask in that 2080p definition. and if you impotent nerds don't think thats terrifying, just wait until the xbox 720, it will be even better than that.

I didnt learn that until my second or third week of owning a mech, so 3-4 weeks in? i was selling everything and rebuying at that point and i think a lot of people do that.

1. The graphics are actually as they are for a very good reason. The game, even with its current "crappy" graphics, uses up a disproportionally huge amount of CPU because of the large amount of stuff it has to load. If it had modern graphics, you would probably have to have a SuperCray computer to make it even load.
2. Minecraft isn't supposed to have a story. It's a sandbox. Players make their own stories.
3. It is a good game. It's really just meant for different people. For instance, I personally can't stand racing games but there are lots of people that love them. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

As far as mechs go, "cookie cutter" builds are not needed to play. Research helps, but pick a mech that is closer to a trial you like and go with it. My first mech was a copy of the LRM Hunchback trial at the time. My next mech was a Cicada, which I completely enjoyed, and still do.
I haven't played a single cookie cutter build the whole time and I've had good success. Most of my builds are a good balanced mix or weapons and ranges. About as close to cookie cutter I got was 4PPC stalker, which was set up back when PPCs fired together did almost no damage for whatever reason. Even then, I tend to be different from most other people's PPC builds.
My point is, if you can use it well, it doesn't matter if it's cookie cutter or balanced. You don't even have to boat to be good. (Love when people charge my LRM stalker thinking it's a boat, just to find lasers melting them for their folly.) You can make the mech work for you, and not take everyone else build.

yeah that sounds lame, I think I'd prefer to trust a professional with story writing over some lame nerd. microsoft ea and activision know what they're doing. sandbox is just lingo for a bad game with no direction.
