Seems it's becoming a lot more common the amount of people who accurately snipe at over 1400 metres on the basic maps which have poor visibility.

Reduce the mouse input speed to get better accuracy and change the vision so thermal is clear out to 1600 metres.

I've been offered to do it myself but to me it feels like it's wrong.

While the people who use it counter by saying it's dialing in. Well if you change the game in a way that's not a setting and using it to get an advantage to me seem to fall into the same gray as an aimbot, but without the tag of being a hack

If the devs wanted us to mod the config file, it would be an in game option, not something you need tools to do on the net and the knowledge to do which a lot of just for fun gamers don't know.

Steel and metals i know being a boilermaker, but pc's, i turn on, and play games as intended by the dev's.

Uumm...well, I haven't modified any config files. I rarely do in any game. I wouldn't need to modify the game's config file to modify the input speed on my mouse, anyway. I can use my mouse's software to set selectable sensitivity levels, which is way better than a config file edit. Making thermal more clear...yea, I agree something like that shouldn't be able to happen.

I believe the dev team has confirmed that film grain and FOV will both have sliders ingame at some point, even Garth plays with a MODIFIED CFG OMG to take his FOV up to 79.

I have just increased my FoV which is being added as a slider in game at some point.

Are you a Purdue Boilermaker or do you actually make boilers? I'm a Boilermaker.

Oh, and I agree. I got my shield arm taken off on my Cent at about 1200m in 2 shots from a JJing 3D. Could have been skill, but felt pretty unreal.

I had to do it becuase my mouse sensitivity was crazy and the game was unplayable, but when they add it to the options i will clear the user.cfg file.

you can disable fog (and other stuff) completely via the engine.pak, colors can be changed, etc. etc.

S!

It is not that hard to find the commands for CryEngine 3 and make an own customized config file to gain somewhat better vision etc. I did change my FOV to a bit bigger and removed the grain effect etc. But did not touch the night vision and thermal vision attributes, even the commands tell what is what etc. Cheating or not, hard to say.

Maybe devs should sit down and discuss how to make their own implementation in GUI, for example, for more settings tweaking and closing the rest of the commands to be useless even making a config file. Or they can just let it be as it is now. Lot of things are still so beta that it is glaring, maybe one day MWO will reach a level where it is a full fledged BT game.

yup
you will not need to adjust your config if you have good gaming mouse.
I run a RZR DeathAdd and a RZR Nostro game pad.

I do not understand the clearing the thermal vision up thing.
I am not worried about it either, I run on a 52 inch monitor and I can see you just fine. :D

How much damage can someone even do at 1400 anyway? Particularly against a non-AFK target? I've had people try to snipe me from beyond the draw distance and stuff, but it barely does anything. And I'm lumbering around in a 56 KPH atlas, so I'm basically the best-case scenario for a sniper target.

Clearing the thermal/night vision gives you a slight edge while fighting. Not a blurry mess anymore. Those who want to tweak the game will do so unless devs put a stop to it somehow or offer better tweaking tools in-game.

Not sure what you are talking about - thermal vision is avilable for everybody right out of the box and practially all gaming mice allow you to change DPI, so neither of those requires any modifications to MWO config files.

You can tweak the vision modes to be more crisp, draw farther and so on is propably what the OP meant.

Guess i must be a dumb arse when it comes to pc's then, as yes i can find the config file but i can't see a way to change it. Though i looked only to see how supposely easy this was.

<Attr value="0" name="OptionCfg.AutoRearm"/> <Attr value="0" name="OptionCfg.AutoRepair"/> <Attr value="13" name="OptionCfg.ResolutionIdx"/> <Attr value="1" name="OptionCfg.ShowFoundersTag"/> <Attr value="1" name="OptionCfg.ViewMode"/> <Attr value="0.500000" name="OptionCfg.r_Brightness"/> <Attr value="0.500000" name="OptionCfg.r_Contrast"/> <Attr value="1080" name="OptionCfg.r_Height"/> <Attr value="1920" name="OptionCfg.r_Width"/> <Attr value="0.500000" name="OptionCfg.s_DialogVolume"/> <Attr value="0.000000" name="OptionCfg.s_MusicVolume"/> <Attr value="0.200000" name="OptionCfg.s_SFXVolume"/> <Attr value="0" name="OptionCfg.sys_spec"/> <Attr value="4" name="OptionCfg.sys_spec_Environment"/> <Attr value="1" name="OptionCfg.sys_spec_Particles"/> <Attr value="2" name="OptionCfg.sys_spec_Shading"/> <Attr value="2" name="OptionCfg.sys_spec_Shadows"/> <Attr value="0" name="Quick1"/> <Attr value="0" name="Quick2"/> <Attr value="0" name="Quick3"/> <Attr value="0" name="Quick4"/>

none of those say FOV and there's no FOV in the advance settings, so as I'm pointing out. The typical for fun only pc gamer doesn't understand or see a way to mod these files, but those with pc understanding of programming do.

Yet how big a % of the player base knows how to do this?

thus how many people have an advantage over having clear thermal vision while the rest of us have thus ugly fuzzy grainy thing to deal with?

In the year 3050 i'd have thought imaging like thermals and night vision would have improved beyond todays standards, so i would like to see them improved, but till it's able to be done by everyone how is that not still taking advantage of an edge over the other gamers?

Does it make you feel good to shoot someone at a range they can't even see you in return? Do you lack the skills to fight on an even battle field like the rest of us users who don't understand or like myself even knew about this till over a few days ago?

As for damage at that range, the max range of an ER PPC is now what? 1620 and Guass 1980? so at 1400-1600 metres it was enough to yellow my armour and 2nd shot turned it orange. while i can't even target you in return cause your "daillied" the game in as people call it?

Those with complex's always try to make an excuse for there need to get an edge, generally it's to compensate for short comings in real life. while resonable people say they do it wihout making those who don't out to being cry babies for asking about it.

As for slowing the mouse input, maybe i should think about a new mouse but this one is fine, it's old but still works great, nice size for my large hands.

flame away and call me all the names you want, my opinion is that, an opinion. So i'm not wrong, i'm not crying, trolls who say stupid things like oh my mouse button does this, i'm a hacker! Are just after a response, so not even going to quote them.

The editing is done to the USER.cfg found in MWO main folder. You add the lines there. For example if you want bigger FOV then open the USER.cfg with notepad and add the line cl_fov = 85 to it and save. Given value is an example which I am using at the moment.
