Then you'll be quite surprised to know that an old poll indicated that the average age of the MWO player was around 30.

Maybe you mean psychology?

Though it would be more accurate to call what you described behavioral sciences.

Typo. I'm on a tablet with auto complete. Will edit.

More analytics. It could be autism, or psychopathy. These two are not related by the way.

In the U.S. and E U there is a growing number of the population that display narcissist tendencies. A lot of internet behavior seems to me to display this trend.

As you can see from the date, this has been true for some time.

Not to try and be overly analytic.

But in all honesty this comes down to poor parenting.

Some parents fail to proper raise their children which leads to them having behavioral problems. This can often b evidenced by inappropriate public displays.

Look, the problem is not that people are swearing. It is an "adult" game after all. Giant robots hellbent on destroying each other. I think some swearing is to be expected. The problem is actual attacks on other players.

E.G.

"You're a F***** N*****R and you deserve to die like your N***** forefathers."

That is very obviously a problem.
Compare that to,

"F***** LRMS ruining the game as usual." or "I hope you ECM pilots die in a F****** fire."

Which is no one is liable to take offense at, balance of LRMS or ECM non withstanding. (except maybe the LRMS)
So yeah =D

Just report the ******** and get back to blasting each other into scrap. It has to be a community effort though, everyone has to report them especially if they are definitely personal with their attacks.

Perhaps, but it's awfully conclusive to just say it's the parents when there is a wide wide, quite wide array of possibilities when it comes to behavioral problems. For example, the parents (while they have a significant factor) wouldn't be their child's sole choice for role models, they would have many others to influence them.

To the original OP. Get over your righteous self. People trash talk. Its a game on the internet. Have you never in your life played a game on the internet before?? I don't care much for racial slurs ... but damn, grow up or go find a nice Christian Call of Duty server.

Also what constitutes hate speech?

I'm actually curious to know what is offending you?

ps play the game a lot and have NEVER seen anything remotely hate speechish

Actually no.....they may make 1 or 2 new accounts, but eventually there behavior changes or they quit.

Just because it wont be an instant fix doesnt mean we shouldn't care, nor should we stop tryin.

The real issue is we have no control since we are stuck in 'matchmaking', like a console game.

If we had private servers the admins could ban or kick for such offenses.

Perhaps PGI will come up with a 'console-style' way of dealing with these people.

Behaivioral problems like autism, or psychopathy are not realy the type of isues in this thread. Poor core values that lead to this kind of behaivior should have been stomped out by better parenting. Parents dealing with kids with real disorders are a different story.

Griefing, Teamkilling, DDOSing opponents and ACTUAL hate speech needs to be reported and acted upon.

However, harsh words during a match are just a part of gaming culture. You either deal with it, or you stop playing.

Note: I understand that the line between those can be very subjective, but that's up to the 'offended' person to gauge.

That is true. But since core personality traits r established very early n life their parents should have controlled the childs exposure to extreme role models etc.

But I am not blaming just the parents. Just saying n the end they r the most influential external force to curbing poor public behavioral issues like cursing.

I blame parents for kids not being able to spell properly, too.

I wonder what percentage of the people saying it's "just words" are minorities. I have a feeling one's background might have an effect on opinion on the subject.

It bothers me in principle, but at this point I'm so use to it, I don't think I even notice it. I did spend the last few years playing Red Orchestra (a WWII game) with it's share of National Socialist fanboys.

I'm an Indian. I'm a brown person in a white world, doesn't get more minority than that.

Plus I'm from the South of my country and living in the North. Double minority points for me.

But I'm also a male in a patriarchal country, so that swings the meter back the other way..........

Okay, pretty confused now.
