So, there I was, on a dark night on River city. Agast as my fellow asslts died exceedingly fast, dealing little damage. How unfair I thought. Elaine, how could you do this to me, I muttered to myself.

Fortunately, my ac20, LL's and srm6's (3) were up to the task.

I blasted, and blasted, and then blasted some more. And the next thing you know, the enemies starting falling like dominos.

You must admit that based on their performance, I could argue I was the only asslt on my team. And the enemy asslts, were epic in comparison to my own.

Is this an example of the power of ECM? Well, I dont carry ECM. So I guess not. Nor did the Illya who got second to top score.

Is this an example of ELO failing?

I am not sure how to interpret this data, so I put it to you, forum experts.. masters of the BT manuals..

Whats going on here.

Note: This is probably the best game I ever had, I still think I suck. Middle of the road at best.

Sidenote: TankGirl, if you really are a girl, shoot me an invite. Id drop with you in a hot second. First dibs to Lefty Lucy though, shes actually liked one of my posts. ;)

little confused by the post op but I'm glad you had a good time.

on a side note those other assaults on your team towards the bottom.. i refuse to believe anybody is actually that bad because of non hardware related reasons. mwo is a point and click adventure, anybody who fails at that should probably consider getting more familiar with their control hardware to avoid repeats.

then again on occasion I have a derp like that or an unlucky game.

Well, one died beside me fighting, the awesome, so he didnt DC if thats what you mean. How does that relate to the OP though I am not sure, the odds were against me either way.

A CN9-A is a Centurion right? Tank Girl rocks in a CN9-A.

You see those 3 mechs with 7 assists and two others with 5? It means they did all the work and you lucked out.

Well with Elo you carried your team with the damage so you will gain an Elo boost, so will the rest of your team of course but if you constantly do that damage you should be on more winning sides than losses. Whereas low damage early death players should in theory eventually have lower Elo by causing their team to lose. In theory. I guess there's always the chance that a low Elo player is carried all the way and a high Elo player is hampered

I can imagine there still being a large number of players around the starting Elo rates and it will take a while to get out of that bulk of players and matched to those with equal Elo consistently.

An assist can be a 1 dmg point laser graze. I am not saying the others didnt do their part, im saying the 2 asslts we had were mostly dead weght. For perspective, that person w 7 assists, was tank girl. God bless her.

You guys will never give me props. I should have expected as much I guess. I can tell you I was toe to toe th emajority of the match, but youll prob reply, wheres your video to prove it right. Well, thats how it went. I am slways up front, and more often than not, it goes badly for me.

And would you say this means ELO, which we lovingly refer to as Elaine, is broken, or fundementally flawed in some way.

I for one, am one of Elaines biggest fans, even if she occassionally slaps me in the face.

Ok, you had a good match. But the Illya pilot deserves a lil more credit I think.

In case of not trolling:

Elo is just an estimation of your skill, not a 100% accurate way to always have tight fight. A fight have too much parameter to be taken in count to have such a thing anyway. Random example out of my a$$: in WoT, in company battle (equivalent to 8man drop here) our just above average team meet one of the best team of the game, not only we decided to use the worse plan ever for that particular map, but we also gave away our plan to the enemy team. Result ? We won. and loss only 2 tank out of 10.

Nice game. Ignore the haters. When i get high kills and 300 or so damage on my 3L people say i KS. But in actuality, i took out CTs and main weapons only.

most of your "damage" is probably from component and ammo destruction on the kill shot. Kill shots which were made on mechs which were significantly damaged and armor stripped by your team mates. You want props? show me round where you have 8 assists, 0 kills, and still top the damage points.

You had a lucky round and that's all it was.

No I wouldn't say Elo is broken.

For starters we don't and we won't know what your current Elo is. Everyone starts with 1300 and I can imagine that it will find players at least 50 elo either side. The system just needs time and a lot of games to be played so that people can be filtered to their natural Elo. Games will have players of wildly different skill levels for a little while longer. Eventually you should see less disparity between players. But of course no amount of Elo can predict being headshot in the first few minutes of a round or DCing or the like.

That Ilya was a solid wing man/lady/ladyboy/etc

From play experience id say Ilya helped and you finished. Assault v Assault is a function of highest damage over time. If you gain any advantage thanks to a teammate or two it makes all the difference. Enemy assaults could have killed most of your team, but them coming in weaker than you makes for more longevity.

Actually, I will give credit to everyone but our Awesome and Atlas at the bottom. The Illya was a beast, and so was Tank Guy. By and large the team was great, but weight wise, if you count the atlas as null bc he *cough* was less than helpful, we were greatly outgunned.

The whole, balance on weight not skill argument (The "anti-Elaine" argument), is a pretty flat one. Matches like this, completely disprove it.

Hmm. ELO is a bit of a point of contention with me. I'm taking this sort of seriously so comments as follows:

First off, I can't even hit 300~400 damage consistently. Closest I got was 800+ points in a SplatCat when I Splatted most of two Atlas. So to have done 900+ points is an achievement -- how big how small I won't know, to be honest.

Second, it seems your team is at least more cohesive then the opposite team. Someone pointed out to me that if a team has a lot of assist, as least it is indicative that they are concentrating firepower as a team, even if coincidentally. For a default Centurion-9A to have many assists isn't that uncommon if it's running SRMs or LRMs (splatter fire does drive numbers up), but for them to have a decent damage score AND assists means they have been busy.

To me, the damage spread and assist counts seems to indicate that your team worked more as a 6-men team, whereas the other team worked more as two 4-men team. If your 6-men team hit each of their lances separately, you would have an advantage. Otherwise if you got pincered between the two lances, they probably have the advantage.

That's as much as I want to say for the fight results. What bothers me about ELO -- or Elaine -- is that I don't like the way they seemed to have placed two high ELO players into a group with 6 somewhat lower ELO, and then thrown the whole mix against another group that appears to have similar ELO for each member (based on match scores) or 1 high and the rest are average.

Can't describe it adequately, example would be Team A has one or two Elite pilots whereas the other 4 are Regulars and 2 Greens. Team B has maybe 2 Veteran pilots and 6 Regular pilots. Matchmaker rubberbands and matches the two teams up.

Such a matchup will likely go that Team A's greenies and lower regulars would get fragged early, then depending on the team spread, the Elites swing the battle around by curbstomping Team B's Regulars and then Team A focused fire killing Team B's Veterans. In this case Overall ELO of Team A is not indicative of its effectiveness, and matching it up against Team B isn't exactly 50/50.

What could be a better way is for Elaine to gather up individual ELO, then getting Matchmaker to build a team by slot.. say, 2 Elite-Veteran slots, 4 Veteran-Regular slots, etc. etc. Of course this can still lead to very contentious pairings, so in a sense there is no good solution.

BTW, if ELO is Elaine, can we call Matchmaker Maggie? Then with Betty, we have the Bridge Bunny trio... xD
