Heck, besides the forums, the main page (at the time), the email I got (and still have), the patch notes from the switch to open-beta (okay, not always the easiest to find), I also remember the client stating that in the feed as well for at least a week.
I'm pretty sure they are not legally obligated to visit you personally for this stuff. Plus, if this was their master plan as a scam, it failed miserably. Following the ineptitude of telling people what was going to happen, they netted one guy. I'm not sure if that even counts as a scam. Semi-literate, English-as-a-third-language, Nigerian teenagers have a higher success rate posing as exiled nobility.
Plus, they took the scam WAY to far. They are actually creating a game that works. That took a lot of effort. And money. Yea, as a scam, this is the worst one I have ever heard of!

For the record (since you went to the "real life" defense on this one):
- 3 kids (Dance Team, Little League, and diapers!)
- Registered Professional Engineer and Geologist = Full Time job (and then some)
- Manager (job title)
- Still married!!!
- Have my own house (not mom's basement)
And... still got the word. I sorta feel bad if you didn't. But I'm not sure how anyone could have possibly have physically gotten word to you.
