Now personally I enjoy Elo. I enjoy it because I care less about winning or losing than having a good close fight. I enjoy the challenge.
You don't apparently.

elo is not a balanced system for an 8v8 game. your fate is decided by luck when you press the launch button. elo is a system for 1v1 games. if you get the team, you win, if you get the dribblers, you lose. there are far too many variables to make it balanced

Elo is a balanced system, in that ideally each side has a 50% chance to win.
Imbalanced is when you have a 90% chance to win due to being better than a majority of the other players. It may be imbalanced due to skill, but it's still an imbalanced match.

The point of Elo isn't even about that 50% win/loss rate. It's there so that the matches are usually close, as in the matches are challenging for both sides, and even if you lose there is the idea that had you personally been just a bit better you could have turned the tide.

oh im smug alright, i wouldnt deny that.
fact is, im not wrong. gamers in general nowadays are horrible little people. mechwarrior doesnt seem nearly as bad as other games but give that time. wait until you have 2 team mates shut down on the spawn and refusing to play because you suggested to go to a certain point on the map. ill give you a hint what they are raging at - being bad at the game.

You started with flames, got flames, and are now validating that jerks are on the internet? I guess leading by example works in a lot of cases.

You really DO need to get away from games, they have made you one of these horrible little people you mentioned. Now run along boy, till you're old enough to play nice with the rest of the gamers.

So far i like elo, less pug stomping games....

I know I feel its effect. I have been playing a new centurion sense elo was implemented, and I jumped into a raven for one game and PRESTO! I had 5 kills and 3 assists, over 1k damage.... Ya all but a one man wipe out there. Poor other team didn't stand a chance. I'm not saying that my team mates didn't do a good job or that I am the best pilot out there, but there was definitely a skill level change. No one on the other side could hit me if their lives depended on it (which i did...) Went back to my centurion happy as a clam, and continued to lose about 50% of the time.

I would say take a break, don't think so highly of your skill (as there will always be someone out there better then you) and come back after its out of bata if you can't tread through the bata testing process with only half the stuck working, and the other half working only half the time....

MWO elo matches are based on an average elo score for your team. I suppose you could argue whether that provides proper balance, but if the proper calibration numbers are used to determine individual elo, I think it's probably somewhere in the ballpark.

I turned the big 40 last month, and still game daily.
The problem I been having with the same old same old games. I mean really how many modern warfare era games can you release in 5 years. I need a challenging game to keep my long term interest Weather this is it...that remains to be seen as MWO has not reached it's full potential yet.

I believe that the phrase "dribbling wrecks" among others could be the flames referred to. You began by insulting anyone who disagreed with you...and you kept reposting it. If you're going to pack it in, do it. No need to tell everyone about it. Just go.

Im going to give them time, but if the implementation of an elo system on a game that doesnt need it is their idea of a priority, then I can pretty much guess the rest.

I don't see how you can say this game doesn't need an elo system. You ever drop against a premade? Its pretty much a pug nightmare. So far this elo system has given me some pretty intense action on the battlefield. I've had numerous close and exciting matches and win or loss I leave the game thinking. Holy space jesus batcave zeus! That was ******* cool.

This is what I don't get. You say you hate stats and elo but you sure are damn concerned with having low stats or low elo. I have to assume that you want to be bigbadharv man on campus slappin the **** outa noobies and waving your testies in front of their cockpits. Yet you don't want to face the challenge of becoming said man on campus.

Maybe when you grow up you'll come back to this thread and realize what a jerk you were in the opening, and how you basically invited people to come in here and snipe at you.

Or you'll continue life inside your bubble of smugness, content in the fact that the world is wrong, not you.

Harv,

I feel for you. I really do. And for the most part I agree with you. Unfortunately the world changes and what people are willing to accept in a product changes as well. You are correct that Elo never designed the ranking system for more than a two player game. In my time I have read many times that "Elo" does not work. However the name no longer really applies to what the stats programs do and even if they don't work those with the money like stats. Like many here I am older (50 in May) and have a different view on things than others because of that. I would love to see a game that is what I always dreamed the MW universe was, but don't see that happening here. In the end I will continue to play until something better comes along because I like big stompy robots.

Plus like they always say, it's still in beta. Things will change.

Now I know some of you are getting very angry at reading this, the trolls, the dribbling wrecks, the people who make games a struggle to play to those I say the following: You are the same person. I've seen you, talked with you and played with you across tons of games. You act in the same manner as everyone else in your bracket and anything and everything you say is very very easily predicted. The same distortion of facts, the same need to troll, the same need to bend reality to how you want, the same lack of depth, intelligence and taste is prevalent throughout all of you. I know you hate being as crap as you are. I know its hard to accept your limitations and I know the internet and games are a great way to vent this rage but know this, your life is only as horrible as you are making it. The further you get away from the truth the more terrible a person you become. There are literally millions of you out there, all the same, the same phrases, the same cliched personality, the same low brow and low standards, clogging up game servers and choking the fun out of what is meant to be entertainment. You are catered for and a lot of money is made off of you, that is the only thing you add to a world filled with wonder and amazement. Well done.

I was trying to be nice and ignore this, but you seem to misunderstand why people are acting the way they are. This section that you seem to be so fond of and quoting with someone else's quote is why people are saying you opened this thread up with flaming. You all but insult everyone else that disagrees with you and say they are nothing. They are all part of one group. You also splatter the rest of that post with 'look at me I'm so much better then the 95% of you.. oh wait i mean 94% because I somehow dropped in score... (That's because me and my bro got on  :Joke:)

As the saying goes, you attract more flies with honey then vinegar (unless you are after fruit flies, but that's another thing all together) If you would just let this section drop or if you left those post alone and not bothered to react to them the 'flaming' might stop.... Oh and that does go for both parties. Because he is perceived to be flaming doesn't make it ok to flame him back...

following on from this thread: http://mwomercs.com/...27#entry1952427 i posted on Sunday and after talking with friends irl I've pretty much decided to pack it in early.
I know I know, drama llama etc. but I do have good reasons for this.

I had been praying for a mechwarrior mmo for more then 10 years now....

....As is, its far too similar to league of legends in both marketing strategy and development. Chasing and grinding numbers that are completely irrelevant to your life. I'll keep my account active, I have a lot of stuff on there and ive got about 15 days of premium time left Ill use. Still feel like I've been kicked in the gut

No, you're wrong.

Catering to the dogs, as you say, is not short changing the community. What it is, is catering to a wide variety of players. The game cannot exist in a vacume, it cannot pander only to the elite. Well, it can, but won't be very successful only providing to a very small niche of players. What you need to understand, is that everyone is different, everyone has different playstyles, everyone has different skill levels, and in different types of games. Having something for everyone is not a bad thing, Piranha seems to get this. There's nothing about this patch that disenfranchises anyone, and just thinking it might doesn't make it so.

I'm on the same page with you that the game is somewhat pointless, the game doesn't look very fleshed out at all at the moment. As such, I can't really classify it as a 'video game', just a program with video game mechanics. I'm still looking forward to the Community Warfare patch, that's starting to sound more like what you and I are after.
