Well optimized mechs are well optimized.

This was also true for custom mechs in tabletop. Stock mechs were largely mediocre, and fared poorly against minimaxed homebrew designs. Customization is part of the game and it allows people to optimize. The goal of game balance in this setting should be to ensure that there is an interesting variety of cookie cutter builds (for example, the Splatcat vs the AC/20Cat vs the Poptart v the Ilya is an interesting debate for the heavy mech position - they each bring something different to the table).

My only complaint is that it puts new players in trial mechs at a decided disadvantage. I realize ELO is supposed to lessen this, but things like Endo Steel and Double heatsinks belong on 95% of designs.

I've been told that I was using a cheese build in an Atlas D with an ac2, gauss, 2 x ssrm2 and 2 med lasers. So I think its fairly much open to the opinion of the person who just got killed
