Catapults are 17.9 of the overall mechs seen, trailing only the atlas at 19.7.

No matter how good of a pilot you are, some mechs can get behind you. That is why you need to have more rear armor, even if you prefer to run less than most people. With only 1 point in each rear location you are asking for serious problems if *anything* gets behind you. Unless you plan to reduce your effectiveness to ludicrous levels by always staying backed up to a wall you need more rear armor.
But I can respect the idea behind the experiment, if not it's practicality.

No... that's an indicator that the Atlas wasn't paying attention and his teammates weren't covering him.
Seriously though, stripping already weak armor even further is one of the dumbest things I've heard in a while as that's where I would park my light/medium mechs and unless your buddies are covering you and you're hiding in the back as a missile boat you won't live long enough to know what hit you.

Why would they not? Why would they run around in front of it, into it's firing line, to that it can lumber towards them looking like it's going to hug them (until if sprays death out of it's arms).
Perhaps it's different in 8-mans as they are more organised, but as a pugger I rarely have issues getting behind an assault unless I'm in an assault too.

had I been in those 5 matches you'd have been dead 5 time from rear armor loss and rethinking your build.

It normally takes 90 damage to CTR kill an Atlas (stock armor placement). For him, it takes 65. That's only a 28% reduction in hit points. And it wasn't like he had the ability to turn and shake off enemies from his rear with a Joystick anyways.

I just want to point out that I and many other people actually paint mechs looking for weak armor when we're out-tonned. When I'm in a heavy or an assault, not so much. I just pick the spot I want to eliminate and focus on it. When I'm in a little laser-mech, however, I check for a weak point first. That means checking your legs and your back while looking for anyplace someone else has already opened up.
Something like your atlas has enough internal structure that my 3 medium lasers already have a long road ahead of them just destroying internals. I've got the mobility to pick any side of you in a duel and I am looking for the spot where I won't have to waste shots getting through armor.
As long as you have support or are backed into a wall (which brings other problems) you're ok but in a melee you're taking a serious risk.

ah, but i am using pedals... no difference in 'turning' time...
if you are thinking about torso twist - then my user.cfg gain is set at 12 (vs 8 standard) it means that i can torso twist as fast as a mouse

You are announcing it as well? Props to you for that.
