I can't help but look at this post and then look at your sig. Man that tournament really went to your head didn't it? "PGI certified top 10 pilot" - I mean really? Congrats, you can play this game entirely too much. If you kill someone just for accidentally tagging you, then you're taking the game entirely too seriously.

Thats the same as having some stranger slap your child and then have him tell you calm down, hes not even hurt, you're too serious. Its not about the damage, its about values.

Did't the devs say "if you get shot by a team mate, don't shoot back."?

It's not like that at all.

Seriously, people need to chill. I've met some great guys through accidental friendly fire. If I ever TK or if I cause team damage that isn't in the heat of combat, I always try to apologize.

I'm with Bill here. I've dealt and taken FF. I don't do it on purpose and I apologize if it's me. Although I think we all need to chill a little bit. I've had people get bent out of shape when I'm on an mountain on alpine blasting of my ERPPCs every 5 seconds or so. I haven't moved in forever because they aren't shooting back for some reason. I keep on keepin on and someone wanders up my right side and right in front of me while I've been there for a solid 2 minutes and have shot every 5 seconds for almost the whole time and at least a full minute of firing before he got tagged. He came back on me saying I was a TK and all that garbage.

So remember the flip side, if you soak up damage from a friendly and it's your fault for being stupid, apologize for that too. I'm not exempt either, but I also don't flip out when I get tagged being dumb. I know that when I walk in front of someone who is shooting someone else that he's not shooting me, I forced my fat mech into his lasers, not the other way around.

See you all on the field,
Kurshuk

FF happens, unless it's intentional I don't really care.

I do care when someone flips out because they ran their tiny little Raven between me and an enemy that I'm busy jamming full of UAC rounds. Hot tip, you can actually come in so low that I can't see you and STILL block my shots. At that point that's just you being a tard.

I had someone flip out on a night map. Group of enemy mechs coming between a couple buildings and I'm backing up and spraying away with UACs, of course they have ECM so there are no friendly or enemy indicators and with IR vision it's very hard to tell friend from enemy. No problem, nobody could possibly be stupid enough to run right in the middle of 6 enemy mechs right? Wrong, friendly hunchback goes rambo, gets ripped up by the enemy and comes running straight at me. He looks just like the two hunchbacks the enemy has so yep... He actually died from one volley, and pretended he hadn't already lost 90% of his mech by running into a horde of baddies. OMG U TK ME! Die in a fire my friend.

So you value your children on the same level as imaginary pixels in a game? Do you even have kids? Did you take your pills this morning?

Tldr, incoming fire has the right of way. Failing that, the less maneuverable mech with the smaller view port has the right of way.

I won't return fire unless the asshat is obviously trying to get a TK.

But man, I find it extremely annoying when noobs fire off their ordinance at the start of the match with friendlies all around them.

I had someone team kill me the other day because I put a few rockets in his back when he stepped in front of me while I was brawling. Which didn't really matter because the game was won anyway. Kids will look for excuses to get mad, just let them whine and move on.

Dumbest **** I've ever heard. It's more like someone who trips and bumps into your kid and apologizes. If you think someone who accidently puts a point of damage into your leg deserves to get team-killed, then you're ******* braindead.

If it's getting strafed a little in the heat of combat, who cares. I've even had guys alpha me as I come around the corner, presumably thinking I was an enemy mech, and say sorry - no big deal. Just them saying sorry makes it cool in my book, it is a game afterall and mistakes happen.

But to go back to the OP... I think returning fire just perpetuates the situation. No matter how justified you may be at firing back, it's almost a guarantee that he isn't going to take the return fire happily. It's like that commercial with the women in the parking lot... It starts out with a door ding and then escalates to a Destruction Durby.

I will, however, return fire if it's obvious they are trying to TK.

some MWO white knight decided awhileeeee back that it was his job to announce via omnichat "AFK MOVE OR GET SHOT, TEN SECONDS TO COMPLY."

i was making coffee in the other room, i get back and he's sitting there shooting at me with his medium lasers around my arms and legs, and there's a jenner running around flaming me.

i turn around and rip into the dragon with a 74 point alpha, do it again and get the kill. i spent about 2 minutes chasing that jenner down but in the end i nailed ihm as well.

i started the game with probably 65% armor, and by the time i manage to close to brawling range my team had wiped the other team clean up... 5 on 8.

still, it felt great.

You are just angry with me because you all know you shoot people in the back... how about calming down and behaving yourself at the start of a match(and after it too).

If you shoot a friendly, you should take the damage and you alone. That would solve all the mess in this and any online game.

Of course, because no one would ever purposely run in front of someone else to grief them right? :(

I agree with the OP that people should be more chill, but I disagree with the fact that he 'tagged him back'. If someone hits you the best thing to do is just to let it go, its usually just a simple mistake thats not that big of a deal. If they keep doing it I tell them to cut it out and keep my distance and report them (only happened once). If they TK me (I haven't ever had that happen though) I would report it and just get in a new match. Why escalate the situation by fighting back, you just make things worse.

People that are attacking teammates are either just inexperienced and doesn't know what their doing or are just immature kids (weather in mind or body), I'm not so sensitive to let it bother me. If you think that fighting back will teach them a lesson, well let me know how that works out for you.

I agree! its important to keep a level head in a friendly fire incident and hold fire. Especially with some posters on this forum ready to jump to infantile extremes... literally reacting as if someone had slapped their child. Its nice to see you advocating restraint though.

That said, cyber-bullying is a real issue these days, especially for young adolescents. Vulnerable individuals might have a lot of trouble coming to grips with a perceived "friend" firing on them, possibly even seeing it as an attack on their pride or self esteem. for them its not their armor being damaged but their fragile sense of self worth.
so remember. ALWAYS REPORT FRIENDLY FIRE.. even if you can take it, your lancemates might not.
