I agree! its important to keep a level head in a friendly fire incident and hold fire. Especially with some posters on this forum ready to jump to infantile extremes... literally reacting as if someone had slapped their child. Its nice to see you advocating restraint though.

That said, cyber-bullying is a real issue these days, especially for young adolescents. Vulnerable individuals might have a lot of trouble coming to grips with a perceived "friend" firing on them, possibly even seeing it as an attack on their pride or self esteem. for them its not their armor being damaged but their fragile sense of self worth.
so remember. ALWAYS REPORT FRIENDLY FIRE.. even if you can take it, your lancemates might not.

Read his post on the first page. You're quoting the guy that said he'll kill anyone that shoots him. I hope you're being sarcastic. And holy crap how did this get to cyber-bullying?

EDIT: Clearly a joke post. Sorry, my sarcasm meter on the internet isn't 100%.

EDIT2: That's f**king hilarious.

EDIT3: Pretty sure Chavette is trolling the **** out of us. Or he actually is insane.

Seriously, people need to chill. I've met some great guys through accidental friendly fire. If I ever TK or if I cause team damage that isn't in the heat of combat, I always try to apologize.

Same...

But some guys just deserve to die in an alpha strike..

Remember kids, as Smoky the Bear says, "Only you can prevent friendly fire".

I remember back in closed beta, was at a start of a match. I was marching forward in my Atlas then some Centurion cut infront of my path, bumping into me. He then stopped and when I pasted him, he blasted my rear armor and was yelling, "WATCH WHERE YOURE GOING YOU HIT ME"

I simply turned and stood infront of him, and said: "you really want to start this? :("

Edit: spelling

He not talking about friendly fire during the match, he's talking about the idiots that can't keep their fingers of the mouse buttons in base at the start. Once I'll let it go, twice and I'm killing your ***. "Once is an accident, twice is on purpose".

If I get shot once or twice, I'll deal with it. If someone follows me and keeps shooting purposefully at me, I will turn around and fill him with a bunch of tiny rockets and mass kabloomy woomy and watch him/her go all explodey.

I really can't argue against that, we all have our breaking points. But I still say the best thing is to simply ignore them and then report it. By not fighting back you show that you are clearly in the right when you report it, if you fire back it's much harder for support to tell if the person is just a jerk that needs to be banned or if it was just a bad situation. After all its easy for them to look up friendly fire, but its probably harder to tell exactly who fired when.

The best thing is not to shoot on start up. Period. Accidental fire in the middle of combat is understandable. I even understand accidental Team Kills such as walking into lasers or enemy dies and you get plastered by your team's LRMs. However, being stupid at start up because you want to see a pretty laser light show is not excuse. There are team killers out there that love to AC/20 you right in the back so unless there is an immediate apology I am to assume there is a team killer in play.

Their are a few other reasons. I never intentional attack a teammate, but sometimes at the start of a match I've accidentally fired trying to set up my weapon's groups. After I did that once I always turn away from any teammates. Some people accidenlty fire because they are alt-tab'd waiting for the match to start and when they enter the game it fires their weapons. Some people are trying to see how their heat will respond to their weapons so they know how to set up their weapons groups, ect.

True. But unless they are new to the game they should know better. I also turn away from team when regrouping weapons and I definitely make sure everyone is clear when testing heat levels of a weapon group. I know why it happens and understand accidents. However, that player should understand that if he accidently shoots someone twice and suddenly has four mechs Alpha strike him that there was a reason for it.

Have you watched some of the idiots, not one or two shots but repeated shots from the base to the tunnel. That's over a 400 meter stretch. It happens in all the maps and all to often. weapons grouping is one thing these guys can't even claim that.

I shoot Ravens accidentally quite a bit, they have a habit of straying in front of my firing line, and I often have to fire considering I often have weapon groups on three and four, and I need to ensure that I can hit them from the standard position without looking at my keyboard, especially after dropping in a two-gun mech where it's simply "CLICKCLICKCLICKCLICKCLICK". Not to mention I have a coffee on the deck slightly higher than the keyboard so I can drink when I die (I typically play from 8pm until 12am, so the coffee helps, when uni starts I won't be doing that as much considering the two and a half hour public transport ride), and if I spill it, it goes all over the weapon hotkeys. Liquid is slippery, people. If I'm trying to clean it up, I'll shoot. Normally, people laugh at that, but it's a regular enough occurence.

However, back when I did my first Stalker (2x Large Pulse, 2x SRM6, 2x SRM4), I maxed out rear armor. Why, nobody knew, but in close-combat, no matter what mech I'm in, I typically take fire from allies who can't hit the target in front of me due to the Stalker's bulk. By maxing rear armor, I could keep my rear armor intact, although damaged, if I took fire from a teammate. It also saved my life in a suicide charge against a damaged Atlas - his teammates shot at my ***, and not only did I survive, the Atlas got steamrolled by a 60kph Stalker.

*Edit* Forgot the word "hour" in the public transport ride, derp.

I run into people's weapons all the time. Thats my fault. Same with collisions. Its the repeated back shots at start up that get annoying. Mostly people pew pewing their weapons off and firing at rocks, and sky, and buildings, and apparently their buddies too.

I think that there should be a score penalty for friendly fire. If we lose xp and money for killing a fellow team member, then why can't our friendly fire damage be subtracted from our endgame totals? I wonder if we even get credit for damaging other teammates. I've seen jerks whose every other shot into a brawl hits a teammate. There should be a line that indicates how much of our damage per match hits team members. It can show up in red below the regular damage number on the CBill and XP stats.

An even better idea is to give suspensions to the a$$holes who don't check their fire. If someone gets too much TK damage in a certain amount of time, they're suspended for a day or two.

I got friendly fired at the beginning of matches before. Normally i have no idea who did it, and type in all chat something like WHO JUST DID THAT! I mean seriously, who alphas at the start of a game? They stripped off half my weapons in one shot... Needless to say they did apologist, and i just moved on... They said something about having to click into the game window....

I guess for me it would just depend upon if they apologize or not. If its in a fight, fine, whatever. If its at the start, and they don't apologize, then ya, I MIGHT just unload on them...

The worst offenders are the LRM spammers. Hint: If there are a TON of friendlies around the target, STOP FIRING LRM'S!! Your spamming to try to get that one last kill shot, and it's NOT acceptable. Hit me with them, because of your spamming.....be prepared to take an alpha strike in the cockpit.

Heh, we had a game a few hours ago where one of our team mates accidently Alpha Striked one of our other players in the back. I gotta give it to the guy who got hit because he was a good sport. His reply was. "I'm not going to need that back armor anyways." :(
