But since then they have become... Annoying?
Ya I would have to say annoying because once you hear that incomming you have to take cover and wait for the sound of those missiles impacts. I rarely get hit by them but it's really game flow breaking having to go to ground when they start flying. Then you have to figure out where they are comming from and flank around to that point ...it's just so damn tedious.
I guess if the intention is to deny open areas to combatants then LRMs are working as intended.
I don't dislike them or think they ruin the game but they really get in the way of how I like to play; which is trading lasers at point blank range.

Well, fighting in open areas isn't a good idea even when LRMs aren't a factor. Just gives their teammates a nice clear shot of you. Even when you're in a brawl, you want cover around you so you can limit the how much incoming fire you're taking. I'd rather a building or hill take that Gauss slug or a half second off that large laser. At the very least, I'd like to have something at my back so I know at least I won't be taking SRM salvos or AC/20 shots in my rear. Really doesn't matter what FPS you play, open areas tend to be a killing field.

The AMS, I think it gives out your position. I hope there is a way to disable it when you don't need it.
Once your AMS starts to work, your Position or that of one of your Teammembers is already clear. The hiding thing is maybe good for an Scout, sometimes.

people are griping LRMS are OP now, just wait till 8 people all take AMS and then we hear "LRMS SUCK!"

yup and even then we had the qq lrm threads (because it took :effort: to group up and overlap AMS fields of fire) which is why LRMs got the useless nerf and why they removed the ability to fire indirectly around august and ppl stopped using them a while.
Its funny how people say people who use LRMs dont want to work or use skill or learn2play
Its the people who hate on LRMs that in my mind dont want to work or have skill in this game. Or learn how to play it for that matter

Essentially, ECM provides a colossal advantage at very little cost that eliminates some play constraints altogether. It's not enough to say "play better than the other team." That's not a balance suggestion.
Until we get some pre-drop lobbies or mech select, ECM is broken.

Really why should I have to worry about all this "smart play" and tactics when I can just shut off all enemy missiles for the whole match for so little effort?
Until you fight against a missile boat with buddies like I do, and then your ECM counts for nothing. AMS always works.

- Smart LRM using teams will spread their teams out to about 200m to avoid the whole "get close to the LRM user"
- Using cover is great but you've got to come out at some point to deal damage (see above)
I was in a match last night in Caustic Valley and I was seemingly the only one using cover and standard anti-LRM tactics. Sadly, the other team was nothing but LRM boats. Even the damned Raven 3L was carrying LRMs. The end result of the game was me (Awesome 8Q) pulling just over 400 damage and the next closest person doing 150. Everyone else did less then 75. The opposing team ranged between 900 and 400.
I'm not crying about LRMs. But the way I see it is this: If you need ECM and cover to cancel out LRMs while needing more ECM then the opposing team to cancel out their ECM and needing as much weight, if not more, to cancel out their weight advantage, then there is something wrong with the system.

Funny thing is, I don't need ECM to avoid missiles. Next time I run my Stalker and get LRMs fired at me, I'll FRAPS it so I can show everyone how to dodge missiles at 45kph.

Not really 7 mechs with AMS chop off a lot of missles.
......ECM D-DC tend to get tagged and mangled.
Yup
Course good piloting will beat any amount of ECM or AMS. But thats a taboo to suggest in this community, everyone is a monitor-licking "casual" player so we have to make suggestions they can comprehend and use without having to think about it.
