If you use the bright while/yellow square on the left (of both images) as a reference, you can see that that squares above and below it, as well as the horizontal line it occupies, are all still the same, simply flipped upside down. Using that as a reference, you can see that the top 1/3 of the the squares in the new images are still the same, just flipped.
My guess - given that there are now more squares, and a higher resolution, is that it's a collage, composed of hundreds (or thousands) of smaller images, that will slowly zoom out and clarify as the timer counts down.

But...it's May... not August.. we shouldn't see the first hints of them for another 2-3 months.

Plus, it's not like this is the first time that a 100+ ton design has came out. The original 100+ tonner was the grandfather of the Clan Tech Stone Rhino / Behemoth.
Also, it's not like this is the first frankenmech. Even MWO has used one of these (Cataphract), so I think we really may be looking at the first 100+ ton `Mech in the game. By my count, I see a PPC, an AC of some sort, an LRM 15, 8 Medium Lasers, 9 SRM-6s and 2 Machine Guns as well as a hatchet.
Want to get really nasty? That hatchet already does 30 points of damage per hit, so let's put Triple Strength Myomers on it and up the damage even more.
Now, who wants to pilot one of these bad boys?
Ahhhh Nice lol And that is scary that it can be built >_>

If I remember correctly final push to make the Clan Invasion happen when it did is when said Comstar Vessel wandered into Clan Space and was captured. Comstar knew of the Clans long before anyone else did, and August is when the arrive in the Periphery. August is when the public starts getting rumor of an invasion.

By my calculations, it will reduce the ARTEMIS thread spawning to once every 10 minutes or so.

Outbound Light encountered the Clans in... 3048 though.. so the timing of it being clan related still seems off to me.

Yes, but it also lines up with E3. I feel like it is something bigger than just "mech #12", and the only other thing is first glimps of what they have in the store for the Clans. Just a different idea than what I have seen thrown around so far.

If they want to sticky that's fine by me. I'll be updating every day with the new pictures. I enjoy the conversation we're getting on this.
These little things are why I'm truly excited for the game. PGI continues to keep interest peaked and people excited through the use of teasers like this. As well as helping the community stay on its toes, it also shows that we are a very knowledgeable player base!
But shush!! Hopefully Paul won't find out

I like the theory about the 'Unseen' coming back as their big E3 announcement...
