A: Sure, when we have a final direction. For now it’s pretty straightforward. Each region will have their own MWO server(s). Most players can create accounts on each server. Some regions will be locked and only available to players located in said region. There will most likely be no central account concept, where you are able to select the region you want to play in. That’s the super quick high level.=451,924 Total Members this number is taken from the total number of people signed up to the MWO forum's which you have to do to make an account so hopefully if they indeed still intend to split the servers as stated in ask the devs 34 hopefully its atleast not for another year.

Then in the evening when my American clan buddies get on I can opt back for a decent experience.

I hope the latter if this is even implemented.

I don't see this as a money grab. There are other very real reasons to do this and why this is done in almost every other game like this one. The most obvious is performance. Ping and latency issues are drastically reduced the closer you are to the servers (barring your own computer issues). There are also political issues (China anyone), localization (voice chat??) issues as well as support issues (it's always primetime somewhere).
There can also be game play reasons. Community warfare and territorial control will be difficult if you don't have times when players of differnet clans can arrange to fight. Having a forced fight at 3am your local time sucks but would be required if 2 clans from accross the world fought each other.
People need to take a step back and look at the issue logically. Why has just about every other game that has reached this size done the exact same thing?

Fragment already thin population by use of servers.
Further fragment population through the option of 1st or 3rd person view (coming).
Further fragment population with ?

The main problem is that MWO does not have a large enough active player base to populate multiple servers yet, because the devs have still not stated when new servers will start to come online we can only assume its going to be this year sometime since they are already talking about it.
The second main problem is that people have invested alot of time and money into their main account and do not want to have to create new accounts to play on different regions. Also clan cant just make a "choice" on which server they want to be their main one there are multiple different varibles to consider and this will make clans and merc's to be forced to split their membersdepending on which region they are from who is to say they will let eastern Europeans play with Americans not to mention I am from Australia an we will not be getting a server any time soon or have enough Australians to populate our own server.

Live in central Canada, but have joined up with a few Australians when they were the only ones on NGNG Teamspeak one night. Options are always good .

But ofc this game got more EU players than from any other region. With a split you don't need to fear for our server, fear for your own. Not a problem though. If the US population get too low you can just move over and play on the EU server. Brilliant if I must say so.

I just hope they do not impose IP blocks between regions to prevent people from logging in to other servers. This is a common practice to protect regional partner revenues after licensing the game to them. Forced account transfer probably won't cut it for me.

Don't you bother, they've made a lot of bad decisions recently and it looks like there's more to come.

Most units have EU and NA members and we oftern have NA players in the Eu competitive matches and viceversa as its whoever is available at that time, it'd be impossible to run them with half the players on each server, and it'll be a cold day in hell I go and lvl up 30 mechs on the other server.....

There is no point in spending money on an account that I won't be able to use to play with whoever I want.
Maybe I should just start grinding a second account now instead?

Bring other server clusters on line, and ask the player (once) which cluster they'd like to be on.. and put the account there. (not dual-accounts)
No, I don't like how WoT handles it. Because I am in their EU server but I have people I'd've liked to play with on the US server. Guess what, I'm not going to grind again just to play with them.
Likewise here. I'm not grinding or paying for a second account just to get what I have on my founder's. Especially when I know there is absolutely no technical reason why we can't have global accounts.
I'll end up staying in the US server, myself, and I'll be very sad to see the euros get torn apart with the decision to leave or stay. And the almost certainly many "fatalities" there will be as a result.
Sigh. Regional accounts is a bad idea.
Oh, and forced migration is a deal-breaker. Don't. Just don't.

Pings and latency is only one advantage of splitting the geographical locales. The other is simply cultural. NA and EU don't seem to get along for the most part. Yeah, some of us have friends across the ocean there, myself included, but thats a rare thing. The fact of the matter is, there is a cultural difference that causes friction.
You don't have to stray too far from this thread to see some of the hatred between NA and EU regions already, just scroll up.
