but most of my Mechs aren´t colourful, but rather painted in a way that I think to be effective camo for a certain environment.
Reason for this is, that I hope that (especially under the effect of ECM and at medium distances) the camo might de facto increase the time that the enemy takes to target me by a little bit (well, occasionally even a fraction of seconds in which you can fire your weapons before being targeted may be enough ).
Of course the fact that you can only apply a single camo paint (and have multiple kinds of terrain) and the fact that, at the moment, you still have heatview as the most useful vision mode lowers the utility of 2real camo" a little bit,
but, after all, both things are supposed to changein future patches (it is planned making heatview much less useful and to allow us to specify specific camo for different terrain types)

If a person can't spend a few Cbills on ONE color, then that Is pretty cheap lol
Plus there are definitely tactical and psychological advantages of having painted 'Mechs In game.

Can somebody explain to me how an ultra tech engine cost a couple of million or a ultra high tech weaponry like laser and such cost less than a paint job. If my garage told me, painting my car would cost me half of the cars price ill probably die of a heart attack.
In my opinion the should charge like 1000 or 1500 mc to unlock the whole painting, like an editor and people would just love it.

75 - 150 MC for a colour, that´s what i would pay,no probs... 350, maybe 450 for a perma camo... sounds more reasonable to me...nice thing is, i don´t have to
btw, PC Gamer action is still up until 2014... ask your fellow teammates how to "buy" it

More seriously: If the camo were actually useful, it might be a bigger seller. As it is, the game engine only gives you color on a mech once its big enough. Spotting mechs far away on Alpine is dead easy, since they're all rendered as totally black at distance. Painting your mech bright white does nothing to counter this.

But then if it gave you a real advantage it would be considered pay to win. It is meant to be a cosmetical thing.
People always complain over ingame advantages that can be bought with MC, but here you and others are and say that camos don't sell because they are no ingame advantage. [sarcasm] With users like these, I really can't imagine what might have inspired PGI to create the first version of the consumables. [/sarcasm]
I'd never spend money on ingame advantages. On the other hand, a huge portion of my founders mc went to cockpit items and camos by now. There are very few game features that I like better than to be able to paint my own gear.

Maybe if you what a california tunning in your car, but if you just what plain colors or something basic it wont cost you that much.
Painting a whole car here in spain its about 1 thousand euros. thats like 1/6 of a very cheap car. And most of the price its not the paint its the hand work your paying. Here in the future i hope robots do for free jejeje.
But that dosent matter your paying for a digital color and a skin, that most games you can change it your own with a photoshop or comes with a editor.
And you tell me if this comes for free what do the devs gain to keep up the game. Well sometimes to create clients you have to bait them with things like "AND COSTUMIZE YOUR MECH FOR FREE" and stuff like that.

If we're talking about buying a new car.
And a car loses about half its value the moment you drive it off the retailers yard.
People don't tend to repaint their brand new cars.
Add those three points and your 1000 Euros come very close to "half of what the car is worth".
Besides, I clearly exaggerated there, but "applying some paint" is neither as easy nor as cheap as stated here.

"Most games" you buy in a box or via steam and pay 50-60 $ in advance. This one, you download and play for free, so they charge you for the "nice to have gimmicks" that you don't really need, like most other f2p games do.

Bait them to buy ... what ? If you want all the cosmetics for free, what is left for them to charge for ?
