TLDR: This is Merely a way to express displeasure with the games direction by not playing MWO for 48hours from 30/03/2013 Vancouver time

Hi all I am creating this thread with the intention of spreading the word to as many people of a way we can peacefully protest against the current direction that the game has been taking lately. The best way to do this is to show PGI our numbers, or lack thereof. Hopefully PGI moderators can appreciate that I am not trying to cause a flamewar and this is just me trying to express my right to protest in a virtual way.

I just wish to express my concern on the continued direction and how I and perhaps others don't agree with. Obviously there are people who DO love the direction that MWO is going. This thread isn't for you, I don't wish for this to turn into a flame war. All you need to do is keep playing the game as you are and enjoying yourself.

Nor is this a thread for people to be posting the usual detailed complaints on issues they are having, with the response of others being “Hey its beta”. He we are talking about the overall direction the game seems to be taking, and how it seems to be deviating more and more from the original dev blogs, and all the backflipping on things they clearly said they wouldn't implement/do. Also all the small issues people are having with the game that keep building and building to create a giant avalanche.

I am suggesting that we set aside 2 days where people who are of the like mind where we do not play Mechwarrior online, This will hopefully show a significant reduction in online numbers to PGI that it isn't just the forum naysayers who aren't happy. They may or may not really read all the forums that people post regarding their issues, but they will have to stand up and take notice when on these 2 days hopefully a large enough percentage of their usual “online users’ is absent.

If however there are not enough of us to even make enough of a blip to draw their attention, well we just continue to play this game the way we have squeezing as much fun as possible out of it until we eventually get fed up and move on due to the the increasing change in direction and the pile of little annoyances constantly building up.

I propose that we do a 48 hour strike of not playing mechwarrior online from 12.00am 30/03/2013 to 11.59PM 31/03/2013 Vancouver time. I have created a countdown here for the start and a countdown HERE for when the protest is over.

Hopefully this is more than enough time for any word to be spread to forum and non forum users alike and perhaps we can make a difference, or perhaps it turns out it’s just me and 3 guys sitting around with tin foil hats either way at least I will be able to have said at least I tried to make a difference.

The CORE issues I personally have are:
  • I now trust PGI as much as I do a Politician. It seem’s that you don't do what you say you will do and do everything you say you won't.
  • The overall direction so far is pulling further and further away from the original vision described in the early dev blogs.
  • Their is a lack of communication forthcoming on a lot of issues, we are told that a Command chair post is forthcoming for things, than months later that is still not eventuating.
  • Lots of other smaller things in general but I wont go into here as this isn’t the place.
This is really a simple thing and doesnt require examples, arguments or me trying to "convince" you. Using the knowledge you have of what was said about the game and what you are currently experiencing either you are happy or your are not.

***Addendum***
Perhaps my wording is really wrong as what does it matter what I think when I am asking if YOU are unhappy? If you need to ask that question then obviously you are very happy with the way things are and that is fine, I'm not trying to sway you either way.

Let me try and put it this way. Every game is going to have bugs and glitches, and need fixes etc, that is part of life especially part of a beta and i accept that and not what this is about.

Perhaps some examples of what I’m trying to convey:
Are you constantly buying MC to support this game, buying premium time & paint & baubles etc, loving every minute of the game, everything PGI is putting out you are absolutely loving? Great good for you, I support you enjoying your game and supporting the developer of this game that you love. Continue to play nothing to see here.

Are you a founder who has your premium but haven't activated yet because you are still waiting for X to be implemented, or you just are waiting for x mech. Or you are a new user and bought some MC and bought a few mechs but are in the same boat not purchasing more until the same as above.

Have you read official statement’s where something is said that definitely will or will not happen and then all of a sudden its completely a viable option to do the opposite?

Do you ever read developer updates/patch notes time and time again and give a big facepalm? do you find you have cut back on your play time drastically and only log on whenever there is a patch just to see if they have “FIXED” Z? Are you Frustrated with the lack of communication or the way communication is coming through from the developers?

Perhaps this is where you ask yourself whether you are truly happy or not? If you are unsure can you bring yourself to purchase a few $$’s on some MC to help fund the developers (generalising here, I of course do not know everybodys personal financial situation).

For those that think a protest will do nothing, perhaps it will, perhaps it won't. Do you same people go into all the other posts with people offering opinions saying what's the point of making an opinion, it won't do anything?, If you do have even the slightest of doubts what's the harm in 48 hours of playing another game to try and make a point going to do to you?

However If you think this will hurt the development or is counter productive show your support by buying some MC and continuing to play the game you love and have fun doing it.

Post your comments / thoughts and vote on the poll if you desire.

It'd be great if you actually argued about what bothers you about the game and of course removed that annoying color tag.

War thunder.... as broken as that game is favoring the Russians (reminds me of WoT) is far more interesting than MWO these days.

I do not like the direction this game is going either.

Sorry yes I quickly corrected the color tags after posting. As mentioned this isnt a post to discuss the specifics of what bothers you, as that will degenerate into a flame war of ECM is OP or its working as intended etc. This is merely what each persons personally feels about the direction without bringing into a war between all the possible problems that people have with the game.

I am not telling anybody to go in "any way" let alone "that way", I am trying to find out if a large portion of people are personally not happy with "the way" they think things are going and trying out a way to highlight that to PGI. If PGI discover there is a large portion of people not happy it is up to them to figure out what is wrong, and try and improve the direction through community involvement, Not for me to say "Go that way". I'm sorry if you missed something, by that statement alone perhaps you are happy with the road you are on and this thread isnt for you?

Maybe if you could pick a core issue it would be more helpful. Right now, this sounds a lot like Occupy Wallstreet.

You said yourself that the direction proposed in the Dev Blogs, which are well over a year old now, doesn't match the current direction of the game. Care to elaborate?

If you mean core game mechanics ie ECM/this is OP etc I'm sorry but that isn't what this is about. If you are "personally" not happy with the direction you are already knowledgable with all the issues and bringing them up is not necessary and just a rehash as there are already enough threads going over these issues.

With absolute sincerity and in a constructive way, not trolling, no snark whatsoever, I have to say it would be vastly beneficial to yourself if you were to describe what you are protesting against.

This just isn't enough information, its a little too vague. I know you don't want this to be specifically an ECM protest or a P2W protest or whatever. But you need to cite some examples of you're grievances. List a few things PGI said they would do and didn't, also some things they said they wouldn't and did. What direction do you feel the original Dev Blogs described? How is the new direction fundamentaly different? What Command Chair posts have you been expecting and not recieved? Go ahead and list off a few of the small issues. I for one would consider a sit-out like this, if I knew I actually agreed with any of the protests.

It depends greatly on whether the things they change are because:

"We have debated and decided that this idea should change"
"woah, testing this and no it's really really terribad"
"look at this cool new feature I thought up"
"the moneyguys said hurry up and make something functional"
"hloy carp the playerbase just lost their freaking minds"
"we totally are not capable of doing this part at all"

That's too many reasons to just have a generalized Behave Better PGI sit-out.

This game may not be 100% what I would like it to be, but I do not see the need to try and teach PGI a lesson (particularly when the lesson is so vague).

Honestly, I would like to see a month on month graph of active log ins in game since Open Beta, for two reasons. One to show if the player base in general is happy with the game and its direction and two to see if this protest will even register, should it go ahead.

There are things about the game which I'm concerned about, but not entirely surprised given it's F2P, but overall I'm having a lot of fun with it and very much adopting a "wait and see" approach concerning its future development. So far, the general direction has been positive, and the bigger picture is of a game that is fleshing out and coming along nicely.

Whether you like it or not, this game is still in Beta. That means "We're still working on it", regardless of whether or not there is an option to pay real money to fund that development.

I do understand your concerns and I probably share some of them, but I don't think this action will achieve anything worth while. Just my £0.02.

I'd just like to point out that IGP has PGI by the balls. IGP gave PGI the funding to get this game off the ground.

Remember the origional trailer way back when and how we heard nothing about it since? That was because PGI had the start of this and the license from M$ to make it, but not the funding to do anything.

IGP came along and said hey! We'll give you what you need to get started, sign this contract right here! We should all know where money is given out there are serious strings attached.

Essentialy PGI is employed by IGP to make this game, and PGI have to do what IGP says to a certain extent. Particularly with the game generating $$ is involved.

A better way to protest would be to stop buying things from the store, and lay out what you would buy from the store instead. You need to understand that it can work and everyone can be happy if they do things the right way.

A good starting idea would be to reduce the price of colors. Allow cameo/color profiling - example - set a green/brown skin for a specific mech on a specific map, which would encourage people to buy more colors/patterns as they are now significantly more usefull than they are now.

Going on a "protest" for 48hours is not going to make any sort of impact worth taking notice of. Relate to the occupy protests and how much they've changed things.

This won't change anything for a number of reasons.
1. Your post is way too vague.
2. Your proposed time frame is too short.
3. I doubt a large enough percentage of players are in agreement to the point where they will actually boycott the game and make an impact in numbers.
4. Starting with "This isnt a QQ Rage quit..." is a bad way to start your post. You shouldn't be trying to defend your post as not QQ or rage. It makes it look like it is, or otherwise gives it less credit in people's eyes. Your main points should be at the top, not the bottom since most people don't read past the first few lines anyhow.
5. The developers are making the game, not the players. They don't actually have to listen to you at all, but if they want the game to succeed they have to listen at least some.
6. Things change during development.

A protest like this is useless,..
If you would like to see something changed, you should start a petition/poll with some ideas you would like to see implemented, and start to collect 10.000 votes / likes or whatsoever..

The only thing PGI / IGP should improve is their commuinication / social / viral skills.

There is nothing wrong with the direction they are heading, they are developing a great Mechwarrior game, and they still need to fix / build / tweak a lot of issues / functionality,
but it would be nice if the playerbase could join in their progress/ ideas / plans / whereabouts / concepts / arts / etc..
