OK, so the community is divided, as the "Pro-Gamer" crowd are stuck on the whole "dude, the Urbie is crap and totally outclassed, so wtf does anyone want it for... doen't waste time on it", whilst our TT Nostalgia Brigade totally don't care and are all "Dude, screw "viability", we just want our lovable Trachcan of Death".

Well, I lean toward the latter, to the point I would totally pay for a Hero version, even if no other version was ever made. (Yeah, I probably should be on medication). To the point, I figured if I did some of the Heavy Lifting for ALEX, and knocked out a basic concept of an Urbie (yes dude, I would 100% let you steal this from me, no questions asked) as so

(sorry for the quality, I am in Mexico, about 3500 miles away from my Desktop, tablet, scanner, art supplies, etc....) * EDIT* ALSO, THE KNEE IS NOT REVERSED, IT IS SIMPLY ABLE TO DEPRESS A LITTLE FARTHER. THE ORIGINAL URBIE IN THE 3025 READOUT HAD LEGS WITH SOMEWHAT DEPRESSED KNEES TOO) I don't have easy access to art supplies, so fixing the kink is a little tougher than normal right now, but rest assured it has standard bi-form human legs.

And a few Ideas for making it more viable: (and lemme me know if you like any or all of the proposed ideas by posting their number in your posts)

1) Give it even more torso rotation than a Catapult, able to rotate 180 degree in either direction (but not true 360)

2) Make it the size of a Portly Commando (it IS only 5 tons heavier, and stocky... so maybe even a skosh shorter)

3) Give both arms crazy firing arcs

4) Better acceleration and braking than other mechs (it might not go fast, but it can stutter run better than anything, and throw off aim) along with great turn radius.

5) Allow it to double the normal engine upgrade size.

6) Jump lift off faster than a Spider, and a better jump fuel supply.

7) Allow for some non cannon upgrades like AMS and ECM (he might be slow, but good luck finding him!).

8) 3 Module slots, stock.

9) a Hero version mounting a much larger engine (maybe allowing our lovable garbage can to hit 84 kph?) (maybe based of my Capellan March "Police Special?)

and please post you own ideas for "tweaks and quirks" to make Urbie a viable trashcan!

VIVA LA URBIE!!!!!!

so, hopefully this brought a little of the R2-D2 people were missing back.

Version 3...... OK, this is to replace the tiny little pic with horrid details, stil not finished, but having enough computer issues to not care, ATM.

and edit again... was comparing proportions to a Hunchie, and while I like the somewhat sleeke look, it is a bit off, so I "sumo'd" a copy, to get your input on how to go.....

I luv all the designs but must say i want it to still be a bit more close to original, a mixture of round and square similar to the police one.

Still good ideas!!

Urbie would simply need to cheat the engine restriction rules to be viable. Nothing is bad about its hardpoint layout or anything, tons of variants. Being able to put a decent engine on it is a must however.

As far as hero mechs I voted 'maybe' because I'm not happy with the scheme of in-game content that absolutely must be payed for w/no free equivalent If they changed that, with literally any scheme they're comfortable with, I'm fine with it and probably would pay money for Urbiewarrior Online.

The Urbie should also have exaggered hardpoints IMO. Just two hardpoints on each variant would be terrible (most only come stock with 2 weapons). So, I can see the right arm having 2-4 ballistic hardpoints and maybe the left arm with 2 energy?

The Urbie should be able to outgun any other light in the game to make up for being a walking turret. Also, it should have a really fast torso twist rate to keep up with lights that dare try to circle around it (that would actually give it a legitimate role, yay!).

Well, trying to keep it inline with current art ideas from Alex. Like how he flattened the Jagermech from it's domey goodness (which for some reason, people are OK with Urbie being flattened, if for some reason it is one of the butchered versions of Alex's Jagermech, for some reason) And while not "round" I think the "dis-armed" version shows the basic shape an proportions are similar, just angled to match other art. (and of course, the CopMech is totally rounded, but I don't really believe that it would make it in game as such, though with the Urbie-Bobblehead already being made, anything is possible)

Fast Lights do what Fast Lights do, I see a different - but still very viable - role for slow Lights.

Any Medium driver outside Centi Ds and Cicadas quickly realize survival comes from skirmishing, letting the Heavies and Assaults take most the attentive Heat. Slower Lights, by virtue of their tiny size and apparent lack of threat, would surely do the same. Also, knowing you can't blaze circles that you THINK will make you hard to hit (hello State Rewind) would make such Lights play smarter. Decent map design (more of those 'only lights can squeeze under/thru here' bits), particularly in built up areas would further help the role.

As well as the Urbie, slowbies like the Panther would be epic!

agree, though they are gonna be totally dependent on JJs and Quirks to survive.

Urbie would die in many many horrible ways. Too little armor to take a hit, and not fast enough to eascape from that Atlas it bumbled into.

would be funny if it was in game.

But it would be so terrible....I guess it is possible, the spider did make it in.

Something I forgot to say is that since we don't use weight-based MM (just class), the Urbie really should be bumped up to 35 tons so that it can truly fit the role of packing more armor and firepower than any other light.

A hero variant with a RA beam hardpoint (or three) would be nice. The Kuritans had a variant with a big MRM-30 launcher in the 3060s - awesome firepower, but as a hero mech there would be cries of "Pay2Win!"

I like your sketches, but I can't help but feel that the Urbie would be useless on most maps, and would be more of a liability to other team players than anything else. I'll try anything once, but not if it takes dev time away!

That firehose under the left arm would break the game's balance in half! :)

No ****** urban mech in this game.

The mech is straight trash. Why bother adding a mech that would get destroyed in seconds against even the weakest mechs currently in the game ?

You can't make this mech something its not. The base model would have to be damn near the same as the mech in BT lore. Just like all the rest of them. You can't make the stats in the game make it something its not, just to suit your fancy.

The mech would be an enormous waste of a player slot on your team. I for one have seen enough useless people on my team already and do not want more of them.

Yup, glad it isn't generally considered a **** move to hijack a thread with other artists stuff. A link would have sufficed. Also, way to NOT contribute to the overall point of the thread, AKA ideas for making Urbie viable.,

tis the whole reason I laid out a "suggestion" post.. stock on paper, Urbie is toast.... but with the right tweaks, he actually is a useful situational mech (just the current lack of ability to choose the situation hurts ..... cuz no amount of tweaks make Urbie very useful on Alpine or the future desert map, which actually would allow it to flourish in city maps, while being a liability as a line mech (aka, just like in canon)

If I had the choice between Urbie and Spider, I'd probably take the Urbie. At least it has that "surprise AC/10 in your back" feel.
And can still jump.

And I really like the police version of the Urbanmech. I would also figure that if it were given more technological advances, stealth armour and ECM might also allow it to perform better in its military role.

Bishop, you have talent sir. Put together a portfolio. <S>

Drop the AC to an MG, ERPPC or Pulse laser add bigger engine and more JJs. Dubs and a longer lasting Urbie Platform.
