No ****** urban mech in this game.

The mech is straight trash. Why bother adding a mech that would get destroyed in seconds against even the weakest mechs currently in the game ?

You can't make this mech something its not. The base model would have to be damn near the same as the mech in BT lore. Just like all the rest of them. You can't make the stats in the game make it something its not, just to suit your fancy.

The mech would be an enormous waste of a player slot on your team. I for one have seen enough useless people on my team already and do not want more of them.

*yawn* way to totally miss any semblance of the point, and totally not contribute in a viable way.

ALL mechs are going to get quirks in this game, as the Devs have stated. The inability of people to understand those quirks, and use them to their advantage is why so many people are still fooled by pen on paper stats of mechs into thinking some mechs are not viable when they indeed are. I wonder how many of your teammates feel the same way when they see they have spawned with you?

The problem with your sketch is it looks too cool.

The Urbie needs to look dumpy and ugly as sin, otherwise what's the point?

Bishop, you have talent sir. Put together a portfolio. <S>

thanks Bro. I sorta have one in the Fan Art section, but it ain't been updated in a bit. I totally wanna steal the job of the dude over at Mechwarrior Tactics. SOme of the designs are OK (I really like the Jagermech there way better than Alex's version, which is surprising) But good god the man should be beat with a frozen fish for the steaming pile of poo that his commando is.

I have yet to play a single mech in this game that is not viable. I am attempting here to speak out against a mech I feel wouldn't be viable.

and my point is, with the right quirks, the Urbie COULD be made viable, at least in some situations. Just like several of the more popular builds are only really viable on certain maps. And with CW, choosing contracts would allow one to deploy it on the maps, like River city that those quirks COULD make it fun on.

I readily admit, you land on Alpine with it, you are in serious trouble. No matter how you tweak it. (of course, there are several mechs like Splatcats, YLW and such which are also somewhat screwed there)

I hope the devs will put the Urbie in the game. Maybe all the "we want the Urbie" and "Urbie rocks" and "Urbie is the best" threads will dissappear when this piece of crap hits the battlefield. I mean, it's not like the game has bigger problems then this...

I never played TT, but I want the Urbanmech. The only light mech I use is the Commando, because its the smallest and funneist mech in my opinion. I would easily buy a hero Urbie and master the mech.

Really a walking target?
Maybe if we could run around like infantry.
Or maybe freedoom fighters with srms.
All a Urbie is a footstool for an Atlas.

There would have to be some serious quirks to make the mech viable at all. It would have to have a fair amount of armor otherwise other lights would completely wreck it in seconds. While an increased engine size would not be necessary, it would have to have increased turning to be able to duck in and out of cover FAST, before it got owned. Adding a larger engine with a ballistic slot would be problematic. Especially when you consider adding ammunition. Stock JJ are a 60 meter range. So that would also have to be tweaked to make the mech viable in city combat considering its low speed. All in all, this mech would have to see serious improvement to make it useful.

While I'd love to see it as its such an iconic mech......

I don't think it will get much use but folks might buy it just to have it in their garage.

Most won't use it because:
1. Its too slow. It's base speed is 32kph. Thats a 60, engine. a 60...1.5t of engine space stock. so at best you'll never do more than 70kph with adding XL engines and removing JJ to maximize engine size.
2. It has no ECM (at least until you get to the UM-R80
3. Poor weapons loadout. People gripe about the spiders lack of usable hard points, what could the urbanmech likely get. 2 in the right arm (AC10/AC20/LBX-10 on the 3 allowable variants based on timeline : UM-R60, UM-R60L and UM-63) along with 1-2 laser points on the left arm.
4. the next range of variants doesn't come along until 3060 at the earliest, with the UM-68 and its MRM 30 launcher to replace the AC in the right arm.

While its a fun little mech and is probably more iconic than, or just as much as, the deaths head grin of an atlas, the majority of folks will not play it because to them it will be seen as a pointless and useless chassis.

Just my thoughts on the player base and this particular mech.

dunno, seems like we consistently get a large chunk of the player base clamoring for it, not just me.

without any dice rolls? the can be no miracle at 32.4 km/h for a light mech.

it would definately need speed cheat to be anywhere near viable.

Urbie as a chassis wouldn't be much different than a Jenner or Raven. It's just supposed to be slow. Which means a low engine cap.

As has been seen via the AC/20 Raven, it can be done. And the Raven 4x is pretty much the same chassis... Jump jet capable, Ballistic mount in one arm, laser mount in the other. Just mirror swap the arms.

I completely agree. There would be a large amount of people that would play this mech. That is why if it was to be added to the game, it needs to be done in a way that doesn't leave this mech a hindrance to your team.

Consumable Module idea: Militia UrbanMech Support - Enlist the support of one of the local militia (AI controled, can be told what area or object to defend from a Command Console) UrbanMechs.

Basically the enemy tries to cap and they get an AC/10 round from an Urbie hiding behind a building or hill if they weren't observant enough.

totally agree, hence the thread to hash out ideas to "improve" Urbie without actually changing him.

If they can make the Spider "semi" viable in here, and are going to give us a Flea (in what way has that mech ever NOT been useless? It isn't even a good choice for Cap rushing, as it has no armor, mediocre speed for a light and no ECM).. then I think it safe to say SOMETHING can be done to make Urbie work.
