You never know they may add the axeman or hatchetman at some point, both have big choppers.

Melee weapons exist in Battletech. The Hatchetman mech is a good example. For shields, there are mechs that typically have one arm that doesn't mount weapons that can be used as a shield. No such thing as a two handed weapon in the game.

In QnA 32, they said melee is something they want to do, for mechs that have hands/fingers.
In QnA 33, they said they have no plans to introduce BattleAxe or such.

They seem like GFs with bad hair days

If they don't exist in BattleTech, why would they exist in a completely BattleTech based game?

If you want gundam battles, go play gundam games

Uh, centurion?

Also, 2 things I miss: bombast laser, old gauss graphics
2 more things: vehicles (helis, jeeps, tanks, apcs), turrets

A thing I miss: A viable Machine Gun.

Seriously, every other weapon got buffed in the conversion from BT to MWO, but the MG got nerfed. Why?

All ballistics got a DPS boost, with the heavier weapons getting less than the lighter, from a 2.5 x DPS boost on the AC/20 to a 20 x DPS boost on the AC/2, but the MG only got a 2 x boost? And every other ballistic weapon got about 50% more ammo per ton and 50% more damage per ton of ammo, but the MG got a 90% reduction in ammo per ton and a 80% reduction in damage per ton of ammo?

Solaris VII does feature mechs with custom melee weapons and even arm-mounted shields. PGI has said they'd love to do a Solaris VII expansion eventually, and that they were going to hold off on adding hand-to-hand combat until then. That would include punches and kicks as well as hatchets and axes (and swords for those crazy DC pilots). Ramming will be back in once they get collisions working, and hopefully that'd include true Death from Above attacks.

LOL! Bombast + Jumpers would be the perfect combo!

And I, for one, hope they remain relegated to those other games. No MechWarrior computer game that I have played (every game in the series except MW1) has ever had melee, and it doesn't need to be added to this one. The only "melee" we need is collisions/knockdowns.

What are the arm-mounted shilds called. I couldn't find it anywere. I am also, aware that you can use your arms as a shield. I just can't remember seeing a Mech with arms much bigger then it's body from the side.

I know that critical slot splitting can let you split a weapons requiered critical slots across an arm and side torso. I don't know if you can split a weapon's requiered critical slots across both arms to make it two handed. Somthing, like the Sniper Artillery Piece comes to mind.

BattleTech, on the other hand had rules for
* Charging
* Kicking
* Punching
* Melee weapons (axes, swords, ripped-off Commando legs...)
* Death From Above

The devs have said collisions will come back with Charging, so we'll have that (and DFA). Kicking/Punching/Melee weapons have been rejected so far by the devs, but I still hold out hope that it'll be in some day.

These two statements are not at odds. They want to do but do not have plans to do it. I'm sure there are lots of things they want to do but can't for one reason or another and as such have no plans to do them.

It's entirely reasonable.

The BattleAxe referenced in that question is an older, obsolete mech, replaced by the Hammerhands, which was in turn made obsolete by the Warhammer. The question in QnA 33 is not referencing melee combat in any form, but rather older tech levels and mechs.

I forgot that a torn arm or leg can be used as a weapon. What fun that would be in a computer game. ;)

This thread reminds me of a new anime called Broken Blade. Good mech battles, not too long of a series either.

In Die by the sword you could use your own severed arm as a weapon.

The Hatchetman was always one of my favourite mediums; a bit thin on the armour side, but it packed
* an AC/10 with two tons of ammo
* two Medium Lasers, and
* a Hatchet that did (45 / 5) = 9 points of damage to the upper torso of a 'mech.
* Jump Jets, for those DFA moments ;)
