S!

rgreat, using your files and works a charm! Only difference is that I am using PostProcessing at LOW, all other in Very High. I think you get rid of the Motion Blur in cockpit with setting it OFF in game settings and in user.cfg the motion blur distance to 0, like these 2 commands. It is disabled in rgreat's user file already.

r_MotionBlur = 0
r_MotionBlurMaxViewDist = 0

Weird, but i'm still getting nasty blur when hit. What i'm missing?!
I know this can be disabled from ingame settings, but what is the correct config file line?

Maybe r_MotionBlurMaxViewDist must be set to 16 instead of 0?

SwetFX got pumped to version 1.4

Quote

Version 1.4
  • Adds the Border shader as a workaround for the bright screenedge forcing certain AA modes can cause
  • Adds the Cartoon shader that can make the image look more cartoonish
  • Adds the Advanced CRT shader that can mimic the look of an old arcade CRT display
  • Adds the Monochrome shader that removes the colors
  • Adds the FXAA shader as an alternative to SMAA for the few people that still prefer it. (only in DX9 for now though)
  • Improved the Curves shader so it can now apply contrast to Chroma as well as Luma (as before) or both
  • Improved the performance of formula 5 in the Curves shader (the simplified Catmull-rom spline)
  • Improved the Dither shader with the option to use Random Dithering.
  • Improved the Dither shader so now uses a subpixel dithering pattern. (Both when using Random or Ordered Dithering)
  • Lowered the default SMAA threshold to 0.10 so fewer aliased lines escape processing.
  • Fixed a bug where dark areas could on occasion appear when HDR and Lumasharpen where both activated at the same time.
  • The alpha channel is now cleared before outputting the image to prevent it messing with screenshots converted to png.
  • The SweetFX settings file now include a description field to help keep of which version the settings are for.
  • Improved the Vignette shader to allow you to create oval shaped vignettes.
  • Curves_formula 2 is now the default Curves formula.
  • Includes some notes on how you can make custom shadersp

I'm sorry, but as a n00b computer user, I have no clue what to do or add, nor do I feel comfortable changing any settings unless it's PGI making the changes. PGI can we get this added somehow when we get DX11 added in please?

It'd be nice if this was standard, I agree. I've only had it installed for a week or so now, but already I'd never be able to go back. It looks EONS better than the original.

does anyone happen to have a newer config file that they can share for the 1.4 to make it look that good again? Thanks!

Thx a lot.

Hmm bad news. I get CTD's now with the new version.

Edit2: OK found the problem. I cannot use your user.cfg (drops too much FPS), but your package messes with the original MWO files (as you mentioned in the opening post and I didn't read, so my fault as i did no backup). Is there a ways to restore the "factory settings" without a reinstall?

Could anyone upload a unchanged version of the "Engine" folder? This should fix my problem.

My package does not change any original files except for user.cfg, which is empty by default.
You can just remove files coming with my package.

In your case just remove "Engine\Config" folder.
If you also want to restore original film grain effect remove "Engine\EngineAssets" folder.

I think later i do a mod to config files to allow user use in-game graphics settings, while keeping general idea of the custom cfg.

That will keep mod low-end computer friendly.

hmmm, I'm trying to do some digging as well. However MWO is crashing for me as well with this new version as soon as I join a match.

Try using your old (or empty) user.cfg and delete the Engine/Config folder.

As rgreat wrote in the opening post his user.cfg (not SweetFX) is for high end machines only.

SweetFX on it's own without a changed user.cfg already brings a much better look to the game. It's more saturated and a lot sharper.

I have a AMD 8350FX 8core 4ghz, Nvidia 670-4gig, 16gigs of ddr3... This that not high end? I could run the original fine at 60fps soild... By original I mean the one that was put up for the 1.3 sweetfx with all the bells and whistles... **edit** Now without the user file or engine files it runs ok but the AA is bloody horrible just like it is with the AA in game turned up as well... I used the fx config file that was listed there as well...

Looking real good now with more vibrant colours and less of a grey haze over everything.

So basically this visual mod removes some of the crazy color filters the game has on some of the maps? Or does it just try to replicate removing them by upping the saturation? Either way, it definitely looks better in some of those screenshots.

Your computer is powerful enough.

Which variant of install you did?

If you installed complete package without modifying user.cfg - try to check out log.log file in MWO folder.
It should have all details on error.

If you used just SweetFX - usual type of error is to put some files in wrong directory.

New filters on top of the PGI built in filters.
