The thing about the Atlas is that lots of people that buy the founder's package will take the Atlas with it, simply to save themselves a ton of c-bills to buy one later if they decide they want one.

Guess I am a little surprised. Everything I have seen on these forums seems to point to Mediums and Heavies being the more popular weight classes. Still, it's easy to forget that the majority of people playing the game will be less familiar with the universe than your average active forum user, so I suppose iconic design/"bigger is better" factors will appeal to a broader base.

I think people without a lot of MW time will go atlas. I plan to actually start with the founders atlas because the c-bill boost should make it a lot more affordable. My f2p pick will probably be something smaller.

I voted Awesome. I know it has a good following as a favorite mech. Although i also believe there will be alot of cataphracts' in the game as well.

I'm pretty surprised by this poll. I thought for SURE that the Cataphract would be way ahead. The reason being it is a heavy design that packs a TON of different varients into it that are all quite varied and provide a lot of options when it comes to hitting opponents from varying play styles. Also the availability of varients with Jump Jets gives it even more flexibility.

But hey, I'm all for whatever people want to play. It's going to be exciting none the less.

I wanted to vote for an Atlas, but I voted for the Catapult as I like the flexibility the base model provides. I hope you can pick a variant as well as I would like to get a K-2 because I like to be in the action as much as possible. If not the base model should be sufficient for me as it's a decent missile boat with some bite for close range.

For pre-order people, the Atlas will be EVERYWHERE! lol.

For everyone else the Hunchback will be everywhere since it's a medium mech with an AC/20 and can take a few hits.

Personally I like the Catapult more.

I'd say Hunchback due to it's heavy armor and straightforward doctrine.

If everyone gets to pick their starting mech from a list. I suspect the Atlas will be nearly half of all teams. More armor, more guns.... sadly that's all most will see. I plan to own one, but much prefer to play 50 to 70 tons. Of the revealed mechs I will probably start with a Centurion.

There will be plenty of Catapults, though the Cataphract seems to be pretty popular here on the forums.

i voted hunchback, people wont want the biggerst target on the field , but the Hunchback also looks very human and deadly. I personaly will be rolling in my Raven or Jenner

I've flip-flopped a lot, but currently I am seeing myself in a Jenner to start. Centurion is one mighty sexy redesign, though.

Will definately try and be a Light scouter, until I realise that there is no room for those in the fights - something I hope the game will prove me wrong in, but its how it will be I think - unfortunately.

Most of us will probably aim for 1 Mech out of every weight class in the long run - Just heavy or assults wont make the weight limitations for a drop so you might stage 2 Asssults but the rest will/should be mixed.

Odd. No love for the Dragon? I voted for that one as it's nice and middle of the road. Good balance between speed and firepower. I'm defiantly going to get the Atlas with my founders pack, mind you, and will probably drive it more than anything else... but the Dragon just seems like a good balance. Catapult as well.

The poll asked which mech you thought would be most popular, which is why I voted Atlas. Peraonally I will start with a Hunchback, though will probably add a Cataphract fairly soon after.

Definately the Catapult. It brings heavy mech firepower with medium mech movement. Plus the 2K variant is the closest thing people will have to a Maurader or Warhammer. And the mech is so versitile that it makes perfect sense for a starter mech. The Catapult is the Jeep of MWO.

The second most popular mech will be the Jenner, and the only reason I say second most popular is because I think more people will want a heavy for thier first mech, but I am willing to bet almost everyone has one of these in their stable. Fast movement, arm mounted weaponry, jump jets. This mech has medium mech punch with (faster than) light mech speed (FTL joke).

I agree with this but i think in the begining there well be a lot of atlas pilots just because past games have been biggiest mech wins.
Once people try out the combo of a light scout and heavy brusier we well see more of a variety of mechs just my opion though.

Overall for the community, I am betting that a lot of the guys who haven't spent much time on Battletech/Mechwarrior stuff yet and don't really have a style will be attracted to the Atlas (maybe other assaults as well) and the Hunchback, mainly because these two 'mechs have a fairly simple role on the battlefield which is usually something like this: Walk up to enemy, pound enemy with my firepower until they die, move on

But, other than that I think that a lot of people will go for Catapult K2 for the ability to mount dual PPCs (personally I like lowering it down from PPCs since if you add in medium/small lasers as secondary weapons on that, watch your heat sky-rocket) and its versatility, since PPCs can whack enemies from range, but also have the punch to make a guy think twice before he dogfights a 'mech with them up close.
I think people will also inherintly go for the Dragon and Cataphract for the amount of unique set ups you can designs on those 'mechs. Hunchback might still draw people in throughout time because you can set it up with closer or longer range ACs and as such, making it a fairly versatile combat unit.

Hmm, I will personally grab the Catapult in my Founder pack, the Hunchback and Atlas are cool (Jenner is nice too, but it looks nearly identical to the basic other than a paint job and C-bill boost), but the Hunchback would probably be fairly easy to obtain in game with Cbills, and while the Atlas is a pretty nice 'mech, when I am in an assault I often have trouble using the machine properly, since I just love the speed. Another thing pushing me towards the Catapult is that the Catapult was one of the first 'mehcs I had seen and I really liked the design.
For my 'mechs after the Founders Pack, I will definitely grab the Centurion (I love the Centurion myself) and the Cicada, since the Cicada is slightly bigger than most lights, but it spends most of its weight carrying a huge engine, so I think I will like it (plus, the design looks pretty sweet). :)

I certainly hope it won't be a repeat of MW4 where you had to have a heavy mech just to survive less than a minute of play. In MW3 in Unlimted Ammo Mode, if you had some skill, you could pack a Shadowcat with two AC20s and go toe to toe with a Daishi. While UA is not strictly reality based (Battletech Universe Reality that is) it was alot of fun. If entire weight classes will be relegated to support roles and are essentially useless in heavy combat, which is the main attraction for me, then I'm worried. If the main battlefield is going to be dominated by Howitzers on legs, I think that takes away from the game. Along with all the firepower of large mechs should come exploitable short commings like lack of speed and how quickly the torso rotates. They are afterall massive tonnage and getting all that weight moving should take some time. I want the possibility of humiliating an assault mech with a Jenner using jump jets, speed and guile. It keeps it interesting when the outcome between two mismatched opponets is never a forgone conclusion. If that winds up being the case it would be great to see a clan that only allows it's members to use mechs below a certain tonnage regardless of what their opponets use because they're just that good. A return of the Light Horse Brigade if you will. Oh, and I voted for the Jenner if you hadn't already guessed.

I voted Atlas because the Majority of players have no sense of the Battletech universe out of some videos or games. So it's always "Biggest is Best" forever and a day and that's the Atlas.

Not sure how many will STAY there, but for the opening weeks it's going to be Atlas city.
