So i've read all the dev blogs on the sticky post and got a lot of info out of it. I did not, however, quite understood how exactly is the 'mech control going to work while on first-person mode without a proper joystick.

I am probably spoiled by MW4 in that it is impossible for me to play properly with the keyboard + mouse unless its on third person. I like to run parallel to my target or circle it while shooting it, and when i do that while on first person mode i always bump into stuff since my 'mech's torso is twisted all the way to the left or to the right.

I can't remember how i used to play MW2 and MW3 since i did it so long ago ... so i'm here to ask you. How do you control your 'mech while in first person mode AND using only keyboard and mouse? Light and medium 'mechs as far as i can tell rely on speed to avoid being killed, and on MW4 i can only seem to do one of two things while on the cockpit. Run or fight.

I am *hoping* that there will be an option to toggle a small PiP camera view from the legs so I can still see where i'm going when I'm twisted... which will be most of the time.

Keep your eye on the map and if your mech allows you to look out any sidewindows use freelook to confirm between weapon cycling sometimes.
Before you ambush an opponent make mental notes of the surrounding terrain so that you can make quick desicions on what to do once he starts figthing back without having to refer to the map or look around.
It is that simple. :)

I never used 3rd person and did just fine circle strafing with mouse and keyboard. its all about looking at the land before you torso twist, then firing, then snapping around your legs to match your torso once your behind them.

This will be epic. :)

Assuming the stupid single-pane cockpit design on the concept Jenner was changed to actually take advantage of the cockpit position on the 'mech, I'm going to love strafing with a Jenner.

At this point it's pretty much as Spleenslitta said, though I wouldn't call it simple. According to the info we have right now, we're going to have to rely on freelook and our spatial awareness skills.

And the #1 reason this game will support 3 monitors? So you can see out your side windows!! I hope anyway, lol.

This from one of the FAQs:

Q. Will MechWarrior have support for custom mapping joysticks/other input devices? (multiple device support?)

A. We have partnered with some of the industry’s biggest hardware manufacturers and will be doing our best to support all types of joysticks and flight systems.

On the map itself is a GIANT arrow showing which way your legs are pointing. On the map is also a giant cone showing which way you're looking. Also on the compas on the Hud it shows two vertical arrows pointing at each other with a line connecting them which shows if you are to the left or right of your center and by how much. Its very easy to control.

You are the pilot inside a very large, heavy and powerful mechanized robot.

You don't want third person view anymore, that was playing a game through some video screen, not a pilot of a robot.

Furthermore, a joystick, will increase immersion(the feeling of being there and operating the vehicle) over a mouse.

Change 'Free Look' to left control, hold down while weapons are recycling, sneak a peak out the side of the viewport to make sure I'm not going to run into anything. Return view to target to fire weapons, rinse and repeat as necessary. Not that hard.

We all have the same issues to deal with. Personally, I just keep my situational awareness high and I do fine. You cannot just walk into combat and think FIRE FIRE FIRE FIRE FIRE. If you choose to focus only on your opponent, then odds are you have already lost, because either terrain, or that ambush 150 meters to your right are going to be the death of you. Also, how is a joystick any different from mouse and keyboard? A joystick does not grant you better vision or allow you to walk through walls.

Good point Corpsecandle. i found this simple in previous MW games, but it might not work out so well in urban enviroments since there might be smaller distances between buildings than previous MW games.
That just means i could get a further use for my old monitors.

But in open terrain? It's become natural for me.

I really hope there will be Third-Person View like in the older MechWarriors.

As for actually seeing where you're going, you mostly just have to know where your legs are going to take you without being able to see where you're going if you've twisted your torso my a wide margen and are circling your enemy.

A combination of map awareness, spatial awareness, minimap, and if it's really unfamiliar ground, sacrificing a chance to make a shot to turn back to see where you're moving.

That question standing on it's own here seems very strange.

Read DevBlogs and Q&A's. No third person. Period.

There is not!

Are you serious?

Look-up the word immersion for gaming.

Last I heard, there wasn't going to be; the reasoning for that being third person view could provide additional battle information by virtue of it's different camera angles.

Incidentally this may be one of the things that keeps a mech unique. If there's two mechs with additional loadout, player selection may come down to the view that's provided by the cockpit.

I'm not sure what the Joystick has to do with bumping into stuff you can't see. I can understand not being able to see in front of you because you are torso twisted. I'm hoping for a front mounted camera on another display myself.

I do not, unless its attached to a recon drone. In which case a lot of the time its not going to be where you want it.
