3Rd Person "soon" According To Mwo Twitter

We don't even know the specifics. It might be a point of view barely above your hull and barely usable, but that doesn't prevent the drama-queens to already claim they're going to quit.
This is an anthill that you all make look like a mountain. If 3rd person view is added, so what? The only thing it will change is that:
1/ You'll see a splatcat nose appearing a fraction of a second before he gives you a good shoulder massage of death.
2/ You'll be able to hide among buildings and see an enemy coming before he see you. sensors and allied intel sharing already permit that, but nevermind.
If MWO was a game where you can pop up, take a shot, and get back in cover before your target has time to react, then yes, it would be a problem. But MWO doesn't work that way. It takes seconds to get out and back into cover, and any decent player has ample opportunity to return fire.
In addition, there's a radar and HUD in MWO that share what your teammates view. So that trick's effectiveness is going to be blunted further.
And anyone claiming that it won't be a sim if there's anything else than 1st person view need to take a good hard look at all the car sims out there.

As much as I am against a 3rd person cam during gameplay, the whole "third person = not a sim" argument doesn't hold water. Every flight simulator ever has a chase cam of some sort you can play with. It's the complexity and faithfulness to the system you're simulating that makes a sim game, and let's face it, the MechWarrior games have never been super complex to begin with. You have more controls than an average shooter, but it's nothing like, say, DCS Black Shark, where every switch in the cockpit actually does something as opposed to just being decoration.
That being said, I do think a third person gameplay view a la MechAssault does detract from the feel of the game quite a bit. The devs were all about putting you in the cockpit and making you feel like you were driving the 'Mech as opposed to being the 'Mech, and having a chase view runs directly counter to that. Something like a time-limited UAV that you could use to gather intel, or a match replay feature where you could view it from any angle would be great, but I'd rather not feel like I was steering a little remote control robot.

I will just quit, if i wanted to play moron games I would buy a console.
What part of "simulation" requires or even implies being locked to a first-person view?

Let me ask you this. What in your life do you do or can you do in the 3rd person?
As for me I am against it but will try it if they add it but I hope if its a drone like I suspect, that we can shoot it down with our AA mechs.

"Paul lied" - what was that about?
Basically, back in November they were saying they're looking into the option of 3rd person, and trying to figure out if they can do it without negatively affecting gameplay.
Apparently this means that a single-sentence tweet 5 months later inferring 3rd person view may be on it's way, without any description of how it may be implemented, is tantamount to a bald-faced lie and deep personal betrayal of PGI's loyal, docile fanbase.

MWO has been something I've had almost 80 hours of enjoyment with thus-far and I don't want to leave it for the same reason I left MW4. I have no interest in pop-tarting around and destroying my immersion.
I'll keep playing the game until it appears. Once it appears, MWO will be uninstalled and forgotten about. So yeah, no more money from me. This is the biggest pile of BS you could possibly produce.

MechWarrior Online is, and will always be, a game focused on 1st person combat in Mechs. That experience is sacrosanct to the classic Mechwarrior experience.

Wow look at that. I cannot wait for someone official coming here and explaining this 3rd person mess for us.
They'll likely just lock the thread or send it to bird hell instead, and pretend God's in his heaven and everything is right with the world.

especially as the mods are pointing to that thread in locking other threads... maybe that was the wrong one to point to?

Agreed.
I see no way for them to implement 3rd person which doesn't convey some advantage over 1st person. It should not be and never should have been a consideration.
