One year damn well better be enough to get some entertaining form of community warfare released, or they can kiss this license goodbye.
The open beta tag is there to offset complaints about lack of balance, bugs, errors, design issues, etc. it is f2p, so they also have to produce a regular income stream. Hence we have patch after patch adding cockpit trash and color sales. At this point they're really damned if they do or don't. They NEED the tag to protect themselves from self important Internet reviewers, but they need to drop it to be taken seriously.
Everyone can be on the same page. Those of you who aren't worried have no reason to post, because all the op really suggested (politely or not) is that PGI could do with giving us some hard dates. Those of you who are easygoing shouldn't object to some hard dates. Yes, quotes get PGI yelled at. They also show some willingness for accountability, even if it is baby steps like hitbox calibration.
As someone suggested, PGI (not the community) came up with the idea to start the game day-for-day in a virtual 3049. That was both an incredible marketing scheme and a really cool game premise, but it is falling flat. We are now well into the Clan shadow war portion of the invasion, and we don't even have a galaxy to fight over...let alone hard info on how the Clans will be implemented for player access. I think a reset is going to have to happen, making 2014 the new 3050, but it would be nice to hear that from PGI.
We know it's a small company, and they're operating like terrorist cells and cannot simply move people, hire more, or do things faster. It probably would have been better to focus on back end designers rather than all the extras. Having finished the major back end work by now would have allowed them to catch up on premium items.
Very well said. I disagree on the hard dates though; more often than not, especially with a company like PGI (small, inexperienced, prone to delays) they do more harm than good.
I, and I'm sure many others, would be satisfied if we were given occasional "inside peeks" at the current ongoing development process involving CW and other features. Like the way SOE is very forthcoming about up-and-coming features long in advance, showing lots of concept art, WIP gameplay videos and talking a lot about their future plans and ideas -- without giving any hard dates.
But it shows progress
is being made.
