Because I want Mechwarrior as an IP to succeed. Success = More Mechwarrior Games.
If the success of MWO is the biggest obstacle, I will help in whatever way I can to help MWO Succeed.
Success != A bunch of Lemmings running off A Cliff.
If you *like* the direction that the game is going, you spend money, if you don't then you stop spending money.
You seem act like a parent who's child is into drugs ... you want to support the child, so you give them money, knowing full well they will just buy drugs. To you that is *supporting* the child ... when in reality, your supporting the childs drug addiction.
Same thing here ... so think before you act.
Personally? I have spent zero dollars so far ... after all, this is *beta* and NOBODY should be spending money during a BETA. that's mistake 1 from all of you, or at least a good number of you.
There is already a good deal of "Pay-For-Power" or "Pay-To-Win" in this game ... and it's starting to get worse. If it continues to get worse, PGI will never see a dollar from me ... or maybe just a few bucks for additional bays, but nothing more.
I personally don't have an issue with a 3rd person perspective option ... at least not the idea of it. If it's done smartly it could be decent. It all depends upon how it's implemented and what the trade offs are for running in 3rd person.
Frankly, the FPS model really doesn't work in this venue. All other FPS's that I can think of work cause you can "spin" quickly. There are no other successful FPS's that I know of where you can't instantly look around. Allowing a 3rd view would solve this issue without having to change the dynamics of how mechs move / twist.
Anyways ... the point is withholding money is good, if your doing it for the right reasons ... and giving money is bad, if your doing it for the wrong reasons.
Just stop ... think ... then give or don't.

You said it much better than I did.
I've been playing MW and related games since MW2 but that doesn't mean i'll blindly support any game just because the Btech IP was languishing.
Make an informed decision. What Syllogy is advocating sounds like worship.

“There’s no point in acting surprised about it. All the planning charts and demolition orders have been on display at your local planning department in Alpha Centauri for 50 of your Earth years, so you’ve had plenty of time to lodge any formal complaint and it’s far too late to start making a fuss about it now. … What do you mean you’ve never been to Alpha Centauri? Oh, for heaven’s sake, mankind, it’s only four light years away, you know. I’m sorry, but if you can’t be bothered to take an interest in local affairs, that’s your own lookout. Energize the demolition beams.”
Does this situation seem reminisce of the Vogon to anyone else?

Although they were Overpowered a bit, LRMS SHOULD be dictating the pace of combat over any other weapon. Doesn't mean they have to NUKE mechs in short order, but there is a reason LRMS are an exceptionally common weapon on many stock builds.

Do the right thing and vote with your wallet people, until the devs start keeping their promises and start working towards a good, balanced mechwarrior game rather than a cash grab.

It's sad but honestly, that's the truth, hence the addition of the 3rd person to bring all the DLC buying COD crew in here etc.

And I had just picked up $100-worth of MC last weekend for the sale. So I'm still spending money.
Does that mean they're more inclined to listen to me than someone who hasn't spent money in a while but has spent money in the past? I don't think so. Because as long as you've proven yourself to be willing to spend money by having spent it in the past, you'd theoretically be just as valuable as someone spending it today, if not more so, because you may be ready to spend more where as that other person has just spent money and likely won't spend again for a little while.

While I hate the 3rdperson garbage, it goes far deeper than that. Major features that we were promised are still missing (CW, DX1, voice comm,), or were removed (knockdowns), and even now, still only have two near identical game modes with nothing more in sight. On top of that bugs have been around for months are still around (glitching textures anyone?) . And yet, with all that has been promised, what gets worked on? Things they promised they wouldn't add like consumables and 3rd person... They wasted good development time on breaking promises, rather than fixing long outstanding features?
Btw, while you don't have to play against 3rd person players, choosing not to will put you in a smaller queue; given how bad the Elo system is now, having less people to choose from is not good, for either side. It will be made worse once the regions get split.
It is all of that, that makes me pause and not want to give them more money. I feel betrayed they went back on their promise on 3rd person, and even more upset that other features are shelved while they waste time on it.
Oh.. and just wait.. weapons will not ballance in 3rd person like they do in 1st.. just wait until the devs have to deal with differing complaints on ballance..

Scary man, scary.
Reminds me of a saying "Money talks, bullsheet walks."
If you are paying them money despite not liking what they are doing they won't give a damn about your complaints.
The only effective way to get a business to do anything differently is to withhold money until they do what is needed to get your money.
Companies are basically soulless beasts that do what ever it takes to drink your blood. Don't make it easy for them to take your money hold them to higher standards and you get the game you want instead of a giant festering pile of mismatched design ideals and promises that are compromised because they think you the core player base will keep on paying regardless of what they do.

Frankly put, the reason PGI isn't listening to you is because you already stopped spending money, and they need to exponentially increase their sources of income.
You don't understand how people work. These people, who put 100 dollars into the game a month, are what's called whales. They're made of money.
MWO has a LOT of old men, with way more money than time. A lot of whales. PGI is actively working to make these people mad, when all they'd need to is add some muh immershun elements, and that cashcow will keep on giving.
