Or, given that the vote was going in the other direction and then changed relatively abruptly, it reveals that some obsessed individual is out stumping to everyone and their grandma for votes...

People will run away as the last mech, people will use it to grief on purpose etc etc.
I'm not against the actual TDM part, its just it will cause more problems than it will cause benefits atm.
In a small arena like in Solaris, you don't have the problem of griefing as the goal is to be the last survivor. At least in the FFA mode......
What I think would happen if PGI were to release a new mode called TDM that is just assault without the bases, is that not a week later there would be posts complaining about griefers, and then suggesting ways to stop them as others have here.
All of which are fairly dreadful, like the one about just making the last guy blow up if he is running away etc......heh....
PGI's solution was to introduce 2 bases you could cap. Problem solved.

I would rather have a flawed version of TDM, than the current even worse flawed assault mode.
Assault mode isnt a solution to anything. Its just an equally flawed, different mode of play.

Then I gave it some thought - "While objective scenarios (A revised Assault and Conquest mode...) are more appropriate for military operations there are canon Deathmatch situations."
The most famous - of course - being Solaris VII. Outside of that, there are a few situations where destruction of military assets is the primary goal - the elimination of "Grim Determination" as a mercenary force, the capture or kill of several Word of Blake forces (dirty toaster worshippers they are...) and just about any Clan Trials.
With that in mind, I went from "I don't care!" to a "Yes, but..." with the "but" part being - TDM is not weighed as heavily for random scenario drops (Assault and Conquest both occur more often in a truly random drop) *or* the ability to select what types of missions you want to drop into is added. (Understandable why it hasn't been yet, what with only two modes at the moment.)
I also feel that there needs to be some kind of limitation to TDM so that the last surviving mech can't hide and camp for 5-10 minutes. A timer based on when the last shot was fired (which I've seen several times), or a cap point appears for the winning side to take if there is only one enemy mech remaining, or time limit victories going to the side with more total kills, or the side with a higher total match score of all surviving pilots.

The vote has been pretty much an even split between the yes / no (once the I don't know votes are ignored) each time I've checked.
Right now, as I write this post, yes is 47.75% and no is 41.50%.
So at this very moment yes are slightly ahead, but it is far from being a clear majority.
:edit:
And the sample is just 400 votes so far...

Having an "I dont care" option is disrupting the %. As anyone who voted "I dont care" will be playing 1 or both mode anyway, making the "dont care" option pointless.

Only by a SMALL margin - not enough for the Devs to do anything about it. But good try.
Didn't read through the whole thread so I don't know if its already been said, I've won some games where my party is totally wiped out but one of my teams caps and the game is won by the skin of our teeth - some of the best games where the battle might be lost but game is won.
Even the most obtuse of players can appreciate that kind of win.

Yeah man, still NO.
Not enough to sway the Devs. Sorry.
There are enough people to say 'No'. Seriously, you wanna **** off 49% of the player base who don't want it.
The Devs won't pull the trigger on 'DeathMatch'
Until Solaris.

yea man... you realize it still represents over half the player base right? I believe the devs will find this important.
Half the playerbase?
Only about 2% of the community ever visits the forums, and many of them disgruntled looking for a voice to complain.
The forums are the voice/outlet of the minority.
Although i don't agree with TDM, i think it could be in the game as its simple to make. With that said, lets not inflate this thread so we dont get this one locked too

Sure, it might splinter the community and cost loads of development time from PGI but Teralitha would hate it so I'd be happy.

Which is why I discounted them and just compared the percentages of the yes & no votes...

204 votes, just 31 more than no (at the time of this post) does not "represent over half the population".
Needs more votes in the poll, and the difference is tiny.
FYI you want a result like this for mouthy bragging: http://mwomercs.com/...s-poll-revived/
Although even that could do with more votes... but it had significantly more than this poll has so far. But more importantly it has a clear majority in one option.

Hey, easy there...
...some people would never know what it's like to get a "like" unless they did it themselves. Don't deny them the pleasure entirely.

It's amusing when people make these foolish assumptions or insults. In reality there's 74 in my Inbox right now from others from the last few days. It's usually 10-20 per day, from others; not mine. Last week I let it sit uncleared for close to a week and it broke 200. Remember, uneducated assumptions=foolish.
