I still don't understand how account lone wolf/house/merc corps mechanics will work. Will I be able to switch from being a merc corp guy to a house guy and back again based on my subscription status all on one account?

I've never had a problem with paying a subscription, but it would need to be flexible and I liked the idea of getting more rewards out of the system in terms of cbills, experience, etc., rather than it being required for a certain play experience.

sub based game =/= free to play. Cable isnt free to play. Internet isnt free to play. Cell phone isnt free to play
Your analogy fails outright

The point was that we were promised a F2P game. I PAID MY MONEY on the basis of this being a FREE to PLAY game.

Now that is changing? **** that. **** everything about that.

IT IS f2p. Why is this so hard for people like you to comprehend? The only part that would be "subscription based" is the MercGroup element. WoT does the exact same thing and it's still by and large classified as an f2p game. It's the same damn thing.

If I had to guess I think they will say House units can play for free but will have a group cap of 4.

Player run units (aka Merc Corps / Clans / etc...) will have a fee to setup but you can group up to a max of 4 for free. If you want to make an 8 or 12 man, the group creator will need to have premium time running (to unlock "extended grouping").

Lone Wolves may or may not be permitted to group but will also play for free. They will fill in any roster gaps a house or merc unit has on a given drop (i.e. Your merc corp has 10 and wants to drop in the 12v12 queue, so the system throws in 2 lone wolves for that battle to complete the roster for your side).

This is just my guess.

I have a one person guild in Dungeons and Dragons Online. There are benifits to being in a guild in that game. What benifits will there be for being in a guild/clan/unit here?

Interview said:

"We really want people who participate in this to be as engaged as possible. And we'll probably require them to have a premium time account, as a kind of dedication level." That premium time account can be purchased in quantities ranging from daily to monthly to bi-annually, with the 30-day pack costing $10.
When asked to define what the cutoff for "late summer" was, both Ekman and Bullock said "September 21" in unison. So it sounds like they're leaving themselves as much room as possible to hit 1.0.

I would like to hear from some of the Merc Corp leaders about whether this is a viable program. As in are you going to pay? Bombshells like these is why I haven't joined a group yet.

Yes but what do you fellow clan members think about it?

I'll pay to start a corp and if needed maintain a sub to keep it going but I don't expect any members to be forced to pay to play in CW or be forced to pay to be part of the corp. I have more than a few totally free players in the corp while others have run premium subs in the past or even purchased hero mechs.

I'm not seeing any support for this premium required for CW plan in Hell's Ponies. I don't expect to see any support for a system that is forcing players to buy a premium sub.

Blatant business practice is blatant. They turn off a ton of players, but the ones dumb enough to go along with it get leeched and hard. Normally I try to side with PGI, but this time I just can't. I'm not going to pay you leeches to play with my friends.
... but if you are a Steiner player, then you can play for free with your friends. This issue only affects the mercenary players, like me.

No.

PGI's decision to hire additional staff does not constitute a clear-and-decisive proof that they are now in full cash-in-mode and abandoning the player base. This thread is closed.

PGI, when the collective response to your business plans is this reaction:

You kinda need to rethink your stance a bit.

What if your friends are merc players, and you're stuck in a house because you're not buying premium?

It's absolutely not, and paying a subscription to access part of the game is in no way "Free to play" regardless of what WoT's creators would like you to believe. You can take PGI's **** and shovel it down your noise-hole without complaint because at the end of the day you didn't fork over 120$ to help fund what was supposed to be a free to play Mechwarrior Title.

DAMN YOU PGI!!

Of all the terrible terrible business decisions, this is the worst one yet. And that is really saying something.

That might happen, and it would create much sadness. I may go so far to say it would suck. Yes, yes I will go that far.

That doesn't help the hundreds of merc corp players that will be required to pay fees to keep their **** running, and have active premium accounts. Which is a lot like Pay to play in that it exactly IS Pay to play. Something that MWO was promised NOT to be.

So far (with any certainty) is a FEE, not the plural of that word... Anything else is just conjecture...

They mentioned requiring premium subscription accounts to maintain it. That is not a singular "Fee" as "Subscription" is generally based on a monthly basis.

These are the great houses of BattleTech.
"These guys participate in territory control in a more passive way. Their matches affect the universe, but indirectly.

Merc Corps. These are the guilds, these are the clans, these are the guys who come together, band together, fight together and play together and actually want to control as much territory as they can through their actions.

So a free player can't own territory is exactly what this says to me.

So guys, can I interest you in some MC ammo?

Just 20 MC per tonne of missiles or ballisitics (They will produce one less heat and have higher velocity)

maybe some coolant?
