How does one define a Good Game? I see GG's given a fair amount regardless of how the match went. I'll give mine: A lot of mechs clustered together duking it out. I find it was a good game if it was fast-paced, regardless of the outcome. You?

Edit: based on the replies, I feel that I did not make my request clear enough and for that I apologize. The request is: how do YOU define what a good match is? (the GG is just what got me thinking about what a good match is)

It's less of a statement like "wow that was a good game" and more of a common respectful thing to say to your opponent after a match.

What do I think is a really good match, to answer your question? A close one. Where the winners won just -barely- and everyone on both sides gave it their all.

gg entails that I felt I was in personal danger, or at least I felt challenge was involved.
I never GG after a landslide unless I'm near death.

Something that isn't a faceroll or complete fail for one side. Something challenging, where each player is evenly matched, resulting in an epic battle.

Yeah I find saying gg after an 8-0 victory almost comes across as an insult, so I generally just say it after a decent fight where at least a couple in the winning team bite the dust too. Or in some case when you have a nice hard-fought duel to go gg *opponent's nick*.

I don't GG much because the games still tend to be 8-1 or 8-2. But when it's close, I'll GG.

Or if there was a lot of friendly banter before and during the match.

OOOKAY, I think I need to clarify my request: ignore the GG part (my bad), Define a good match!

much like sports in school, At the end of the game each team forms a line and goes past each other and touches hands saying good game.

It is a show of respect for the oppsing team.

Does it suck for the losing team who got blown away, sure, but in the end it is JUST a GAME. it's not life or death and it's not some type of cash prize tournament.

Saying Good Game at the end of a game is something that is/was taught to people at a young age to be friendly, polite and show respect.

A good match is a close match. Doesn't matter how long it is as long as either side could have won.

As for GG at the end of a match.
Landslide victory: GG in team chat, your team did well.
Close victory/loss: GG in all chat, both teams did well.

I usually just say GG in teamchat now, too many people take offense at a simple courtesy.

W/o getting into too much detail,

I have to get that oomph when I'm playing a game(gameplay mechanics)

not to be bored shitless(story and questing)I'm aware MWO for the moment has no questing and a limited story for now.

and I have to feel things are convenient and not feel restricted.(UI , inventory etc etc)for MMO titles or similar.

MWO has not done any of that for me but then neither did any game for a long long long time, cept for Halo:CE

thats mine :P.

A good game to the victors is when they rout us successfully. I tend to now say good game privately to my team after we rout another team. I respond back to the other team only after someone says good game on their end out of respect and not caring to bruise anyone.

Btw, I think it's supremely surat-ish when people say "gg ... that was close " when it's like an 8-2 victory. Or when a non commander dies out at the first 2 minute mark, but say "Good game" as if they were a driving force behind a win.

I believe an excellent game is one where people shift and use the features of the map to get an advantage or to eek out a win after early losses. Mindless brawls are okay but a great game is like when you start at the E6 ridge on Caustic but have to shift to the 4 line cause they have it covered.... You get a few out of position, and they move to reinforce the 4 line, and you pull back to e6 to draw them in and....

Yeah, those are longer but excellent games.

A good game is one where I come out alive with 3+ kills and at least as many assists along with a hundred some damage per kill.

As a longtime StarCraft/WarCraft player, a gg for me is any time the outcome of the game is not determined by a network failure, bug, or cheater.

In VERY rare occasions I have thrown a temper tantrum when greedy or stupid teammates result in a loss. I can think of one particularly douchey and selfish 3L pilot, and one particularly obnoxious 4 man who refused to ******* cap the last pixel and instead farmed CBills until they died.

I like the ones that end 1 to 1... good stuff.

However if what you mean is a perfect victory, it would be a cap with no fighting whatsoever.

Close matches. Down to 2v2 makes for the best endings.

"gg" is like shaking hands at the end of the match for me. if it's ACTUALLY a good game, i'll take time to say so. Like "wow, very close. gg all", that sort of thing. That's my opinion.

Pretty much this. Its a platitude at the end of the game, just to say thanks for turning up and not being a douche. If it was actually a great game or whatever, you'd say "wp/well played" instead.

Then, there's a certain set of avians, whom, having embraced Internet console culture, will say "close game" in an 8-2 blowout. :P
