I, for one, am chock full off Squee at the contents of this interview:
Lone Wolf gameplay: Exists for those who just want to drop and play, and don't care about CW or the Larger Story.
Faction gameplay: For the roleplayer sorts, who want to be a part of something larger, but don't want the hassle/responsibility of being a part of a large autonomous guild of players.
Merc gameplay: For the player who wants to be a part of a large guild of players, to be a part of something entirely player driven, who want direct control of their destiny.

This sounds downright awesome to me. I'd love to do the "Merc Gameplay" style of play, but generally speaking just can't devote the time necessary to do so; scheduled events are out for me. But on the other hand, I want more than the aimless drop-and-fight we have now. I want a purpose! So it looks like Faction gameplay will be the way to go for me, unless I happen across a Merc guild that can work for me.

All in all, the interview sounded pretty damn promising.

So, a /hattip to our developers, and while I'm sure this will be lost in the Open Forum Warfare, I for one am even more excited for Community Warfare than I was before this whole kerfluffle.

So that's what he looks like... Interesting. Also, they spelled his name wrong. Poor Bryan E[c]kman! Thanks for posting this. Good find, very informative. Doesn't sound half bad, there may be a long future for this game yet! NOTE: Around the 5 minute mark, he talks about expanding the team of 50 to be almost 100% larger. That is GREAT news!

Edit: here is a link to a second video, also from MMO Attack, interviewing Russ Bullock. It's mostly concerned with the cosmetics, front end of the game, and what they have added and are working on, but it's a lot more easy to watch

Three tid bits I caught while view it.

Houses fight over boundaries, when a house controls a boundary they get a passive bonus.
CW Phase three the clans are introduced.
Phase two you can fight for your faction/corp.

as much as i know ill like this part of the game, i still wish Merc and House factions could also fight each other.

I mean its called COMMUNITY WARFARE right? So again... why is the community split? Yeah Merc units can fight Merc units and its a given that Houses go at it all the time but Merc units do in fact get payed to take on larger House faction so why cant we do it here? I dont get why we the COMMUNITY are being split in this manor. I have friends that are in House factions and id love to be able to fight with them (under their contract) or against them if my Merc unit is contacted to take a world from the House faction they are in. That will never happen under these Merc vs Merc and House vs House only perimeters.

1, A snipped of info came out, and it caused rage, rightfully so.

2, It comes out its not exactly like that, and the real design wont be half as bad.

3, Everyone starts calling the ragers from point 1 names because they were wrong, and got riled up over nothing/incorrect info.


Whats funny: They raged about their current info, and didnt know everything about the full version. So why are you giving them trouble for it? Nobody knew it wasn't the complete design!

Had to get this out, thanks.

Well, Lone Wolf gameplay is just about the only way I will play this game since I don't like the way they are (supposedly) monetizing Merc gameplay... Not that it's how I WANT to play this game-- me not being a twitch-fps player means that the "core" feature keeping me at MWO is Community Warfare.

But I hope their business/gaming model works for them-- cos if monetizing Merc gameplay is not lucrative enough, they'll start monetizing Faction gameplay, then Lone Wolf gameplay... and then the game dies?

So basically CW will be like OGame. A bunch of numbers and a big map. Lovely.
The backbone of the game will still be the ever lacking combat.
We'll continue to fight on random maps, only in CW there'll be a few extra numbers on the EOR screen.

How can you be excited about that?

It's because their rage was intensely stupid. Basically, it's a crew of folks that goes insane whenever they suspect that there might be a plan for this game to actually make money, and they deserve to be mocked.

Back on topic: That interview has some of the most uncomfortable, awkward body language I've ever seen.

The interview also states that factions and their mercs have to work together to succeed. Glad to see that as the Devil Dogs are part of such a coalition.

Looks like the 'passive' benefits are predetermined for victorious faction players, but while mercs have to fight for the particular benefits they want.

It doesn't address what will and won't cost anything, but I'm guessing this interview was completed before we started thinking that we'd have to pay to play with our friends. (Yes, I know he said that's not the case on Twitter, but we still don't know WHAT in community warfare will cost anything other than adding 'tips' to the moderators for merc corps setups.)

Overall positive stuff.

I'd like to know who holds our planets while we're sleeping, though? I'm sure time will be telescoped, but still, invading a planet and taking it over shouldn't happen multiple times in 24 hours. We'll see, though!

Thanks for posting this; makes some things clearer. Did Bryan and the interviewer just combine to state that if you have no skills, but lots of passion, you should come work for PGI?............and they need 50 more people to have the game fully staffed? Well, good luck to them and I hope it works out well finding the "right" people for the jobs they have.

They got scared because in that point of time, they didn't know it isn't the final design(nor did you), is it that hard to understand? Of course it would of been outrageous, but the first coolant design was outrageous too, and it would of got implemented if they don't blow this place up.

About the body language you're right, but I think she wanted to pick him up, hope he got her number! ;)

So, you're saying it's okay to make fun of people who freaked out when they thought - and the article WAS worded to make you think that - merc players would have to pay to play with their friends and alluded to other pay-to-play stuff because they deserve it. But making fun of Bryan because of his body language is also okay, even though he's not hired to look good. Bryan is hired to direct the creation of a video game. The girl he's talking to is hired to look good, nod, and smile.

And yeah, I too want to know if Bryan got her phone number! lol

Though, Chavette, I don't think she was actually interested at all in what he had to talk about. She was doing her job. I don't think she was excited about the stereotype of wanting to pilot a pink mech. I don't think she wanted to play at all. She would have asked more interesting questions if she was actually interested in anything he had to say. And if Bryan was interested in her, he would have been looking at her more than the camera. If she was actually THINKING about what he was saying, she would have had a much more serious look on her face. I'm not knocking Bryan or her, but I suspect Bryan was concentrating very hard on saying the right things so he wasn't crucified here on the forums. And I'm not knocking her either. Generally speaking, explaining this game to most women would be an exercise in futility. It's not that they can't understand, just that there's nothing in it for them the same way you don't see MOST guys playing the SIMS.

This is a great find, however once again it is much to late.

It's not the content that is giving me 2nd thoughts. It is the form in which it is delivered.

Why do players have to search the far reaches of the internet to get this kind of information?
Why is this not in a command chair post?
Why can the MWO team not coordinate what type of information is released?

The game is great! no one is denying that, yeah it has is problems but it's still good.
However its frustrating, especially for a game IN BETA, that information is not shared so it can be tested by BETA testers.

Please get your PR team together guys! 3rd time the pitchforks have come out!

Also this clarifies how the 3 group system works, but doesn't say anything about the rage topic going on the above forum topic
