I don't think he's saying that at all, and if there is a separation of who fights who it will be faction vs. faction and merc vs. merc.
I'm going to guess that the worlds that the mercs fight for will be on the borders, but maybe not the WHOLE border. SOME of the worlds will be left for mercs to control. Perhaps something like the whole of the Skye march, and the Tikinov Commonality with be held via mercs, but that's certainly not all the borders Even then, when you look at the way the planets are garrisoned in books like the '20 Year Update' (FASA 1639) where it lists the disposition of EVERY unit in the inner sphere on the eve of the Clan invasion, mercs are scattered all over the place, and usually not concentrated in any one particular theater.
We will just have to wait and see.... damnit...
Regarding Marik and Liao. No, they really don't fight the clans. The Davions, yes, because they're part of the Federated Commonwealth. Marik and Liao provide logistical support, and Marik, especially, provides new technology and battlemechs becoming the 'arsenal of the inner sphere.' The Great Houses of the inner sphere are at peace during the clan invasion, which leads me to think we won't even be able to TRY to stop the clans. They'll have the clan invasion happen, then we'll have all the factions released to fight each other. Planetary capture will be fully implemented AFTER the Battle of Tukayyid.

the only reson world of warcraft dosent have like 50 mil players is cus it still has a 15 bucks a month sub. most people wont even pay that.
you throw 10 dallor sub on mercs/clans and this game goes out the window.
on top of that more then 1/2 of this player base dosent play F2P's they came here cus its BT/MW, go too crazy you may never see alot of these players still playing mechwarrior online
and so what if PGI is hard on cash that dosent mean rob the player base of all it has
i spend tons in hero mechs, paint, cockpit items and mechbays yes that still dosent stop the free players but thos free players might start paying if things are going OK, but there not
and the number one reason this games crashing is the player base is too small right now

I was only trying to say that this interview doesn't conflict with the posted article that caused the uproar. I believe that the big issue that most people had was with the potential monetization of Merc units. No harm was intended by that statement and I do believe that if you check, both myself and many others in the derailed thread were rather on topic and mostly polite. Please direct comments for those that were particularly belligerent at those that were.

Glad to hear that CW is still on the table, although I'm curious how big an effect the smaller merc groups will be able to have compared to the ones with 200+ members.

Bryan strikes me as the kind of player who will run off after a jenner the way he keeps looking around in that interview, so easily distracted.. Ok about to engage Alpha awesome. SQUIRRELL!!!!!
I'll wait for an official command post clearly stating what is real and what is not. This interview is "nice" but it doesnt change my opinion "at this time".

This has two very important knock on effects.
Elo match making becomes a lot more viable. > Players end up enjoying the game more. > This then has further knock on effects. >More players exist thus more will want to get Paint jobs and camo. > More players want to get hero mechs with unusual hard point locations which still aren't P2Win just pay for uniqueness. >PGI makes more money.
Or they can do
Monetize CW aggressively > Player population stagnates or drops > Game dies.

again... they reversed that decision. Or the rep[orter misquoted Bryan, it depends on who you want to believe.

Regardless, theyre not doing the thing where you have to have a sub to be a part of a merc corp
a lot of the direct offenders (such as posting of personal info and personal attacks) were actually the ones defending without logic or reason oddly enough
all i got too say is they better like MAN

I mean its called COMMUNITY WARFARE right? So again... why is the community split? Yeah Merc units can fight Merc units and its a given that Houses go at it all the time but Merc units do in fact get payed to take on larger House faction so why cant we do it here? I dont get why we the COMMUNITY are being split in this manor. I have friends that are in House factions and id love to be able to fight with them (under their contract) or against them if my Merc unit is contacted to take a world from the House faction they are in. That will never happen under these Merc vs Merc and House vs House only perimeters.
They specifically state in the interview that mercs can fight for house factions; I can't help but think the logical continuation of that thought - keeping in mind this is a short interview, not a carefully worded press release - is that Merc units fighting for a house would indeed be fighting alongside that house.
It makes sense from both a plausibility standpoint and a game design viewpoint.
They need to keep the pool of available players for a given battle as large as possible. So, Merc's fighting for a Davion contract would be fighting alongside Davion pug queuers and Lone Wolf pugs, too. That is supported by past things the devs have said as well.
Merc vs. Merc only sounds ridiculous and extremely unlikely.

The backbone of the game will still be the ever lacking combat.
We'll continue to fight on random maps, only in CW there'll be a few extra numbers on the EOR screen.
How can you be excited about that?
Of course it's a bunch of numbers and a big map. What else did you expect from an "empire management" level? That's all the Big Picture ever is in warfare.
The combat, though? I love the combat. It's why I'm here. I have tons of fun in big stompy robots blowing up other big stompy robots.
But with Community Warfare, I'll be able to have tons of fun in big stompy robots, blowing up big stompy robots of the opposing factions/to conquer worlds/to earn my pay/whatever, and there will be results from that.
They also state in the interview that successfully holding worlds grants passive bonuses to your faction/corp; including such things as XP bonuses, mech availablity, technology (Is this how they'll introduce Clan tech?). I'd assume that would also include c-bill bonuses and such too.
Yeah, I'm quite excited about that.

From both the girls, Bryan, and Russ's actions during their respective interviews there's clearly some sort of video playing to their right (our left)
