For the most part, PGI has done an excellent job absorbing input from the forums and responding. The first time i really became upset in any way @ PGI was about a month after ECM came out and they were still refusing to acknowledge that it was broken. That's about a month of us telling them "hey, this is broken." It took another 3-4 weeks before they owned up to the fact that it was broken.
Iv'e said this before and will probably have cause to say it again:
Community Warfare will make or break this game.
If CW is not absolutely astounding, meaning genre-defining, meaning this CW system puts other similar CW systems to shame, then we are all ordering drinks on the titanic.
CW must be incredibly awesome. It MUST be if this game is to have any staying power. This has to be the thing that makes people want to stay. The combat is great, but after a while it's just not enough...same with the mechlab. ALL the depth in this game is going to come from CW.
I agree with this.
Honestly though, I think PGI missed some major opportunities with this game.
What they really needed to do was give the community tools and the framework to create the game.
If they had made it so the community had the power to create events (perhaps even paying for that ability), the framework for player based CW (once again add a monetary component), and the ability to submit maps (thus taking away some of the burden from PGI.
They could have focused on things like mechs, equipment, balance etc.
My personal view is something like...I want to make a CW based on 3025. For a fee, PGI gives me access to tools like a map setup, lobbies, etc. Then I create my own CW. I limit the tech that's involved to fit 3025 and players can come join in.
If someone wants to make a mercenary company, they can pay a fee to allow members of their corp access to their paint colors. Add in decals for a price, etc.
If someone wants to join a house, they pay a one time fee, and unlock that color scheme for their mechs.
Stuff like that.
And you know what? We would EAT that up.
You'd have multiple CW's going. With people playing in all of them. With people paying all sorts of money for various things.
Because it engages us.
