Honestly, yeah... the speed is killing me, and I'm not a fan of the hardpoints config. So I've been having a hell of a time trying to find a build I like on any of my three.

What weapons do you like to use? I'd be happy to provide advice or suggested configurations depending on your preferences. I own 5 Atlases and have tried probably dozens of loadouts :)

That's a hard question. I know I'm not great at Ballistics, but trying to learn them. And find a Gauss or AC20 or 10 still nice at point blank.

Beams are probably my best. though I seem to have trouble holding them on target in moving battles, so Pulse Lasers seem to work best. Heat? Yeah, there's another issue.

Honestly, I think my biggest problem is mostly I'm still pretty new at the game (started a couple months ago) so I am more interested in new mechs than getting engines that didn't come with the stock builds.

Currently, my DDC has 2 LLs, 3 SRM6, and an AC20 (on top of ECM, obviously). Really, hard to go wrong iwth it. It's mindless slaughtermech.

My RS is always... all over the place. Though currently seems to work best as 4 MLs, a Gauss Rifle, and 2 SRM6. Even though that one I've played with more than any others. The builds I -want- to like (with 4 LLs or 4 LPLs) never seem to work as well as I want due to heat issues, even with just 4 lasers and double HSs. With this, though, I've done tons of builds, LRM dependant, no Missiles at all. Etc. Sadly, I find I always lose both my arms in the 4 LL/ERLL/LPL/ERPPC builds and I'm helpless. :)

And my latest, the D - well, I just got it done with its basics since I had XP from Trial Month. It's been bouncing between LLs or LPLs on arms, and either MPL or SPLs on the torso for some additional Alpha damage in close in brawls. And currently an AC10 on the torso. Tons of Heat Sinks. Sorta shying from getting Doubles here though because it's time to start saving for Highlanders, and really, once I get it through Elite (which could easily happen yet tonight with this XP boost) I'll have master on the other two instantly due to saved XP from money grinds.

(Current D build, since I was playing with it in Smurfy anyways - http://mwo.smurfy-ne...76cf247cf32bc84 )

If the Highlander drops tomorrow I'm gonna be sad...Since I just dropped 10 mill on a third atlas...

If only there was a way to buy mechs other than C-Bills, while also supporting MWO while you were at it...

I will be surprised if they implement the Heavy Metal without implementing the other Highlanders.

Actually, I think it's not a bad idea. Way to capitalise on that pent-up want for the mech. Would it generate rage? No doubt. Would it make some money, which is necessary to keep the game running? Hopefully.

Waffling on whether I will buy the Heavy Metal or not. I really want it, but over $30 for one mech is crazy in my book... But I want it!! So expensive though... And pink... But it actually says Heavy Metal on the Gauss rifle!!! So cool!

If it is released tomorrow before the other variants, which is my prediction, I will probably get it... maybe... ARGH!!!!!

I would have bought the "Nevermore" in a heartbeat though!!! Curious what the paint job would have been. Jet black with wings, feathers, and red eyes?

Hmm, okay, let me list a few of my standard configs and then comment on which might be interesting to you:

Atlas D-DC Loadouts:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...05c2be06adff28f - 3xLRM15 + Gauss + MLaser + TAG (My standard missile boat; you can also do 2xLRM20 which allows the config to be used on an Atlas D frame as well)

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...1aa707a98f7112c - 2xLLaser + Gauss + 3xSSRM2 (My only 'close range' build, but still packs a punch at long and mid ranges as well)

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b846c818961bbb1 - 2xERPPC + Gauss

Atlas D Loadout:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...3fbb0902d3e2aac - 2xERPPC + Gauss + 2MLaser (My founders mech, and the weapon layout I played since I started during closed beta)

Atlas K Loadout:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...974099a47e23ed9 - 2xERPPC + Gauss + 2MLaser + 2xAMS (nice against missiles, optionally drop a ton of ammo and half ton of armor to add BAP)

Atlas RS Loadouts:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...30713d718bc0f49 - 4xLLaser (I dub it "Fastlas" - fast, but relatively weak damage output)

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...3850ee6c1713529 - 4xLLaser + Gauss (Runs a little hotter, but the Gauss gives it long-range kick and more firepower overall; my slowest design)

Now the second D-DC design is similar to what you said you run, but with a Gauss instead of AC20 for longer-range, and with Streaks instead of standard SRMs (to help deal with light, fast mechs). It is pretty much my most successful build at the moment, since the missile re-balancing. You can swap the AC20 <-> Gauss without changing your missile setup, though, if you like the normal SRMs... but the lighter weight and smaller size of the streaks can give you more room for double heatsinks.

If you like beam weapons, though, it sounds like the RS is more up your alley... though you have to move away from the stock 300 engine to optimize it. You can get it going faster with a bigger standard engine if you want just the four large lasers, or even four large pulses if you really want (though I've tried that and it is quite hot). I prefer to drop a little speed, though, and go with four larges and a Gauss rifle. That gives you something to use as backup when you are hot (since it makes almost no heat). You could also opt for a couple of streak missile launchers for fast mechs, but the instant nature of lasers means those four larges should handle smaller mechs pretty well.

Now if you like four large lasers by themselves, an Atlas is a bit overkill size-wise. If you want to try and branch out with that, consider getting a Dragon (the Flame variant is great, if you want to spend some MCs and get more CBills in the long run). I have one of those with a big XL320 engine and four large lasers, and it is great for flanking / harassing thanks to its speed... but you definitely have to watch the heat, especially in the desert.

I have almost the same as your Atlas D, but I am using PPC's instead. The ER's run a little hot with that config.

I really hope the layout on the hero mech isn't as bad as it seems. Having everything on the left side will be a serious problem. I am really looking forward to the highlander being released.

Yes, it does look very lopsided, but compared to the stock highlander configs it offers energy weapons on an arm, which may be very useful in conjunction with the gauss rifle on the ballistic arm.

The base variants have the energy in the RT instead

This patch seems to be really light on details this week.

The first build that comes to my mind just by looking at the hard points available visually is 3 Large Lasers, 2 SRM-4's, 1 AC/10, 275 Standard Engine, Endo-Steel, 15 DHS and 3 Jump Jets. Should all fit nicely but the 'Mech itself is really lopsided. You will probably end up using the ballistic arm as a shield most of the time.

We have not yet been given the april Creative director Update. without it, we have very little confirmed upcoming content. We should expect more paint, more cockpit items, and a plethora of bug fixes and other items. We're also expecting repaintable hero mechs, achievements, new maps, highlanders, etc

Any word on ECM changes? Everyone ditched the LRM boats for AC20 boats.

What to expect for the April 2nd patch?

Why, large amounts of QQ and nerdrage, followed by rumurs, half truths and innuendo and the usual "the sky is falling" by Chicken Little Industries, just like every other patch, every week in between patches... Oh hell, like pretty much every other day in this lovely cesspool of anger, inadequacy and ******** that we call General Discussion.

But as always, thanks for your objective patch notes and updates, Redshift. It's nice to see some folks can remain calm and objective.

Actually the most compelling evidence for the Heavy Metal being released sooner rather than later is it's presence in the recent MWO PAX trailer, showing that the mech has already been completed http://massively.joy...es-new-trailer/

i just noticed that at 26 seconds in it shows heavy metal. it seem s to have 2xAMS on its hips. Is that true or just geometry of 'Mech?

Heavy Metal looks like it has AMS, Left/Right Leg.

Russ Bullock@russ_bullock
Another great patch for #MWO tomorrow including a pink Highlander hero mech. Yes you heard right and that's no April fools joke.

Dan@BigDamn_Heroes
@russ_bullock are we getting the rest of the Highlanders tomorrow too? Or just the Hero?

Russ Bullock@russ_bullock
@BigDamn_Heroes the rest come on the 16th

Here's hoping we can recolor mechs tomorrow as well. Otherwise, it'll be a boring next two weeks with no new mechs except for a hero you can't elite or tell if it's worthwhile before buying.
