Initially I thought this was a strange strategy, but after some reflection, I think it's fine. This is essentially in line with a game like league of legends that releases a new hero available for monetary purchase a week before it's available for in-game purchase.

I do still find it a bit of a dis-service to those buying it, as you can only get basic skills on it for a week - rather than being able to buy multiple variants, and work towards maxing them all out - but in reality, how much xp are you possibly going to earn in a week anwyays (unlikely that you'll get enough xp to push 3 variants through elite anyways).

Still doesn't mean you had to buy it.

The AH was actually the reason I didn't play Centurions. The idea of a totally ammo dependent mech really turned me off.

Umm I understand PTW just fine. The 18 can be purchased through GXP and actually is the most useless for the price in the bunch (I have 45,000 GXP beings you hate people who use MC for anything I felt I should share with you that I took 200k worth of xp of my hunchy from their last sale). The c-bill cost is minor if your to use them consistantly. Also sitting on millions of c-bills that won't be used again until the Blackjack comes out mechwise it gives me something to use my money on beings they removed R&R.

still doesn't mean that pgi had to remove a canon variant just to put in the CN9-YLW, actually while we're at it the questionable strategies started with the YLW (more to do with the removal of the canon variant that was just being used as a "test")

Does anyone actually own Highlander 2? haha had to be the worst Highlander ever. (not saying you guys said you did, you just made me think of that abomination)

I have the "Renegade Edition." It's heavily re-edited to fix some of the worst parts. It's still bad, but doesn't actually make the Highlander fan in me want to cry.

I will be actively hunting them as I fully expect them to be 90% poptart config. I'm not expecting much from the people willing to shell out 40 bucks for a pink mech either. On a positive note the jenner will be eating pink tears today.

Obviously if someone is secure in their manhood enough to not care that it's pink (or actively wants to annoy people like you) and makes enough money that they can spend their entertainment budget wherever they want, they must be bad at MWO. :P

You don't understand how pay to win systems actually work. A player can't afford to triple stack consumables every match without either prem time or buying them with MC.

Maybe you don't understand how pay to win systems actually work. You see, for it to be pay to win, they'd have to actually be worth a d*mn. It doesn't much matter if they money is real or pretend if what you get for it makes no noticeable difference.

So guys, anyone notice how the Heavy Metal has a bigger engine then the normal highlander, but goes SLOWER then one?

It doesn't. Normal Highlander goes 54 kph in tabletop only, because by TT rules its running speed is rounded up from 4.5 to 5. It happens to all mechs with odd walking MP (their engine rating = tonnage multiplied by odd number). In MWO normal Highlander will have proper top speed of 4.5 30-meter units per 10 seconds, or 4.5 * 10.8 kph = 48.6. Same thing with stock Atlases, they go 54.0 in TT, but 48.6 in MWO.

I love PGI just because they gave us the ability to endlessly reference this movie.

*runs to store to buy dvd of Highlander*

So long as noone references the sequels. You know, the ones which do not exist in any right-thinking universe. No, I'm serious. Noone better reference those. They're classified as high crimes against humanity for a reason you know.

There was only one.

Releasing the hero mech first is an EXCELLENT idea.

Frankly I would be fine if they released all mechs as MC-only for a month before including the cbill version.

That mech is DOA. The hardpoints won't make it viable to go head to head against a DDC so the only option for that highlander is long range fire support. I am betting 3 PPC and a Gauss builds are going to be common.

Can't fit 3 PPCs in the arm. Max is 2 PPC and a large laser. Still nice though.

Ugg. Terrible idea. 2 weeks is enough time to run around with only basic skills mastered. Thats 2 weeks of just about every mech having better speed/heat management/turning capabilities and so on. Only after the 2 weeks and a few more hours of grinding can you even think about getting Elite and Master skills which also double the basic skill values.

Thats te ereason why I am still debating on wether or not to buy the Heavy Metal now or not at the moment or wait and see what the otehr Highlander variants have to offer in terms of hardpoints as well as the above mentioned skill advancement possibilities.

No difference when they release a hero mech. You're still gonna pay MC for it anyway and you can't master it without the c-bill versions.

I'm fine with Hero Mech variants being released earlier than their Non-MC variants, it can be seen as a form of pay to reduce grind, except the grind is real time instead of cbills.

Some would say, "But the powerful Hero Mech allows extra special options and loadouts early to MC buyers", but then the problem would be with the Hero Mech being unbalanced and nothing to do with being released 2 weeks early. Sure, maybe it's a mech where the only way to compete is to buy variants of it(Cbill or MC). But then the problem would be that the Mech is so inherently imbalanced that everybody has to play it to win and once again nothing to do with being released early for MC-only.

Having said that, I do not disagree with the idea of hunting down *high*ly pink Highlanders just for fun :)

There was never a sequel to Highlander. The only ever made one.

Because everyone is going to leave that stock engine in there. LOL.

I ripped that POS out of mine so damn fast.
