I'm actually entirely fine with this as a strategy for earning money. I have no problem waiting two weeks for the regular variants to come out. Personally I think it's a good idea and a pretty unobtrusive way to get some purchases, and no one's holding a Gauss Rifle to anyone's head and making them buy one.

- Hardpoints:
- Left Arm: 3 Energy
- Left Torso: 2 Missile, 1 AMS
- Right Arm: 2 Ballistic

judging by the hardpoints, it looks terribad. heavily left-sided. take out the left torso and all it has left is 2 Ballistic on the right arm assuming that they didn't swap out the XL for a Standard engine. if it has an XL, then it's dead and no need to worry about the right arm.

I'm going to drop the P bomb its Pay2Win. "but it will come next patch". So what? next it will be "ok we are releasing clan mechs you can buy them for MC and in a year they will be released for C-bills" that's not pay to win right?

really? REALLY?

Yes, because punishing the players will help so much.

If your idea worked, the North Korean problem would have been solved by the North Korean people decades ago.

That mech is DOA. The hardpoints won't make it viable to go head to head against a DDC so the only option for that highlander is long range fire support. I am betting 3 PPC and a Gauss builds are going to be common.

No room for 3 PPCs.

I support all those who buy Heavy Metal as it will hopefully fund additional initiatives like more maps and mechs. Those are all good things for the game.

Yes, it would be a lot better if those missiles were in RT. The right hand has 9-10 slots depending on if it has a hand actuator so you cannot really equip a lot in there. Also every heat producing weapon is on the left side, which is bad if you go STD engine.

But... on the other hand arm-mounted weapons are good. Strap on the biggest engine you can (325), get jump jets and forget those missiles. 2 AC5's and 3 LL's should be quite good in a pretty fast jumping assault.

If only we could strap on bigger than 325 engines, this would indeed be a bigger Dragon with both being heavy on arm-mounted weapons.

I am disappoint.

There can be only one....good one because the others were bad.

The TV show was ok TBH.

I'll add my voice into really liking this strategy of releasing a hero 2 weeks or even a month before the cbill variants for all the reasons already listed (the biggest being temporary exclusivity for people supporting the game while not being p2w).

I'm glad they released the hero Mech before the other chassis,I love assault and heavy's,this way I can get the Hero mech and buy two other variants later instead of mastering 3 variants then purchasing the hero mech lateron to grind away on it.

This is what i was thinking about. I know lots of people who bought the 3 variants of the Cataphract to master only to buy the Ilya after it was released and grind it to master as well. Most people I know who did this (including me) kept the 3D, the Muromets, and 1 other. For me it was the 2X for a different build since it has missle slots.

This way, you buy the Hero and then buy two that you like on configuration and save some C-Bills. It's actually win-win here.

Funny you must of missed me disagreeing with consumables.

Did you do a 360 after? Most of you seemed to, I just put you in the camp of people that fell for the bait and switch after they "changed" the system.

This is absurd. Giving pay for play early is great. Doesn't make for pay to win like so many are complaining about and makes more money seems like a good idea to me.

It's a "normal" marketing strategy, I'm pretty surprised they didn't this before.. nothing bad about it.. remind that the buyers will have to wander around for two weeks with their pink benemoth without being able to elite nor master it out so they'll be somewhat sluggish and we'll all be glad about this.

Oh and remind to blow the LT.. 80% of its firepower will say goodbye ;)

releasing the hero variant before the rest is a great idea. they should have been doing this the whole time imo. it's not p2w at all.

What is it about the MWO community and punishing players for PGI's (perceived) sins?

Let them make a few extra dollars from players who want the Highlander early. What's the harm? So long as we can still buy regular versions with MC during that same month, that is.

I don't really have any problem with anything in this game, but it feels a bit unfair that a Hero mech is released before regular variants.

So today I am proposing

OPERATION HIGHLANDER: THERE CAN ONLY BE NONE.

Anyone sighted in the pink "HEAVY METAL" hero mech, we focus fire till they go down.

We scout for them we find them we kill them and spoil some people's day yes, but its IN PROTEST

It should be held back till another after the regular variants IMO.

Nah man, this is actually perfectly good, and a really good idea on PGI's side. Riot does the same thing, in a way, with League of Legends, by marking up the Ip(c-bills) cost of a new hero to 7800, but keeping its rp(MC) at 975, then a week later, they reduce the IP to match that of other 975 champs at 6300 IP. This makes it more appealing to spend rp on it, since 7800 ip is actually quite a lot, but doesn't prevent anyone from getting it on release day if they REAAAALLY want it. PGI is doing something similar, but now with hero mechs... except, no matter what, you coulnd't buy this particular mech with c-bills anyway, so it's a really good way to build both hype and bolster incentive for players buying MC. And, honestly, I would call it fair. They'll likely release the other variants in a week, and then you can buy them for c-bills if you don't want to spend money on it. You can get upset if you really want, but honestly, this is good marketing and its done in a way which really doesn't harm anyone.
