Yes, but its the immersion he is pointing out.

Battle Tech Aerospace flies into Map -> Drops the boom, big flashies, loud splodies. Doesn't necessarily matter if the damage is ineffective, at least it should look the part and sound good.

Call of Duty games have air strikes with decent explosions, don't they? In the multiplayer portion of the game.

OP video is actually a bad way to do an airstrike. Considering the level of precision of modern weapons (and I'd assume it'd be even better in the future), there is absolutely no reason for aircraft to be flying that low to the ground. Maybe PGI got it right with the not-showing-aircraft thing.

I'm glad they put it in the game, but I do hope they buff the visuals a lot more.

And I can assure you that IW/Treyarch makes maps on a fraction of PGI's map budget.

Point is, explosions for airstrikes need to actually look like, y'know, bombs going off. Which, given CryEngine 3's origins, should NOT be as difficult to implement as PGI appears to think it is.

NUKE EXPLOSION FROM MWLL>......


Its about the right amount of damage to boot.

It can still look awesome without doing much damage. Ever seen MLRS launch missiles? They blow up so much dust and smoke that it looks like a sandstorm. Even the jump jets in this game create more smoke and debris than the artillery strike. It's possible to make things look awesome without doing too much damage. Smoke, shockwaves and debris is a good way. Like this.

sure, they are currently underwhelming, but let's just not go from one extreme to the other... that is all :)

I'd be fine with the airstrike being an aerospace fighter with an LRM20 or somesuch, locks any unit in the area and fires a volley. a single LRM20 is not that big a deal and would still fire if unable to lock (aka dead strike on the ground).

Artillery is kind of a joke ATM though, needs to be a single long tom shell with a nice explosion.

regardless, the real clincher is that this is the same game engine..lol....Certainly cant blame it on that :)
