Prior to that I have done surprisingly little despite being a fan all my life. I have played the Mechwarrior games, mostly single player, but beyond that I was mostly hooked to the novels back in the 90s for a long time. And I picked up all of the Field Manuals and other publications that were out. I spent countless hours reading them and had a very nice collection until recently.
I guess you could say I was always more into the culture/history/story/geography of Battletech, rather than the hardware (the mechs). I'm so invested at this point that I've been looking for ways to use this brain full of Battletech knowledge and trivia. So Mechwarrior Online coming out is rather good timing.

Not quite the same as the table top, a slightly more 'watered down' version of the TT version, including simply for sake of completeness

Yeah, if you're listing just about everything else BT related then you should list the MUSE/MUSH/MUX versions as well which had their heyday in the mid-90s. Textbased realtime mechsimulators with ASCII maps which, as far as I'm concerned, gave a fare more accurate mechpiloting experience than any commercial game available at the time or, indeed, after (at least so far). They were great games, and all the more impressive for the fact that they were developed by volunteers who didn't get or expect a cent for their work, but did it because they loved Battletech.

I pactically lived in the Walnut Creek Virtual World and still have my battle sheet in storage somewhere. I am a Founders Member of the Virtual World Explorer League (1500 Matches). Sitting in the pilots lounge and watching the match highlights was a blast. NeonKnight is right about the scramble to get your weapons set up before you deploy. I also played in the Tesla pod version later.

I voted for various things but I'm pretty sure I also played Mechwarrior Mercenaries, which had rules for setting up a Merc company for MechWarrior/Battletech and also I played that strategic boardgame (name escapes me) a few times - the one where players control an IS House. It was a bit of a slog as I remember, but I always liked grand strategy.
