Hmmm, where does MechWarrior for the SNES fall into? Also the BattleTech CCG/TCG?

I checked the one marked "and other online communities". I am part of an online writing/sim game, set in an alternative universe 3085, its called Battletech-Mercenaries. Think fan fiction but more organized, and you buy equipment and earn cash based on how much you write.

Prior to that I have done surprisingly little despite being a fan all my life. I have played the Mechwarrior games, mostly single player, but beyond that I was mostly hooked to the novels back in the 90s for a long time. And I picked up all of the Field Manuals and other publications that were out. I spent countless hours reading them and had a very nice collection until recently.

I guess you could say I was always more into the culture/history/story/geography of Battletech, rather than the hardware (the mechs). I'm so invested at this point that I've been looking for ways to use this brain full of Battletech knowledge and trivia. So Mechwarrior Online coming out is rather good timing.

Started with mechwarrior 2 when I was young, which transitioned into the battle tech animated series when it first aired. That got me involved in the lore of the universe. It is downhill from there. Played Battletech CCG when it came out, until Wizard stopped supporting the game. Got my friends into the tabletop and then into clix when the Dark Ages came out until I joined the Navy in 05.

I had to vote for most of these. One I wish I could have tried were the mech pods, but they didn't have any in the Seattle,Wa area.. thing the nearest was in California.

Don;t forget the CLIX game for Mechwarrior.

http://www.miniature...CFaYaQgodmyc5WA

& the rules: http://www.sarna.net.../products/mwda/

Not quite the same as the table top, a slightly more 'watered down' version of the TT version, including simply for sake of completeness

Never had an SNES or DS, but every other format of BT I've played and probably still have in my garage somewhere.

What about Mechforce ... The Amiga game created by a fan. Probably one of the best fan made versions of the table top game. With any luck when Mechwarrior Tactics comes out I can finally retire my Amiga 500.

Yeah, if you're listing just about everything else BT related then you should list the MUSE/MUSH/MUX versions as well which had their heyday in the mid-90s. Textbased realtime mechsimulators with ASCII maps which, as far as I'm concerned, gave a fare more accurate mechpiloting experience than any commercial game available at the time or, indeed, after (at least so far). They were great games, and all the more impressive for the fact that they were developed by volunteers who didn't get or expect a cent for their work, but did it because they loved Battletech.

The Battletech VR Pods

I wish I still had my printouts from the Tesla Pods. I think at one time there was site that posted all the rankings of the players who ever played them. Not so sure if its around anymore. Leaving the pods and sitting in the pilots lounge ordering a sandwich while watching the battle highlights on the monitors at Wizards of the Coast was a class act.

The VR Pods...BOTH VERSIONS! Started with the ones outside San Francisco (Walnut Creek), Had a Blast. Played the TESLA Pod versions later, though for me and my friends it usually meant a 24 hour + Road trip just to play. Yes, we would Drive from Vancouver Canada all the way to Walnut Creek to play a few rounds of Battletech, then drive home...all in 24 hours. Of Course once some VR Pods showed up in Whistler (only an hour outside Vancouver) things were a little better. But with the VR Pods, nothing can compare to the frenetic CLICK-CLICK-CLICK of flipping weapon load switches in the initial minute of a 15 minute round of play.

I pactically lived in the Walnut Creek Virtual World and still have my battle sheet in storage somewhere. I am a Founders Member of the Virtual World Explorer League (1500 Matches). Sitting in the pilots lounge and watching the match highlights was a blast. NeonKnight is right about the scramble to get your weapons set up before you deploy. I also played in the Tesla pod version later.

I used to play in the VR pods in Chicago, back when they first came out. Those were a blast and a half.

I voted for various things but I'm pretty sure I also played Mechwarrior Mercenaries, which had rules for setting up a Merc company for MechWarrior/Battletech and also I played that strategic boardgame (name escapes me) a few times - the one where players control an IS House. It was a bit of a slog as I remember, but I always liked grand strategy.
