Finally done! I have to admit this mech is far too much to pilot. I know the small weapon set isn't to everyone's taste but it works well for me. Massive amounts of firepower in a surprisingly agile package. Feedback is most definitely appreciated! If you want to see more please subscribe on Youtube!

Nicely done. Not sure if I'll ever pick up a HM, but I'll have to see if I can make something similar with a cbill version sometime.

nice vid. how does it work with the xL enginge? how often have you died because of side torso destruction?

I don't have a highlander by myself jet.. but I'm looking forward for the next week :).

I haven't seen many highlanders that made excessive use of the JJs .. most players seem to pilot it as the atlas' smaller brother.

You definitely should give the standard Highlanders a whirl. The main difference will be that they will have missiles instead of energy weapons in the left arm. This devalues them somewhat in my view but I'll still get two more to round out my Heavy Metal.

Thanks! I've never died to a side torso with it - the arms are huge and the LT/RT hit boxes are surprisingly small. CT is easy to hit though and with all the jumping (that I at least do) I take quite a lot of leg damage. Still - better in the legs than the chest.

I love it, another option is to downgrade the engine to an XL300, and drop the jumpjets for 2 SRM6's with artemis, less agility but a hell of a lot more firepower. I've been driving it that way and I've yet to find anything short of a brawling atlas that gives me any real problems.

Although I'm thinking of dropping some armour and a heatsink then I can fit 1 JJ, which should be enough just to use to turn which would turn it into a mean brawler.

Love the options in mobility that the jumpjets can give you.

True,
What do you mean when you say "this mech is far too much to pilot"?

Well, I would have died a few times so far due to LT destruction, if I wasn't using a standard engine. People seem to just love to aim for my left torso because it removes more than half of the HM's firepower.

Nice video TruePoindexter,

As a Jenner player I am very cautious of the hitting capacity of the Heavy Metal. So much more than the Atlas. Although us lights do have the speed and agility to get behind the big mechs a good pilot of the HM that makes good use of their JJs can really ruin our round!

Cheers!

Interesting modifications! I would love to hear how it works out for you.

My face hurts from grinning/cackling too much. Face cramps are no fun. Don't pilot a mech 30 minutes after eating.

It's definitely a possibility and the LT is the place to aim for. I've not had a side torso death yet though. I've actually come close to losing legs though!

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. Yeah lights are definitely in a dangerous spot fighting a jump capable Heavy Metal. Much more so than other assaults. The arm mounts weapons make target tracking much easier.

QFT. Drilling through assaults and heavies in the CT in 2-3 salvos is way too fun. I too have been yelled at for cackling too loudly at night when playing my HM.

My build sacrifices a few KPH and one JJ for 2x SRM4s (no artemis) and 2 tons of SRM ammo. Currently almost 5KDR over 42 matches played. Watching your video makes me want to go play right now.

It's a lot of fun though the power has gone a bit to my head - I've noticed I've started piloting my much lighter mechs more aggressively. Results have been... interesting.

I wonder how much of this is me actually being a good pilot, or my low overall match count in assault class mechs leading to a lower than normal ELO rank, or fresh tactics just being in a new mech with different weapons and strategies which sort of wake me up and make me play smarter and more aware. We'll see as I reach 100 matches...

Indeed. I am suspicious whenever I get a string of overwhelming victories how much of that was my own ability or just poor ELO matching. I do wish ELO was a stat that you could see but I can see the wisdom in hiding it.

Ive since changed my build from the one i put above, cant link just now, but gone for a more rounded set up, less alpha but similar long term dps, and more survivable with a standard engine. Though with the one i put above i could blow holes in anything, i just tended to die in fireworks not long after. now using:

endo steel
double hs
1 jj

std 300
gauss (ra)
2 large pulses (la)
2 srm 4 (lt)
3 tonnes gauss ammo
2 tonnes srm ammo
fill the rest with hs.

Loving it just now, good for any situation, though when they release the other chassis and we can elite them for the 2x bonus i may go for a more heat dependant build.

I've lost the side torso's enough (rare, but it happens) that I prefer this build with a standard engine. I also like a bit more armor on the legs as they get hit very often. Lastly I found 4xjj to be enough (the 5th is nice, but 4 gets you quite steady). The 3xLL in one arm are an absolute terror, and this has almost the same heat removal. Lights can be an issue when they get close, but I suspect when I elite this, that issue will go away.
