Collisions were being exploited by closed beta testers.

A example being one light mech colliding with a second light in front of many heavy's for a quick kill. Colliding to break streak locks. Colliding to break LRM lock. FF collisions huge reason there gone.

We really don't want to put them back in.

THIS. There were teams that had Jenners with the express role of tackling other mechs. 2 Jenners could keep any mech in perma knockdown, and I'd rather poke mudcrabs up my bum with a burning stick than go back to that.

There are ways of fixing it. I'm pretty sure that they won't be fixing it though. They'll just put it in post launch with bugs and people will hate it.

Yeah melee is something I have been rattling about since closed. A lot of goofiness would get knocked off if I could just kick the crap out of the guy trying to push by.

In TT that was usually the better option when you had arm weapons, why chance the miss when you could just punch out their cockpit.

Hatchetman and Berserker..ah yeah baby! But, alas, Melee will be confined to Solaris only, at least according to PGI so far, and Solaris is a bit down the road still..*sigh*

What I wouldn't give to be able to KICK that damn Raven as it runs past my Jager or just reach and slap a Commando in my Atlas...*giggles*...oh yeah.

I hate to disappoint many of the people in this thread, but a Jenner ramming into your Atlas's leg at 95 miles per hour isn't going to repair your armor to full and give you a Mechassault-style Lostech shield for 30 seconds. The Jenner would certainly be worse off, but the Atlas shouldn't exactly enjoy the experience either. :D

No, the Atlas would definately not be happy about that encounter..but the Atlas would live and the Jenner would be salvage..and parts of it would be permanently imbedded in the Atlas' arse :D

When I said the problem was Jenners taking down Atlases, I didn't mean that they COULD, I meant that they could do it and keep on doing it over and over and over, as the Goon video makes all too clear. Yes, a Jenner moving at any speed at all and hitting an Atlas CORRECTLY should knock it arse over teakettle, simple physics at work there. My wife's Pomerian is MAYBE 10 lbs and I'm at 200 lbs, but he can damn near knock me over when he's on a leash and does one of those 'I'm a small dog with no mass' moves at full speed... But that same Jenner should be taking massive damage on those hits, once he could maybe get away with IF he's not moving too fast and hits high enough, two times and he's salvage, too high a speed and he's salvage, and unless he does a DFA, he's just going to annoy that Atlas in the process of committing suicide.

We want them back in but with a better mechanism that is not bugged

or quite so easily exploited

When it was removed we went up in arms, they said it was a priority to reintroduce it.

if this is what counts as priority. ...

You should know what that means by now -.-

If a jenner jumpjets and hits the atlas in the face, the atlas should go down. If the jenner manages to perfectly jam a foot into the atlas' left eye, the atlas should stay down.

I heard the jenner is instantly absorbed into the atlas which regains full strength and all the powers of the jenner, including its lightning fast speed. :)

NB: But yes, collision damage should affect both parties, but be representative of the size of each mech and the speed of collision. Interesting to see what physics they come up with.

Monday Night Football was getting lame in CB. They pulled collisions because the player base can't be trusted not to grief broken mechanics.

Removing collisons made the game worse but they had no choice. Hopefully they figure out a way to put it back in but I am not sure. My suggestion would be to make collisions extremely damaging to both mechs. Make it so if you are ramming someone you are only going to do it once.

If a mini repeatedly collides with a truck then the mini is in a pretty bad shape without too much damage done to the truck EVEN if the mini was travelling a lot faster. I know add real life mechanics to a video game "LOL"

why a suicide penalty? Suicide is well glorified in battletech, I swear I remember a IS warship or two being purposefully rammed into a clan ship to destroy it

Good luck on killing a light mech ever again if that's the case. If there wasn't a suicide penalty then once there's a chance of them dying they'll immediately rush the OpFor in an attempt to get a suicide kill. It wouldn't be the exception, it'd be the rule. It wouldn't be as bad as the Couger in MW4 loading up on High Explosives, but it would be pretty damn annoying nonetheless. Perhaps make it an all or nothing deal - if they do that then they forfeit all earnings unless their team wins.

Can they release a cockpit bowling ball item when they turn collision back on just to add some extra irony? thanks.

I miss dragon bowling 3050 .

it was so great to run through a lance of enemy mechs leaving a pile of mechs planted in the dirt. i never did earn my strike ( all 8 mechs down . ) but i did get 5 !! i wanted a badge for that so bad ^_^

on frozen city in certain choke points you could just run and re run over certain mechs over and over again.

wham !! hes down turn around look he just got back up, WHAM !! again face in the dirt snow, turn back around WHAM !! and hes down again ..

while the devs took some steps to fix this it was never enough and was a problem . dont get me wrong i love varied tactics
and ramming is a great tactic. but at its implementation before it was shut down it was clearly broken and was not fun game play .

great for laughs but not a element for a serious multiplayer game .

hopefully collision 2.0 will be alot better and we will get to see some cool dfa's but the game is better without the collision 1.0 system.

its under development, its a beta, its not that big a deal with state rewind anyway. Running in and hugging a heavy/assult mech is suicide if there are any other mechs around, or even 1 decent pilot.

Up until open beta, I kept watching streams (and reports on the forums) where people where either troll knocking there own teammates en masse, or kept chain knocking people down for "Fun" with out actually shooting at them. The bugs associated with it only made these things worst.

This^

The previous system created an unbreakable stun lock. That is by very definition an exploit. Stuns suck, unbreakable stun locks are an exploit.

Mech A knocks down Mech B
Mech B takes 4 seconds to stand up - pilot B is unable to do anything except watch the 3rd person view of standing up
Mech A hits Mech B again at the 3 second mark, knocking them down and resetting the fall down/stand up effect.
Repeat until bored, or until teammates/Mech A decide to shoot Mech B.

It was a lame, easily exploited, and abused system.

i've given up complaining about everything. its obvious they don't care and don't listen to player feedback re: what their priorities should be

i haven't logged on in a month, i'm sure they don't care about that either
